The Little White Unicorn

Prologue: “Wake Up...”

"Wake up...Please...Wake up...", A voice echoed to him in his unconscious mind. A voice that he held dear, a voice he was used to hearing and longed for...but didn't know who it was.

"...We need you...We all need you...", his vision adjusted to a ray of sun gently gleaming upon him through the curtains as he opened his eyes. He awoke to find himself resting in what appeared to be a giant satin pillow-like bed colored purple and gold centered in the room. He looked to see the room around him, the style of it was just as beautiful as the bed and shared a similar color scheme. With its very own lit fireplace and decorated with potted plants and a tapestry of the cosmos, it looked not a day older and yet there was still a presence of neglect that overcame him as though nopony has been in here in decades. He crawled out of bed to find a dresser beside him. In it’s reflection, he saw a face that he could not recognize.

“A little white unicorn”, He thought as he gazed upon himself. He turned his head over to the side of the room behind the satin pillow-like bed and saw a door with swirls that gracefully decorated it like a rather peculiar painting. Behind it he was greeted with a hallway that was far too dark to find his way through. He picked out the longest, most slender spare log that he could find alongside the fireplace, wrapped the fabric that covered the top of the dresser around one end of it, and lit that end in the fire in hopes that it would make a good enough torch. Now with this torch that he prayed for to last long enough, he took a deep breath and ventured through the dark hallway. The first minute seemed fine, the appearance of the hallway seemed just as normal as the room he awoke in, but as he ventured further, things began to look older and older by the minutes worth of his travel. The wallpaper began to look more and more torn and worn out, the floor and every bit of decor that was on it looked dustier, complete with cobwebs in almost every corner. But despite all of this, the little white unicorn still found the courage to continue his journey until he came across a large open doorway to his left.

Through the doorway, he saw a cracked balcony, weakened and by time and littered with dead leaves, but despite all of this it was still sturdy enough to withstand his weight. What he saw from beyond it gave him a mixture of both fear and confusion. A ruined city below with buildings and homes either torn down or burnt as far as his eyes could see along with darkened clouds above to match the distance.

“What happened?...Where am I?...Who am I??”, such questions polluted his mind as he registered the aftermath of who or whatever did this from below. After a minute or two of looking at all the destruction, he turned around to find his way out of the castle. The thought of how lucky he was that the torch he made was still burning was the only thought that escaped into his mind amongst the many questions he had on what was going on. He found his way down to find a large spacious room with most of the walls being made out of broken windows and shattered stained glass windows. Shards of colorful glass covered the floor all across the room, yet the little white unicorn was still able to enter it just fine. Upon entering he sees destroyed tables, a red carpet that formed a giant “T” across the cracked and ruined tiled floors, a stage at one end of the room and a destroyed statue of what looked like an porcelain alicorn on the other.

“A ballroom?”, he thought to himself as he ventured across the spacious room. He walked into two giant doors made of gold with markings similar to the exit of the room that he awoke in. With as much might as he could, he managed to get one of the doors open wide enough for him to pass through, and finally found an exit to the front of the castle in the very next room.
