Psychology is not psychoanalysis, and not all psychology is Freudian/Jungian/etc.

Does that mean I can't add my Jacques Lacan story to the group? :moustache:

I'm not exactly sure of the current state of the professional field of psychology, but I'm quite well acquainted with the Myers-Briggs Typology Indicator (MBTI) and the extended theory of cognitive functions (i.e. Ti, Ne, Si, Fe, etc.). I recognize this isn't an empirical theory and cannot readily gain anything more than anecdotal support, and it probably shouldn't be considered a "hard" scientific theory anyway. What it is useful for, however, is encouraging personal growth through self-awareness. The types aren't supposed to be a stereotype to control you, simply an archetype for one to most closely embody. I'm not sure if this fits within the confines of the group's philosophy, but I think it may be an interesting thing to consider presenting to members or non-members who visit the page. From my experience, MBTI can help to propagate mutual understanding and respect... or it can result in type bigotry.

Something to consider, I suppose.

Have you thought about having story folders in this group? :unsuresweetie:

That we could. :pinkiehappy::moustache:

329881 Good! Then we can talk about whatever psychology-related topics of interest and improve our understanding together through discussions. :twilightsmile:

I suppose that's right, most people don't take the time to really look into a subject in any real depth, and prefer the cute and favorable ideals that things such as news broadcasts, or most entertainment broadcasts in general.

I'll admit, I know little to nothing on the subject, but I'd very much like to know more, hence me joining the group.

329872 Well, one should take caution in straightly derive meaning from a label. After all, not all coinage of terms is wholly and appropriately representative; "scientology" don't quite mean "study of science, knowledge and skills" either.

As an active researcher in the field, I feel it is quite warranted to clarify especially as most research psychologists is fighting an uphill battle against the legacy popular conceptions that all psychology equals pop psychology; a mix of obvious adages, feel-good chicken soups of the soul, dream interpretation, mother lovers, "in-deep" character analysis, and no matter what, not a science.

Umm... From the name, one can imply that Psychology is the study of the psyche, I don't really see the need to emphasize it so much, although I guess people can be a bit mislead to the meaning from what pop culture and things like that would lead you to believe.
