HEEEEEyyyy! I'm back from my long absence!
I'm working on judging and stuff but for now, have a contest:

Prompt: Spark
Theme: Any
Challenge (+1 point): write a poem about the season one premiere
Genre: Any
Rating: Everyone or Teen.
Length: any
Deadline: January 17
Prizes: Featured on this group
Reading with other winners

Can I please use a poem that I already wrote, because I literally have a poem series I published on here that was about each of the mlp villains?

3965729 Oh yes, I'm in for this!

3966067 the rules say it must be written for the contest,
I'm inclined to let you, but I can't really. Maybe if you re-write it i can let you enter it, but I might have to take a few points off even then.
I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to give you more then that

This is short and poorly thought out, but at least it's something.
Spark
a burning light of friendship
connecting hearts
purifying, not destroying

3966606 How much would you take off if I rewrote it and submitted?

3966894
1-3 depending on how much you rewrite it
Usually the winners only win by two or three points so you still would have a chance
the original fits the challenge pretty well but not the prompt (I can tell its not written for this contest, so I would have to take a couple points off for that too)
I would say you would be better off just ignoring the challenge and writing a different poem. You could do say the sparks of a fire, or the spark of an idea etc.

3966960 I'll see what I can do. I might right a new thing but I also might rework the original to incorporate a spark. We'll see.

My entry for Poetry Contest #16.

A Star in Darkest Night

Lost, I was
Within a shadow
Of my own creation

What we built
Between us ripe for
Pain and desecration

Was it me
In truth, or was it
Something else that bade me

Cast away
The love I’d known
Believing you’d betrayed me

Does it even
Matter now the how
And why of falling

Do you know
That every night I
Heard your heart-song calling...

Now I lay
In helpless sorrow
Fear and tears upon my face

As you smile
In sweet compassion
Offering a touch of grace

Rising up, I
See the one you taught
In hopes I could be saved

See her smile in
Simple warmth despite
The challenges she braved

What is this?
My heartbeat flutters
All my sadness falls away

Hope is blooming
That she'll find me
Worthy of that smile one day

THE SPARK:

I never thought I was special
I never thought I had worth
I never thought I had a purpose
Then I found the spark.

I always felt so little
I always felt so weak
I always felt so hopeless
Then I found the spark.

People told me I'm great
People told me I'm worthy
I never truly believed it
Then I found the spark.

A spark of life
A spark of hope
A spark of love
A spark of promise

A spark of worth
A spark of purpose
A spark of meaning
A spark of humanity

The spark can only be found
Through kindness and love
For others, near and far
For everyone on this Earth.

It can only be maintained
Through love and friendship
Through constant good deeds
Through the power of one's soul.

Once gotten it's never lost
No matter how hard life gets
No matter the beating you take
No matter the person you are.

The spark is a mark
Of one truly remarkable
Of one who finds purpose
Through easing one's pain.

The spark is a mark
Of one who truly cares
About the suffering of others
Of one who wishes to ease it.

The spark is a mark
Of one who is truly wise
To the joy and pain of life
Of one who will fight it's strife.

The spark is a mark
Of an incredible person
Who no matter what
Will be there for another.

How can one tell if one has
The spark of an incredible soul?
I shall tell you, all of you
The signs of one in a fellow man.

Does one care enough
To stay up all night
To stop a person from trying
To end their own life?

Does one care enough
To see the beauty in the world
Despite the pain and sorrow
Of the journey that is life?

Has one put a smile on a face?
Has one shown kindness of the heart?
These, my friends, are the signs
That a fellow man has the spark.

My life is richer
My life has meaning
My life has a purpose
Because I now have the spark.

3965729 Here we go:

I'd dimmed my Moon,
'til all was dark.
Hear me now,
light the spark.

My dear Twilight,
please save your land.
Unchain your heart,
walk hand in hand.

Meet the girls,
become the new of the old,
The spark has thawed,
the heart that was cold.

You brought her back,
when all had been dark.
You saved my Moon,
lit the spark.

Out of Darkness Cometh Light

Once there was no sunlight,
Darkness covered all,
For the curse of midnight
Held the world in thrall.

Blackness in the woodland,
Shadows in the town,
Once there had been farmland:
Now no crops were found.

Ponies heard the death-knell;
Felt despair and gloom:
But to six brave mares fell
Victory or doom.

All as one, they ventured
Into Everfree,
Far from home and orchard,
Still they would not flee.

As they journeyed onward,
Through the fear and dark,
Each of them looked inward,
Kindling a spark.

These were bound together
By their common foe,
Lighting up each other;
Burning never low.

Closeness like no other,
Every danger met,
Each was faced together:
Brought them closer yet.

Serpents were befriended,
Manticores made tame.
Soon it would be ended:
To the ruins they came.

Inside lurked the Nightmare
They had come to fight,
Spark ignited five's flare:
Friendship's purest light.

Heart-lit Elements burned:
Soon the day was won.
From Sun Princess they learned:
Luna's exile done.

3966609 3967508 3972118 3977380 It's a real shame that this contest never got judged. For what it's worth, of the four entries (obviously I'm not going to consider my own!) if this had been an open-voting contest, I would personally have given my vote to SongCoyote's very atmospheric entry. This is totally unofficial of course, but at least it's something.

Hey-la, Loganberry!

Thank you kindly for the vote, however unofficial! I am a great fan of Luna and her journey from corruption to redemption, and however simple it appeared in the show the moment of her return has always struck me as powerful. I'm glad my poem conveyed some of that to you.

Hopefully there will be more contests for us both to enjoy!

Light and laughter,
SongCoyote

4316762 I would probably be inclined to agree with you on that one! (And no, for once, it has nothing to do with my bias in favor of Luna.:rainbowlaugh)

But yeah, it would have been nice to see the results. Thanks for judging, however unofficial it was.:raritywink:

Thank you everyone for entering! I really enjoy all your poems, and even though I've lost interest in the fandom, I might come back here just to read your guys poems

4328920 I'm looking forward to the next contest.

4328920 Thank you very much! I'm very pleased with that result, and (being honest) also quite pleased that your official assessment agrees with my unofficial one. :rainbowlaugh:

4328920 Thank you! That was fun! Congrats to the first and second place winners!!

4328920
Thank you kindly for getting back to this, and for the official accolades

Congrats to the other winners. Let's keep playing: more contests! It really does help get my Muse enthused.

Light and laughter,
SongCoyote
