And that's just what we're here to find out!

Kinda feel like me and Scarecrow hashed this one out a while back and agreed on Red Hood.

1814877 It was the Punisher, I think, and this is going to be much closer due to the much closer relative skill levels and back stories :ajsmug:

1814820 James Buchanan Barnes was born in Shelbyville, Indiana in 1925 An orphan, the son of a soldier killed in training at U.S. Army Camp Lehigh in Virginia just before the United States' entry into World War II. As a result, he was unofficially adopted by the camp as a mascot. Nicknamed "Bucky", he took to wearing a uniform and becoming savvy with the ins and outs of military life, even though he was a teenager and legally too young to enter the Military.

It was at Camp Lehigh that he met and befriended Private Steven Rogers. Bucky accidentally walked in on Steve Rogers changing into his uniform, thus discovering his friend was Captain America and insisted that he join him. He underwent extensive training and was assigned to be Captain America's partner. The military justified putting a 15-year-old in harm's way by using him as a symbol to rally the youth of America.

Together, Captain America and Bucky fought Nazis both at home and abroad, as a duo and as part of the superhero team known as The Invaders.

During a battle with long time enemy Baron Zemo, both Bucky and Captain America were left frozen in the waters of the icy north. A Russian patrol submarine found Bucky's cold-preserved body missing one arm. Bucky was revived in Moscow, but suffered brain damage along with amnesia. Scientists attached a bionic arm, upgrading it as technology improved.

Programmed to be a Soviet assassin for Department X, under the code name the Winter Soldier, he was sent on covert assassinations, becoming increasingly ruthless and efficient as he killed in the name of the state. While a Soviet agent, he also had a brief relationship with The Black Widow. The Winter Soldier was kept in a cryogenic stasis when not on missions, and as a result has aged only a few years to a young adult since the closing days of World War II, making him physically in his early 20's but with a vast store of battle experience and assassination techniques.

Captain America eventually tracked down and confronted the Winter Soldier. Upon gaining control of the Cosimic Cube, Cap forces Bucky to regain his memories. Overwhelmed by guilt over his past actions, Bucky Barnes has returned to his heroic roots to atone for the countless innocents he has killed.

Having trained under Steve Rogers and others in the time leading up to World War II, Bucky is a master of hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, as well as being skilled in the use of military weapons such as firearms and grenades. He also used throwing knives on occasion and was a gifted advance scout. His time as the Winter Soldier helped to further hone his skills, making him the equal to Captain America in combat skills and is an expert assassin and spy. He is also fluent in many languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Russian, and Japanese.

Winter Soldier's left arm is a cybernetic prosthetic with superhuman strength and enhanced reaction time. The arm can function when not in contact with Barnes and can discharge bolts of electrical energy from its palm. The arm can discharge an EMP causing electronics to either shutdown or become useless. The use of Barnes' EMP is shown when Barnes used it to shutdown a Nick Fury LMD and when he attempted to use it on Iron Man. The arm has a holographic function to disguise it as a flesh and blood arm.

He often carries several conventional weapons such as knives, a Colt 1911-A1 .45 or a P08 Luger, standard sniper rifle, an M-16, and hand-grenades.

1814914No it was definitely this match up. It's in that blog you made a while back, But that aside let's get to buisness.

First thingI think needs discussing is their specialties. While Red Hood has the better training in hand to hand from Batman he wasn't trained with fire arms at all. He had to pick that up on his own I believe. Bucky was trained with guns and is VERY good with them.

One question though. Bucky doesn't have Cap's shield does he?

1814950 Winter soldier Bucky, so no shield

1814928 Jason Todd, the Red Hood

Born to the bad side of Gotham, Jason's early life was filled with nothing but violence, caused by his abusive father's relationship with Two-Face Harvey Dent and living in Gotham, the living Hell of the DCU. When his dad died at the hand of Two-face, Jason started looking into crime himself, only to be found by the Batman... while trying to steal the tires off the batmobile,

Now that takes balls!

