//------------------------------// // The Council Meeting // Story: The Dawn Follows the Sunset // by JesterintheNight //------------------------------// Chapter 2: The Council Meeting A hammer pounded on a large wooden table that was in the shape of a large circle, in the center was a much smaller table that had lights surrounding it. Though the lights were off at the moment, the only lights on was a large chandelier that hung above the two tables. The ceiling was high enough to where you could fit a bus standing on its front and back. As the hammer pounded on the table at one end several hooded figures all sat down at their spots. Though a few seats were empty showing not all members were in attendance at the moment. “This council meeting is now in order.” The figure with the hammer said, setting the hammer down they pushed their hood back revealing an elder man most likely in his late 50’s. He had a beard that was a few inches long, his hair was shaved about half an inch long but it was still thick showing no signs of balding. A few other members slid their hoods back, a man wearing wire frame glasses that was sitting nicely on his nose smiled at his fellow members. One member had his eyes closed tightly, he wore sunglasses and there was a cane beside his chair showing he was blind. A woman with long red hair looked very bored, she looked the youngest out of the members yet to reveal themselves. The rest kept their hoods up, the old man sat down at the table. A hooded man beside him stood up raising a hand to his mouth coughing lightly. “Welcome my brothers and sisters, we are here to discuss a certain young lady that has entered our world from Equestria.” He said knowingly, a few members mumbled under their breath some appearing surprised by this news. One hooded figure stood up. “What do you mean one has entered our world, we have no had contact from anyone in over 500 years” He said seeming rather unhappy with this bit of news, the man who first spoke raised his hand to calm the unhappy person. “Now now brother Wave Rider while this is true that we haven’t spoken in forever to a pony from Equestria our radar had picked them up entering the portal a day ago. We had dispatched one Agent to the scene to confirm this, though we believe they only entered the first time to make sure they could.” The hooded man said, Wave Rider sat down after hearing this. The red head this time stood up pointing to the spot that was empty on the other side of the old man who used the hammer. “Is that where they went?” She said, the man nodded once before continuing to speak. “Why send them, they have no business being there. They aren’t ready!” She said raising her voice in annoyance. “We have several well trained men and women who could a handled it, they are just a greenhorn!” The hooded man raised his hand once again to silence her, she slowly sat back down in annoyance. “They were best suited for the mission, they are young yes but they were best because if anyone spotted them on the school grounds. They wouldn’t ask questions last thing we need are for police to be involved.” The man said before turning to look at the empty seat, as he did the doors behind him opened up. Another hooded figure walked out holding a large book under one arm, closing the door quietly they took their spot beside the old man in the empty spot the red head pointed to. “I apologize for being late, I was searching for something” They said before setting the book down beside them on an empty chair, the hooded man continued to speak. “Welcome little brother, I hope your bringing us good news.” The man said, the new figure nodded once before standing up. The other sat down letting them speak, the ‘Agent’ cleared their throat before speaking. “At 1901, the portal was opened up and a lone female came out. She appeared young, perhaps highschool age. If I had not seen her come right out of the portal I would have most likely mistaken her for one of the students. As I begin my report to Nightlight she had heard me, as she came over I retreated to a few hundred feet away.” They said, the man with the wire frame glasses folded his hands in front of his face so only the top half of his face could be seen. “Were you compromised?” He said, the standing figure simply shook their head before continuing to speak. “No brother Nightlight, she was clumsy with her steps so I had a good head start on her before she even got a few feet. I was forced to hide behind the sport shed, as I continued my report to you she took out a large bag of ‘Bits’.” The figure said, the blind man spoke this time. “Bits? You mean that she plans to live here?” He said not even bothering to turn in the figures direction, the figure stood up fully as they stepped away from the chair walking around the table. “I believe that is her intention Blindside, the bag seemed full. Maybe around…. Half a million in gold bits. Enough to last a few years in our world.” They said as they passed by the man named Blindside, they continued to walk around the table slowly. “Unfortunately when I stepped aside to continue my report she had slipped away.” They said, the red head stood up in annoyance once again. “So you lost them!?” She shouted at the figure, they paused for a moment before nodding once continuing their path around the table. “I knew you weren’t ready!” She screamed out, the man who sat down as the ‘Agent’ stood up raised his hand. “Sister Firey please settle yourself, or I will be forced to have you removed” The man said, Firey as the red head was called looked angrily at the man. “Don’t tell me to calm down, I told you they were weren’t ready yet. We should have sent one of mine, that’s what I train them for!” She said, the standing figure could have sworn if they cracked an egg on her head it would fried instantly. But they finally reached