//------------------------------// // Rainbow's Backstory // Story: One Can't Escape Their Own Past // by Hazel_Hester777 //------------------------------// “Go get the ball, Rainbow!” Thunderous Storm called to his daughter. He was a stallion with a cyan coat, and green mane and tail. His wife, Wild Wind watched as her husband and daughter played with the red-yellow striped ball. She had a rainbow mane and red coat. Their daughter Rainbow Dash, a filly with a cyan coat and rainbow mane, ran to catch the ball. That was all in the filly’s mind; to catch the ball. She couldn’t help but go after it like a dog. She was so caught up in catching the ball that she didn’t notice that was almost ran into a bush. She stopped herself by using her hooves to step into the ground. As she breathed a sigh of relief, the ball hit her on her head. “Rainbow Dash!” Thunderous cried out, running to the filly, Wild right behind him. Wild Wind rubbed her daughter’s head in worry. “Are you okay, my little eagle?” “I’m fine, mom. Atleast I caught the ball” Their thoughts were interrupted when they heard a noise coming from the bushes. It sounded like a soft groan. They decided that it may be shot to take a look. What they found was both alarming and pitiful. It was a young filly! She had pink mane and tail, her body was yellow. Her little body was badly bruised and slightly burned; they could hear her breathing heavily. Who was this filly? Where did she come from? How did she get there? Who did this to make her look this hurt? It was then that they realized that the bush she was in was right beside a burned down building. They checked her for a closer look. She was definitely young; like being the age of Rainbow Dash, a teenager. They started to have such random guesses about how such this filly got here in this state. Perhaps she was in the building when it burned down and she escaped but passed out? Or perhaps the filly was dared to enter the building and it caught fire? Maybe the filly had a rough life and decided to end it by running into the building while it was burning and, at the last minute, changed its mind and dove out badly injured? “Mommy” Rainbow began. “The filly looks hurt, can we?” Wild Wind couldn’t help but feel pity from her own daughter’s words. She could tell Rainbow Dash didn’t want that the filly be left there to die. She looked to her husband, a begging look in her eyes. Thunderous Storm didn’t have any choice but to agree. It was a crazy idea, but they’d rather have it than leaving her all alone as she slowly dies. Wild and Thunderous carefully scooped up the sleeping filly, careful to not wake her from her sleep. They placed her on Thunderous’ back. “Okay, Dashie” Wild said. “She’s coming with us” “Yay!” Rainbow cheered happily. “Hopefully, we can find her parents” ________________________________________ “Poison Rose, no!” “Don’t worry, little sis. I’ll always be here, in your heart” “NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” The filly woke up from fear and pain, breathing heavily. She felt completely afraid for the fate of her sister, and family. She was the last of her line, bearing both the last hope of her family line and survivor’s guilt. She knew it would be a tough road, but she has to live it. Her family would’ve wanted that. When she realized she escaped the burning building, a lab, she also had to find a way to heal from the burns. Her thoughts were interrupted, however, when she noticed where she was. She felt the comfy padding beneath her; a warm blanket wrapped her body, a pillow where she rested her head. It didn’t take her long enough to realize she was in a bed. Where was she and why was she in bed? She tried to sit up straight, but then her badly burnt body wouldn’t allow it. She then realized that her burns were being covered by bandages. Whoever may have found her might have patched her up. “Is everything okay?” a voice called out. That feminine voice slightly startled the filly. She hid under the blanket with only her eyes peeping out, shaking from fear. She could hear the sound of hoofsteps thumping against cloud. She felt a bit of calm but also fear when she saw a Pegasus mare enter the room. Her face was full of concern, quite pitiful that she may have scared the young filly. The mare slowly approached the little one, trying her best not to fully alarm her. Once she was next to the filly, she tried a simple tactic to show she’s no threat. She reached out her hoof and pet the filly. “Shh, it’s okay” The little filly was still slightly scared, but the hoof gave her a sense that maybe the mare meant her no harm. She began to relax now. Even beginning to nuzzle the hoof as a response. “There we go, come on out, little one. There’s nothing to be afraid of” The filly began to loosen up; she showed her face by letting the blanket down. The mare smiled to see that there has been progress with the filly. She then checked the little one’s front hooves for the burns. She gave a slight touch on one bandaged area, making the filly slightly hiss in pain. “Oh you poor little thing. It must’ve been awful, hasn’t it?” The filly suddenly found herself pulled in for a hug, the mare caressing her mane. She began to feel even calmer, knowing that the mare was concerned for her own well-being. “Mommy, is she awake now?” a young voice called out. The little filly and mare looked to the doorway as a cyan filly peeked her head out. She smiled and approached the two. “Hello there!” the cyan one greeted. “I’m Rainbow Dash, the one who found you! And that’s