However, after six months of training with Batman, is was discovered that, dispite all of his best intentions, Jason Todd lacked the natural skill and talent found in the first Robin, Dick Grayson, so Batman decided to teach him how to be a Sith instead and channel his anger.

However, because of this, Jason Todd was given a shorter temper, combined with his complicated issues with his father, causing him to become... kind of an impatient ass-hole. This would come to bite him majorly in the ass in the events of 'Death in the Family', when Jason went out to find his rel mother in the middle east, only to be betrayed by her to the Joker, beaten to a pulp, then blown sky high, never to be seen or heard from again...

WRONG!

Due to the events of 'Infinite Crisis', Jason Todd was brought back to life and found by Talia Al Ghul to be trained by the League of Assassins, where he once again regained his sanity and retook a new brand of training.

Over the following years, Jason Todd traveled with world, learning from the best killers, bomb makers and marksmen the globe over, killing those that had earned it from their illicit activities. It was then that he returned to Gotham City to claim his vengeance over two people: Batman and the Joker.

While his plans to get back at Batman for not killing the Joker always failed, he's never crossed the line into being a pure villain, always staying firmly as an anti-hero and never killing those who didn't deserve it, having a brief stint as both Nightwing and Batman.

Though he's finally made peace with the Bat-Family during the events of 'Death in the Family', this has not made him weak. He's the last member of a group of ancient assassin's intent on stopping the world's destruction by an unstoppable evil, has been trained by the best assassins the world over and by Batman himself, being an adept tactical fighter, detective and linguist because of it.

He's known for wearing an old set of Dick Grayson's armor, gifted to him by Starfire, wields two unbreakable bronze short swords and carries a variety of firearms, such as the AK-47, Desert Eagle heavy pistols, and a bullet proof helmet with built in HUD and option to self destruct, as well as a styled serrated combat knife, modeled after Ra's Al Ghul's own.

1815080>>1814928 Okay so who has an edge over who and in what areas?

1815095 Jason Todd's been trained by Batman, though it was cut short, he was also trained by the League of Assassin's and the All Caste, developing his swordsmanship training and traveling all over the world in a very similar extent to Batman himself.

His swords are only breakable due to very specific circumstances, like a demon, which would be an effective counter against Bucky Barnes, though the robot arm would even the odds.

Bucky Barnes has experience, though he was frozen quickly after each mission.

I say it's even. Bucky has experience, but Jason has better training

1815160 No sir we are going to find a winner. This is a Death Battle and BY FAUST SOMONE IS GOING TO DIE!!!

1815185 I'm gonna wait to finish this for tomorrow for the others.

But hey, food for thought: what is they were combined into...

THE WINTER HOOD!!

1815310 Robot arm, white camo helmet, maybe a big bloody eagle on his chest...

awesome :yay:

1815316 I would love to see some fan art of this.

1815185 1815160 Bucky has been confirmed as Cap's equal in terms of fighting prowess. Since Cap and Bats are roughly equals as well. Don't take my word for it, here's proof

So with that in mind, Jason AND Bucky are roughly equal in hand-to-hand. The deciding factor is how well each of them wield their weapons.

Again, I would have to give the edge to Bucky. Unlike Jason, Bucky has has MILITARY training in the use of fire-arms and tactics. Also his arm has a few surprises Jason would not be prepared for, such as the electric shocks. Might not kill him, but if Bucky plays it smart and keeps that as a surprise, then it would be enough to catch Jason off guard and give him a few close range bullets to the chest.

And so Bucky would most likely come out the victor

1816699 Ah, but Jason is a Dick Grayson class acrobat, meaning that he could evade nearly as well as Batman. He might not be a soldier, but he has been trained the world over by the best assassin's out there. He's also got an exploding helmet.

