"Tia, how do you make the moon and so many stars appear?"
"Well before you were born Equestria was in total darkness, sometimes the light from the stars would allow them to see just not very much. So when I found it I trained with a powerful wizard named Starswirl the Bearded who helped me gain control of the stars, the moon, and now the sun."
"Will I ever be able to control the stars like you do?"
Celestia smiled down at Luna, "Of course you will and maybe someday you will be able to control the moon." Celestia could see that Luna was obviously falling asleep and tried not to disturb her as she got up. As Celestia walked out from underneath the tree she smiled at the thought "Luna, princess of the night".
Luna woke up to the sound of birds chirping and noisy construction as the sun shone through the tree above her. As Luna stood up she could see her sister working with some other ponies on a building while other were holding up blueprints with their magic. As luna galloped over to her sister a pony stepped into the way, "Celestia has informed me to tell you that you are not allowed in the construction area while there are workers here."
"Well, I'm a princess so I command you to allow me through."
"Luna! How many times have I told you that you can't treat others like you are above them."
"But I.." Luna was cut off by Celestia holding up a hoof and walking back to the construction area. Luna's eyes started to bulge as she turned around and galloped off in the opposite direction. After a while of running, she soon realized that she was in the middle of a gloomy forest. "Where am I," she asked herself as scanned the surrounding area. As she slowly walked through tall grass and bushes full of thorns with berries she soon had to create her own light to be able to see where she was going. The more she walked into the forest the more that she felt that she was being watched, "Hello, is there any pony out there?"
Not expecting an answer she turned around and began to keep walking but was stopped in her tracks by a voice from behind, "I am here but you should not be little pony."
Luna began to shiver a tiny bit in fear, "W-w-why shouldn't I?"
"There are monsters following you, other than me of course."
"Are y-you a monster?"
"Of sorts yes I am."
"W-what do you look like?"
"I can tell you this, I won't hurt you but the others aren't as pleasant as me so you're going to have to do something for me."
"And what is that," Luna said with a gulp.
"Run." Luna didn't hesitate to start galloping off deeper into the forest as sounds in the bushes behind followed her.
"Tia helps me," Luna shouted as she dodge and weaved through trees and bushes. Luna was about to shout again but was cut off by the lack of ground beneath her hooves. Luna took quick breaths as she fell through the air and into a small pond. She quickly got up the edge of the water as she stared up in fear from what was chasing her. She could only stare at the beast as it landed in the water a few meters in front of her, it was made of wood and sticks while its eyes glowed a bright green. Luna backed up into a tree as the beast slowly approached her. "Tia," she whispered as it jumped at her. After a few seconds of cringing in fear Luna opened her eyes to a jumble of sticks floating in front of her grasped in a field of blue magic.
"Are you alright filly?"
Luna looked up at the pony in awe, "Um yes uh w-who are you?"
"I do believe that for your age you shouldn't be talking to strangers."
"But you saved me and you talked first."
"Well if you want to keep having this conversation you can either tell me your name or I can take you back to Celestia."
"How do you know that she is my sister?!"
"I know a lot and I even know your name....Luna"
Luna jumped up in excitement, "How do you know my name?!"
"Well it's pretty simple for me I just assumed that Celestia is your sister because of how lost you got and how no pony came to find you. Honestly, the only reason that I trained her to control the sun moon and stars is because she was the only one powerful enough to do it."
Luna sat back down on the ground, "Yeah she hardly even pays any attention to me anymore and the only time she does is when she raises the moon."
"I'm sure if you train that some day you could control the night and day as your sister does. If you truly seek power then I must ready a challenge to see if you are even worthy but seeming that you ran away from your fear instead of facing it I don't know if you would be up to the challenge."
"What do you mean that I ran away from my fears?"
The pony smiled, "I am Star Swirl the Bearded and I created this forest for your sister. It is designed to draw out your darkest fears and it manifests them into a creature. The fear creature that I destroyed, your fear creature, it told me that you fear your sister."
"That's not true, I love Tia and she loves me."
"My magic doesn't fail I know that you are scared of her leaving you and I would even say that you fear her superiority, she could take away anything she wants, she could take your magic and wings."
"Don't tell Tia."
"I won't but if you want your fear to leave then you must complete my challenge."
"When?"
"Tomorrow go to the rock shaped like a pair of wings, it's just southeast of this forest."
"Um, so how do I get home?"
"I will take you." Suddenly the forest grew brighter, so bright that Luna soon closed her eyes to shield them from the light. When she opened them she was on the edge of the forest right where she had wondered in. When she turned around she saw the wizard return into the forest.
Luna looked up at the rock and gulped, "How am I suppose to climb this?"
"You don't need to climb."
Luna turned around to see Star Swirl the Bearded on top of a rock the size of herself, "So how do you or I make the creature appear?"
"I will summon it, are you ready?'' Luna held up a small dagger in her mouth that she pulled out of a small sheath that was attached underneath her wings and nodded. The magic surrounded a large rock behind Luna as it formed into a two-legged rock monster.
"Dis isn't da monster fom yesterday," Luna managed to say with the dagger still in her mouth.
"Of course not but you planned and going around your fear by killing it, to defeat it you must face it."
Luna looked up at the monster as its arm turned into a hoof and leg. It came down to the size of Celestia as its eyes turned white letting in an arc of pink. Luna dropped the dagger as she stared at the monster that had now become her sister. "Tia?"
The eyes began to emit purple smoke from each eye as the pink grew darker to red. "I do not love you sister and I never have."
"No no Tia don't leave me please I love you."
Star Swirl began to notice the same colors beginning to take effect in Luna's eyes, "I better stop this."
Star Swirl broke the monster into chunks as it whispered to Luna, "I will never love you."
Star Swirl trotted over to Luna as his magic pushed away the smoke from her eyes, "Do you want to try again tomorrow?"
Luna slowly raised her face that had numerous tears running down it to meet his eyes, "Tomorrow, again. You want to put me up against that thing again! I don't care about a small little fear but that thing is not my fear, it is a monster! I don't care about controlling the moon or the sun and I could care less about the stars. I'm going home."
Star Swirl watched as Luna trudged off, "Maybe she isn't ready for her destiny. I will find her again some day." In thought, he soon heard some noises coming from behind the broken rock monster. He approached it to find a single black crystal casting a shadow on the ground below it. "That doesn't make sense the sun wouldn't be casting a shadow like that."
Small whispers came from the crystal is it glowed a dark purple, "Of course it doesn't make sense but it is still there, what do you see wizard."
"What are you?"
"I am fear and darkness, I am power. Tell me now what do you see."
"How did.."
"What do you see wizard!"
"I see the sun and the moon fighting for or over something. I see a fire that I caused I." The crystal seemed to smile at him as he was taken over by fear. "Do you think I am stupid?" A giant magical barrier surrounded him as the fear went away. "I created you and I know how you work but I will not allow you to take control me."
"It's not true!" Luna slammed her hoof into the ground as she cried into the grass below her.
"Luna where are you!"
"She loves me right, she cares for me right?"
"Oh, Luna there you are. I was worried sick I couldn't find you and I didn't want to try to find you after I lowered the sun, your mane and coat match right into the grass at night."
"Tia do you love me?"
"What kind of a question is that of course, I do what would make you think differently."
