//------------------------------// // Critter Meeting // Story: An Apple A Day Keeps The Lemur Awesome // by destinedjagold //------------------------------// A white bunny rabbit was waving his furry little paw overhead. Standing by the cottage’s open wooden door, the furry creature waved and looked on at the two departing beings outside: one a yellow pegasus pony with a long pink mane and the other a...skinny...bear...monkey...female...thing. The pegasus pony turned around and closed the wooden gate. Seeing the bunny, she smiled and waved back. “We’ll be back before lunch time, Angel Bunny,” she said, her soft, angelic voice reaching the rabbit’s twitching ears. The other creature, the weird tall one, turned around as well, her brilliant yellow and blue dress flowing with her graceful movement. An empty basket hung on her white-as-snow arm. Her short, black hair slightly bounced on her head as her rosy lips parted, speaking a language no one could understand but— “Snow White is saying that she’s excited to give you a bath when we return,” the pegasus translated. The waving paw froze in the air, and a frown broke the smile on the rabbit’s face. The pair turned around and continued on their way towards town, talking with each other. Still frowning, Angel hopped inside and kicked the door closed. “Oh boy,” said a voice from up above. “Here comes mister grumpy.” “Go choke on a seed,” Angel hissed, glaring at the group of birds perched on the birdhouses. Ignoring their chirping chuckles, he hopped towards the dining table, where the other animals have gathered themselves. With powerful legs, he hopped on a chair, and hopped on top of the table. Dusting himself, he cleared his throat before he looked at gathered animals. “Okay, so,” Angel began, looking at each and every present animals. “...Where’s Blue?” The other animals looked around, looking for the animal in question. “H-here!” a voice squeaked from below. Blinking, Angel Bunny hopped towards the edge of the table and looked down, frowning at the porcupine who was giving him a sheepish smile. Rolling his eyes, he turned to the bear and snapped his cute little fingers. Grunting, the old bear leaned down and picked the porcupine up the table. “Thanks, Harry,” Blue said, smiling at him. Clearing his throat, he sat on his spiny bum, took a small piece of parchment from a bird beside him and pulled out one of his quills on his back. He licked the pointed end of the spike and held it like a pen. “Ready,” he said, winking at the impatient bunny. “Finally,” Angel grunted. He looked at the many animals on and around and above the table. “So it’s been...like...” “Three months,” the porcupine said as he wrote tiny animal letters on his tiny parchment. Angel nodded. “I knew that.” He coughed. “Ahem, so... It’s been three months since Flutters took that weird creature called ‘Snow White’ in.” He looked around. “So far, from what I’ve noticed, she’s nothing but helpful, albeit annoying.” The animals shared a quiet chuckle. Angel rolled his eyes. “Laugh it up,” he said with an unamused frown. He cleared his throat. “Ahem, anyway,” he looked at the animals again, “so far, no one has any problems with her.” “Except for you,” a bird suddenly blurted out. “Har har.” Angel shook his head. “So no problems with her?” The animals shook their heads. Angel shrugged. “Oh well... Onto the next agenda.” He waved a paw. “Bring the thing.” A trio of bird heads nodded. Flapping their wings, they flew in the air, made a u-turn, and flew towards the cabinets. One of the birds grabbed the wooden knob with its talons and pulled a cabinet door open. The other two flew inside and grabbed a small, wooden tray, and carried it towards the table. On the tray was a rounded item covered with a small white piece of clothing. “Is that Snow White’s handkerchief?” one of the animals on the table asked as the two birds placed the tray on the table. “I couldn’t find a small enough piece of cloth to cover the thing,” Angel explained as he approached the item in question. “You can always chew the curtains to make one,” another said, garnering a few chuckles from the others. Angel rolled his eyes as he grabbed one end of the handkerchief. “Har har.” He shook his head. “Moving on... Some of you recall that weird black creature who visited our cottage two days ago, yes?” The animals looked at each other, blinked, and slowly moved their gazes up the ceiling... Yesterday... A white bunny rabbit was waving a furry little paw overhead. Standing by the cottage’s open wooden door, the furry creature waved and looked on at the two departing beings outside: one a yellow pegasus pony with a long pink mane and the other a...skinny...monkey...ape...female...thing. Still frowning, Angel hopped inside and closed the door. Turning around, he hopped— Knock knock knock knock! Skidding to a stop, the white rabbit let out an annoyed huff as he turned around again and hopped towards the wooden door. Pulling it open, he looked outside and saw a large mass of black...and the ugliest face he has ever seen in his entire rabbit life. Shouting a quiet but terrified scream, he slammed the door just as the ugly creature was about to make a sound with its ugly, wrinkly mouth. The animals looked at each other and nodded with frowns on their faces Angel sighed. “Not a good face to remember.” Shaking his head, he tightened his grip on the cloth and pulled, revealing a shiny red apple on the tray. “It left this in front of the door.” “An apple,” a squirrel said. A bird hopped closer to the fruit and took a sniff. “Smells like one, too.” “Looks delicious, too,” Harry said, licking his mouth. “And suspicious,” Angel said, eyeing the fruit with a critical eye. “It doesn’t look suspicious,” a mouse squeaked. “So we gathered here to talk about an apple left by an ugly animal?” an owl asked. Angel shook his head. “No.” He glares at the fruit. “We’re here to figure out what to do with it.” “We can just throw it away if it’s as suspicious as you say,” Blue said, writing on his tiny parchment. “Mmmaybe...” Angel said. Harry shrugged. “Can I eat it?” “No!” Angel exclaimed at him. “It’s suspicious! Why would that ugly thing leave an apple in front of the door in the first place, anyway?” “Mmmaybe it just wanted to be friendly?” another mouse squeaked. “You did slammed the door in front of its face.” “What would you do if something that ugly suddenly appeared in front of your face?” “...touché.” “But you may be right,” Angel said, returning his gaze on the red fruit. “It was probably a lost animal, maybe just like Snow White, but an ugly version of her.” He sighed. “I’ll tell Flutters about what happened.” He looked back at the others. “Any objections?” The animals looked amongst themselves and shrugged. Angel Bunny sighed, his ears drooped. “Flutters is not gonna like it.” “As if you cared,” Harry said, earning a chorus of laughter from the others. “You got that right,” Angel said. “Today’s meeting is over,” he said. As the animals went back to their places, he turned to the porcupine. “You wrote all that down?” “Yep,” Blue smiled and nodded, his little paws busy writing on the parchment. “Still not sure why I need to write everything in every gathering that we do, though.” He shrugged. “It’s not like we’re going to read it. I feel important and useless at the same time.”