I seriously doubt that Bucky would see an exploding helmet coming

I think it all comes down to terrain and where they're fighting. Jason would be almost undoubtedly take the match in a city setting, like New York or Gotham, where Jason's fighting style and upbringing would be a huge advantage.

Where's Bucky fight best?

1816720 Fair enough, but Bucky has also fought highly agile opponents such as Batroc the Leaper

Who I might add is an Olympic-level weightlifter and has extraordinary agility and reflexes. His leg muscles are particularly well developed enabling him to leap great distances equal to an Olympic athlete. He is an expert hand-to-hand combatant and specializes in savate (French-style kickboxing).

That being said, Bucky has more then enough experience against opponents who are skilled at evasion.

Also, going back to his Military training, Bucky is at home fighting anywhere. Be it wilderness or in a more urban setting.

1816731 Alright, so terrain goes to Bucky and skill is a tie.

Lets now talk about equipment:

Jason generally packs two pistols on his person at all times, a heavily serrated combat knife, twin bronze short swords that are unbreakable, bat-family body armor with wings that pop out of the arms and are modded for gliding, the 'Red Hood' helmet, with the standard HUD interface system with the option of detonation and a fair assortment of field gear, including grenades and tasers.

Standard equipment only, not time for prep, what's Bucky's standard arsenal consist of?

1816743 Bucky often carries several conventional weapons such as knives, a Colt 1911-A1 .45 or a P08 Luger, standard sniper rifle, an M-16, and hand-grenades. His robotic arm also has superhuman strength and enhanced reaction time.

1816764 Standard Kevlar. Also that EMP device in his arm would make Jason's helmet next to useless aside from it being a standard brain-bucket. :ajsmug:

1816767 Dude...

Jason doesn't blow up his helmet by pressing a button

He blows it up by SHOOTING it in the right spot :rainbowlaugh:

1816772 I'm well aware, but the EMP makes the HUD useless. :ajbemused:

1816776 Jason's got standard bat-family armor, though, which is cusually better than 'standard kevlar'

I'd say equipment goes to Jason. Jason in and of himself is a wild card the way he fights, he IS the best marksman of the Bat-family, after all, and he's equipped to handle any situation at medium or close range and has better armor and a HUD.

Bucky, while having top of the line training, doesn't have as many 'tricks' of his robot arm, I think. His armor isn't as good and while he may carry standard longer range equipment, the fight WILL inevitably go into close quarters combat, which will be much harder to decide, obviously.

In short, it goes to Jason because Bucky's equipment is more standard than Jason's more high quality arsenal.

1816807 Fair enough.Though you're forgetting that Bucky has far more battle experience. He fought in a war, something Jason hasn't done. A WORLD WAR!! He's also had a lot of time to develop strategies on when and how to use his robotic arm in a fight. It may not have as many tricks, but with Bucky behind it then it's certainly enough of a threat.

Also you're forgetting that despite the better armor, Jason is still going to get hit by a fist made of metal which is going to hurt no matter what. He's gonna be punched into a few walls through this, which is going to take it's tole.

1816847

Also you're forgetting that despite the better armor, Jason is still going to get hit by a fist made of metal which is going to hurt no matter what. He's gonna be punched into a few walls through this, which is going to take it's tole.

Oh yeah, undoubtedly on that. In fact, the robot arm will probably be a deciding factor in the fight as everything will come down to whether Jason can keep himself from taking that many hits, though his bronze swords CAN counter the robot arm to a certain degree, them being generally unbreakable and all which while Jason can't hold off the strength of the arm, he can use them to deflect the blows as well as he can.

1816875 There's also the fact Bucky's arm has faster reaction times compared to his other limbs. He can block and hit faster with it, which may be too much for Jason to defend against in a head-to-head fight. Also a head-to-head fight leaves Jason open to getting shocked too.