my mother!” “My name’s Wild Wind, but you may call me Wild or Wind” “What’s your name?” The filly began to show signs of fear again. What’s her name? Did she even have one? All she remembered was that her family is dead, she’s been badly hurt, and now she’s in a conversation with them. She tried to go deep into her memories, and pulled out her name. “My name’s Fluttershy” she whispered. “Fluttershy? That’s a cute name” Wild commented. “What about family?” a male voice called out, making Fluttershy hide once again. “Fluttershy, dear, it’s alright. This is my husband, Thunderous Storm” “Oh! I’m sorry! Did I scare you?” he asked. Fluttershy slowly peeped out again. “I-I’m f-f-fine” she stuttered. “That’s a relief. But tell us, dear. Who’s your mommy? Maybe if you tell us, we can help you find her” “M-m-m-my…mommy?” Fluttershy stuttered out again. “Why yes, dear. Don’t you know your mom’s name? Or your dad’s? Or, if you have a brother or sister?” Fluttershy tried to think. But she had a hard time just remembering any of it. She only got a fragment that barely gave her a clue about her past. She tried harder, but all she got was a stinging pain in her head. She screamed from how painful it felt. It was like something sharp was piercing her head. The three who were with her felt worried about what’s happening to her. “Fluttershy, are you okay?” Wild asked a tone of fear and worry in her voice. She approached the Pegasus filly, trying to help ease her pain. She then noticed the filly was holding her head. “Rainbow, can you go get the icepack?” “Yes, mom!” Rainbow replied, flying out to find the item in the fridge. ________________________________________ “So, what you’re telling us is that…” Thunderous began. Fluttershy nodded, keeping the icepack on her forehead. “I seem to have lost my memories and all I remember is that my family is dead, my name is Fluttershy, and I ran out of a burning building” “I guess that explains who fearful you tend to get, huh?” Fluttershy nodded. “You poor thing, an orphan with almost no memory of who she is or where she came from” Wild said. Fluttershy nodded again sadly. She then began to hide her face underneath the blanket, trying her best to not sob too loud. Thunderous, Wild, and Rainbow felt sorry more than ever for the filly. She didn’t deserve this; nopony would. They thought that if they got to know her family, she may be able to remember from them. But to hear that they were gone and that she was the last of her line alive, it didn’t seem fair at all. First, her entire family dies. Then, she loses her memory. Now, she only barely got out of being burnt to a crisp! They had no idea what to do with her now. This decision was even more difficult since she seems to be afraid of what’s not familiar to her. They couldn’t decide what to do, until one of them spoke up. It was Rainbow Dash. “Mommy, Daddy, you remember how I always wondered what it would be like to have a little sister?” Fluttershy suddenly began to calm her sobbing; Rainbow’s parents were surprised with what their own daughter said. Was she asking what they think she was asking? “Rainbow Dash, are saying…” Thunderous asked. His daughter only nodded. “Yes, I guess I want her to stay here” Thunderous looked towards Wind, then back to Rainbow. His own daughter’s puppy eyes were beginning to get to him. “What about you, Fluttershy? Would you like to stay with us?” The yellow filly peeped out of the blanket. She knew it wouldn’t feel the same; but then again, it would probably be better. Especially since whatever she had to remind her of her past was gone. “Well, if it isn’t a bother” “Yippee!” Rainbow cried as she hugged her new little sister, careful to not be too tight that it would hurt her. “Okay, you two” Wild began. “Tomorrow, mom and dad are going to sign an Adoption Paper to seal that we have taken Fluttershy into our care” “Sounds great, mommy!” Rainbow cried out. “Thank you, Miss Wild Wind” Fluttershy replied. “No need to call me that, dear. Mom will do” “And you can call me dad” “And you call me your big sister!” Fluttershy suddenly found herself pulled in for another hug. She felt a bit awkward at first, but she returned the hug with her new sister. Afterall, this may be what her own sister would have wanted. ________________________________________ Later that night… Rainbow Dash kept tossing and turning in her bed. She tried, but couldn’t even fall asleep; something was bugging her. Not being able to shake off that feeling, she went down for a glass of warm milk. Having taken one, she began to climb back to her room when she heard something from Fluttershy’s room. She wanted to see what was wrong, so she opened the door. There, on the extra bed, was little Fluttershy. She covered herself underneath the blanket was shivering with fear. Rainbow Dash slowly approached her. “Fluttershy, are you alright?” The little filly slowly peeped her eyes out, feeling quite relieved when she saw who it was. “Rainbow Dash?” “Hey, now. What’s wrong?” “N-n-nothing” “Oh, come on, you can tell me” “I just had a bad dream” “Oh poor you” Rainbow replied. With one smooth move, she climbed into the bed with Fluttershy. “Rainbow?” She then found herself hugged again by her new adopted sister. “Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, I won’t let the monsters get you. Now get some rest, little sis” Fluttershy felt a bit comfortable now. She decided that she may feel safer here now. She began to calm down, feeling secure, as she slowly fell asleep in her new elder sister’s hooves.
