So, if you hadn’t heard, Pink Floyd came out with a new album yesterday, The Endless River. It is technically new music, made up of unused songs from The Division Bell sessions that Gilmour and Mason went back and finished up. Most importantly, it features Wright’s keyboards that he had recorded before his death, so he is still included on the album in a way.

That said, all but one track, of its eighteen are instrumental, and Waters was not involved at all, which would've been nice, but whatever. It is Gilmour-led Floyd, and if you don’t like that, or The Division Bell, then you might not like this, especially if you don’t like the fact it’s mostly instrumental.

I really do like the album, I think it’s great. I can hear some elements of their older stuff in a few songs, and I really like that. I wish they did do something a bit more, and maybe had some longer songs, as most are all under two minutes, but we have to live with what is now probably most definitely the last album of new material from Pink Floyd.

Thoughts, from those of you that have heard it?

I'm more of a fan of the Waters-driven era. But I might purchase this on vinyl

Not my favourite Pink Floyd era, but you know what, even crappy Pink Floyd is leagues better than the overwhelming majority of what's out there.

Haven't bought the album yet (I know, shame on me), but it seems that people like it. I really liked The Division Bell, so I don't doubt that I'll also enjoy The Endless River.

And I like the Waters-era better myself as well. I don't really know of anyone that prefers The Division Bell and A Momentary Lapse of Reason over any of the albums before. I'm sure there are some who do, but I like The Wall, Wish You Were Here, and all the others much more.

That said, having Waters on Endless River would've been nice, but if he took it and made it into a big political protest album, then that wouldn't have been good either. I love his stuff and all, but he's been pushing his own views a lot, technically since The Wall, but very much since The Final Cut.

Is there really that much of it? I don't recall anything particularly problematic apart from all the patently bullshit drama around his stance on Israeli policies.
