You know, I've always wondered, what do you fellow Floydians think is the most OVERRATED Pink Floyd album i.e. the album people go on and on about yet, no matter how hard you try, it just doesn't click with you...

For me it's Meddle.

Sure Echoes is great, but the rest of the album (with the exception of One of These Days) is mostly filler.

But I'd love to hear what you guys think are the most overrated.

Animals. Also, Atom Heart Mother and The Division Bell. Yeah, none of those were as fantastic as The Wall, TDSOFM, and Wish You Were Here.

729630 Dark Side of the Moon, for sure.

729633 Well, I for one liked Animals, but I totally understand why people who don't like it, don't like it. It's extremely political and heady, and the music isn't quite as good as say, Wish You Were Here or The Dark Side of the Moon, but it works for me. But I had to hear it about three times before I started to like it.

As for The Division Bell, it is overrated, but certainly better then A Momentary Lapse of Reason, which is barely a Pink Floyd album at all, and more of a David Gilmour solo work.

Atom Heart Mother I liked because it's a very relaxed and laid back album. For example I find If to be beautiful. And maybe it's because I used to hear A LOT of classical music, I was totally okay with the sounds of Atom Heart Mother the suite.

729630 Meddle, huh? Never thought I'd hear that. Meddle is pretty good, but I never hear anyone talking about it. Ever.

729633 I half agree. Animals is overrated, for sure. AHM is actually kind of overlooked, but "If" is overrated. I love The Division Bell, though. Your last statement is right, however; those three albums are the best.

729661 Can't tell if sarcastic or not, but I agree.

729684 oh believe me people go on about as being the prelude to Dark Side and all. If by that you mean Echoes then, okay, fine, but if you mean the album as a whole, then that's when I have to say no.

729684 Nope. It's the one I like the least, even though it's great. SOOO over-rated, Wish You Were Here is far better.

729692 Say no to what? And technically, Obscured by Clouds is the prequel to DSOTM. :trollestia:

Actually, the only song I can't stand off Meddle is "Seamus." Urgh... I mean, I like blues-y music and all, but it's SO dull and it makes me want to want to burn my eardrums. The other, middle three are decent. I understand how people would see "Echoes" and maybe "One of These Days" as foreshadowing DSOTM, but the other four? Not so much...

EDIT: 729695 I completely agree with that statement, though it's not my least favorite. *cough*Ummagumma*cough*

I guess it's always been The Division Bell for me. Heard a lot of great things about it and it never really clicked.

729710 EXACTLY.

One of These Days and Echoes are the absolute best songs on there. Everything else is filler.

729711 I guess the reason people liked that one was because they at least tried to sound like Pink Floyd. Unlike Momentary Lapse of Reason

729698 Your opinion.

729724
We don't bring up that album in polite conversation around these parts.

729695
I don't agree Dark Side is their worst, but you, sir, are quite correct about Wish You Were Here.

729813 The Wall is still the greatest.

729828
Eh, I think that can be argued. I like it a lot, but some of the songs around the middle kind of bog down. I still love it a lot, though. Good choice.

729835 What the hell

The middle is the best

From "Another Brick in the Wall part 3" to "In the Flesh" is the best.

729835 it is a good album, but it's true that some of the songs are somewhat dull. But it's still such an overall solid project that the album still takes top marks.

729841
I just never really got into the middle. For me, it really picks up around "Vera" but doesn't quite get back going until "In the Flesh". But hey, different strokes.

729845
Oh, for sure. I never doubted that The Wall isn't one of their best, even if I don't believe it to be Floyd's absolute best.

729845 The movie was phenomenal too.

729853 I love "In the Flesh" so hard though. And "Hey you". Oh my god, "Hey You" is so beautiful.

729853 Really? What about Comfortably Numb?

Maybe it's just because that was the first song from there I heard.

729866
"Hey You" is pretty damn good, for sure. Haunting, too, which really adds to that beauty.

I don't know, I completely loathe The Wall, it's story, movie and everything it stands for. Like, what the hell possessed them to abandon their trademark sound (like in Ummagumma) and even think about putting something out that was so terrible?! Give me 'The Narrow Way, Pt. 2' any day over that tripe in The Wall! Look at 'Goodbye Cruel World' for instance: Are they trying to promote suicide or something? Absolute worst decision ever made by the band. I don't understand why it's achieved so much acclaim.

Coughsarcasmcough

729866 I haven't actually had a chance to see it yet.

I actually only got into Pink Floyd relatively recently, so there's still some gaps that need to be filled in.

729876
I dunno, I like Comfortably Numb a lot but I think it gets more hype than it deserves. Great song, but to me it's far from the best on the album. Of course, it was also the song from the album I heard so maybe I wore it out.

729884 That is true.

Run Like Hell and Waiting for the Worms have really climbed up the latter in my opinion. Along with Hey You, The Trial and Another Brick in the Wall Part II

729889
Oh god, The Trial and Vera are my favorite songs on the whole album. They're just...yes.

729893 And the animation for The Trial? INSANELY AWESOME!

Totally worth it to hear Roger go on in like 5 different voices. It's just so awesomely over the top.

729889 Another Brick in the Wall part 3

I know this is for overrated albums, but I personally think The Final Cut is underrated. And, A Momentary Lapse of Reason isn't bad; I actually enjoy listening to it a lot.

730055 I feel The Final Cut is underrated, yes.

And really, A Momentary Lapse of Reason isn't THAT bad, since it does have Learning to Fly and Sorrow (which is amazing)