their seat reaching for the book… “The last time we let our guard down and sent weak agents the Sirens escaped our gra” A loud slam was heard as the figure dropped their book on the table, making Firey freeze almost, the figure pressed one finger to the book. “You all know what this book is..” They said, Blindside cleared his throat. “Expect for brother Blindside, my apologies.” They said, Blindside simply waved his hand to dismiss. The figure picked up the book holding it up for all of them to clearly seen, Firey sat down slowly looking nervous at the book. “This book has contained the laws, and rules of our order since our creation 1500 years ago when a certain someone opened the portal to this world, connecting our world to the world of Equestria. They asked our founders to help them.” The figure said lowering the book onto the table, they opened it to the first few pages. Pointing to the first paragraph. “We exist to protect two worlds so that they can live in harmony with each other, in peace, in friendship, in love.” They said reading aloud, Firey glared at the ‘Agent’ as if they just slapped them in front of everyone. “Our laws state that in dangerous times we must take matters into our own hands to protect what we hold dear. But we are never to take a life if it can be saved, and if someone or somepony in this case wishes to live in peace. We have no right to stop them.” The ‘Agent’ said, several members nodded their heads in agreement with the statement. It was Wave Rider who stood up sighing lightly. “Do you believe that this lone female is a threat to our world?” There was a small pause before the ‘Agent’ shook their head, they then closed the book. “No, I don’t believe she is. I believe she is here for another chance in life” ‘Agent’ said, Wave Rider raised his hand in protest for a moment. “And if she is a threat to us will you be the one to take responsibility for her actions?” Another paused before the figure nodded their head. “I will” They said, Wave Rider sat down in his spot before mumbling “I hope you know what you’re doing…” The figure who stood to calm Firey before sat down, along with the ‘Agent’. The old man with the hammer stood up slamming the table once. “Then this meeting is over, my brothers and sister go in peace.” The old man said before leaving the hammer on the table and walking out of the room, Firey glared at the ‘Agent’ before sliding her hood up to leave. She pushed several members aside as if she was a queen on her way out the door, the man who stopped Firey earlier sighed lightly as it was him and the ‘Agent’ last in the large room. “That wasn’t smart” The man said before pulling his hood back to reveal a gray haired man, it was done in a spikey style. He wore grey sunglasses, and had a small X shaped scar on his right cheek, his skin was a pale tanish color. The other figure looked to the man and laughed once. “What making Princess over there angry?” They said seeming unbothered by what they did, the man looked to the figure with a frown. “You publicly embarrassed Firey, she won’t take kindly to that. Slamming our laws in front of her is the same as spitting in her face.” The man said before standing up slowly, he stretched his back out for a moment. “Our laws clearly state” the figure said, the man glared at them a bit making them pause midsentence. “Don’t bring our laws to me, I was there when they were written.” The figure lowered their head a little in shame, before pushing the book to the man. “Sorry Uncle.” They said before standing up as well, they walked past the man they referred to as ‘Uncle’. Their ‘Uncle’ watched them go back before picking up the book to look at the cover for a moment, as the figure opened the door ‘Uncle’ looked up. “You let her go didn’t you?” He said, his tone already gave hints he knew the answer. The figure stood in the doorway, sighing lightly they lean in the doorway. “Does it really matter?” They said, there was a pause before ‘Uncle’ put the book under their arm. “I suppose not, but you know that if something happens… I can’t protect you from the Orders wrath. And Firey will want you to resume your training because of this. You know that right?” Their ‘Uncle’ said watching the figure nod once. “I know, and I understand. It’s my punishment” They said, there was another short pause before the figure asked. “Is that all you wanted to ask? Or is there more?” ‘Agent’ said, the other nodded once though the figure couldn’t see it. “Yes, why let her go? Why risk the wrath of the others?” ‘Uncle’ asked, the figure turned around to face him. They thought about it for a moment, how to word it maybe? “She… said something that bugged me.” They stated, the other raised an eyebrow. “What did they say?” Another paused. “I’m not going back. She won’t keep me from my destiny, those were her words. They have been bothering me greatly.” ‘Agent’ said, ‘Uncle’ gave a slightly concerned looked at this bit of news. “And why didn’t you bring this up to the others? This is kinda important” He asked his voice slightly annoyed, though the figure understood why they kept a secret from the whole order. “Because you saw how Firey and others reacted to her just entering this world. They wanted her brought in, questioned, and worst case scenario…imprisoned” The ‘Agent’ answered, the man’s eyes soften a bit. The last part was most likely true, most of the order didn’t trust magic. Though he doubted that was the full reason why the ‘Agent’ kept this bit of new from them. “You don’t trust your siblings do you?” He asked, the figure looked down at the ground before nodding once. This time turning on their heels to walk out. “You know why I don’t” They said before closing the door behind them, a long silence filled the room before the man looked at the book in his possession. “I hope you know what you’re doing…”