1816916 How durable is the arm? I know it's bullet proof, but how much punishment can it take before getting jacked up? :duck:

1816922 It's never been stated exactly what it's made of, but I doubt knives could do much damage. :applejackunsure:

1816935 What about grenades or exploding helmets?

That's probably exactly what Jason's going to do after getting EMPed but Bucky, then Bucky will raise his arm to defend against it, which will be another deciding factor

1816941 The most it's ever been really damaged was when he was attacked by the Asgardian powered Sin, daughter of Red Skull

1816959 So it probably won't damage it to much, then. It would still leave the parts Bucky didn't protect at least kind of hurting, not to mention the explosion would be an excellent distraction to set up a kill strike. :yay:

1816969 The minute the helmet comes off Bucky would know something was up. Why take off armor in the middle of a fight. He might not know WHAT it is, but he'd definitely get some distance between himself and the helmet if he could.

1817019>>1815339 Alright, so here's what we got:

Skill:

Training: Jason; due to his traveling around the world to the extent of Batman, while also being trained by Batman and having an analytical and tactical mind because of it.

Experience: This goes to Bucky due to the fact that he's been active for much, MUCH longer than Jason

Skill goes to: Tie, being trained by Batman is something of a super power itself, but Bucky is nearly as a good a fighter as Captain America. Jason, who, in turn, is nearly as good as Batman.

Ranged combat:

Long Range: Bucky, due to the fact that he carries a more varied medium to long range arsenal than Jason, who probably as skilled, but just doesn't carry as many weapons on him without prep.

Short Range: Jason, better quality, custom made equipment, made affordable by ripping off and killing drug lords.

Ranged combat: Close, but it goes to Bucky for having more versatility and equipment on his person at any given time.

Up close and personal:

Equipment and Armor: This goes to Jason. His armor is an old suit once used by Nightwing, made from similar/same material as Batman, while Bucky uses standard Kevlar. Not only that, but Jason has more toys hidden away, from the mundane, like knives and grenades, to tools actually built in his armor, like arm blades.

Close Range combat: Tie: Jason has the high quality training and some experience, while Bucky has much more experience than high quality training.

Unique Equipment:

Jason possesses a bullet proof helmet with standard night vision and HUD systems which, when shot or activated in the right spot, can be detonated with the force of a grenade or two. He also uses twin short swords made out of an enchanted, unbreakable bronze who's effectiveness can be increased by using his own blood to power them up.

Bucky, on the other hand, possesses a bionic arm, allowing him a certain degree of super strength, faster reflexes and durability with said arm capable of electric shocks and EMP bursts.

1817095 Location: New York's Central Park.

1815310>>1818320

Winter Soldier stands there in central park within New York City, the Red Hood jumps out of a tree and draws his dual pistols.

FIGHT!

The Winter solider takes out his M-16 with one hand, blocking a small flurry of bullets with his bionic arm, then opens up fire on the assassin, causing him to scatter.

Now alert, Wilter soldier takes a defensive position against tree, taking time to ensure all of this equipment is working right.

The Red Hood begins to open fire once more an undisclosed location, the Winter Soldier now on the defense and on the run, bullets pinging off his arm and the trees around him.

A twig breaks, the Winter Soldier spinning around rapidly to open fire on his attacker, the flurry of pistols now stopped by another.

The Winter Soldier takes time to reload, the darkness filling the air and the Red Hoods escapes further, using his training to his advantage.

The Red Hood switches to night vision, getting a good look at the man with the robot arm. Stealth fully, he draws his knife and chooses to engage the Winter Soldier up close.

The Winter soldier's ears perk up as he turns around, blocking the knife strike with his arm, then drawing his own and going for a kill.

The Red Hood dodges, though, cutting the strap on the Winter Soldier's sniper rifle and using a quickly roll, then opens fire, the high velocity rounds uselessly pinging off of his arm as he grabs it with his left and smashes it with his right.

The both draw their knives once more and circle each other for a few seconds before moving in.

They trade and dodge and block blows, the Red Hood barely able to move past and avoid the robotic arm. He draws his arm blades, attempting to heavily slash the Winter soldiers armor. He lands a hit, but the armor, though it's taken a heavy his, absorbs the impact.

The Winter Soldier grabs the Red Hoods blade arm, crippling the blades easy and breaking one of his bones as the Red Hood tries to pierce him in the face, his arm barely being stopped by Soldier's.

The Winter Soldier reaches for the Red Hood's helmet, causing an EMP burst and the Red Hood to respond by several head butts in quick succession. Now stunned, Winter Soldier lets go and draws another knife, the Red Hood still holding his. The block and parry, but a quick robot elbow stuns the Red Hood fast and hard, followed up by an open palm strike to the chest, sending him flying into and breaking a water fountain.

Now out of sight, the Winter Soldier proceeds forth, drawing his own pistol and holding it firmly, now fully expecting something novel from his enemy. He walks forward to see a man coughing up blood in a domino mask a few yards away, smiling as he looks up the man about to put a bullet in him.

His teeth crimson, he lifts his gun and fires at his helmet, laying next to the soldier. Thinking quickly, the soldier kicks the helmet before it's fired at, minimizing damage but tearing his armor to pieces, as well as forcing him back several meters.

His ears ringing and his world shaking, he sees his adversary getting up and drawing two bronze swords from his boots. The Winter soldier meets this by drawing two more knives himself.

The run at each other, the Red Hood cutting himself with his swords and causing them to glow. the winter Soldier goes at him with a fast strike from his arm, but the Red Hood darts to the opposite side, cutting up his other arm.

He swings again with his robotic arm, but misses as the Red Hood stays on the Winter Soldier's other side and back, cutting him at his knees and then back, then his robot arm clean off, finally putting both swords through Bucky Barnes chest.

WINNER: JASON 'THE RED HOOD' TODD

In a very close match up, Jason Todd was just barely able to move ahead of Bucky Barnes and keep him off his toes. While Bucky is a highly trained assassin, he is military first and foremost and as such, was not expecting a heavily armored ninja with a penchant for dual wielding and back flips and stealth to be able to move past his attacks like that. Though Jason Todd will be hurting badly in the morning, the fact remains that if given Bucky's robot arm, and if Bucky was given Jason's equipment, the fight very much could have been reversed.

1818791 Wow.................. :rainbowderp: I knew you could do a good fight, but.................. Man that was perfect!!!!! :pinkiehappy:

1819301 much appreciated, though truth be told I was almost afraid I gave Bucky the short end of the stick. Glad to see I did right by him.

I did mean it, though. Jason and Bucky are very much counter parts to one another and, while they do have similar back stories and skill sets, it was in the end the arsenal that mattered. Jason Todd was faster, sure, but he was much more of a wild card with his equipment.

Wow.................. :rainbowderp: I knew you could do a good fight, but.................. Man that was perfect!!!!! :pinkiehappy:

How did you know? :duck:

1819358 Yep. I mean Bucky is the reason other Marvel characters don't have kid sidekicks. Well aside from the fact that it would take a mentally unstable person to do that to a kid unless they were ordered to, which Steve was.

Lucky guess :pinkiecrazy:

1819373 seriously, though, how did you know I'd do a good fight? :rainbowhuh:

1819383 I skimmed through some of your stories. :applejackunsure:

1819411 so you know how awesome I am with imagery? Killer :rainbowlaugh:

btw, that fight was typed up in like 15 minutes. If I wanted to make it a page or more, I could have.

You should also read my Luna/Revan crossover. There's going to be plenty of awesome by the end of it. :rainbowdetermined2:

1819431>>1819571 so how come avenging hobbits never showed up. He was mentioned in the beginning.

1821866 He read it, but I think he didn't get involved because me and Lunar had it totally covered, not to mention the fact that both fighters were so equal that the match went down to equipment. :moustache:
