//------------------------------// // Rarity Is Too Generous // Story: Stuck // by NickyD //------------------------------// 9:00 A.M After going through my usual morning routine, I hear rapid knocking from the front of the library. The sound is comparable to a woodpecker. I quickly go to the door and answer to see… Rairy? She has a couple bags and dark circles under her eyes and her mane is disheveled. “Rarity?” I ask. “The one and only!” she explains in an upbeat tone. Her attitude is better than her looks. “What happened you? You look awful.” She exhales a tired sigh. “I’ve been up since Saturday night.” “You haven’t slept since Saturday!?” I ask shocked. What was she doing? “Yes, I’ve been up working on a huge project. But it’ll be well worth it!” She stops her hoof on the ground with determination. “I just need you to see it.” Wait what? “Trust me it’ll be worth your while if you see what I’ve made.” I raise a brow, kind of questioning why she would need me to see it. But what that “it” could be, kind of piques my curiosity. Ah what the hell? I don’t have anything to do until this afternoon. “Alright, let’s see it.” As the two of us walk into the boutique i just see a huge, purple felt, curtain drawn, covering half the store. Okay, that’s weird. “Is what you wanted to show me behind the curtain?” Rarity nods very giddy like. She seems really excited to show me whatever she made. “Alright, so let’s see what you did!” Nodding, she goes to a nearby rope that is suspended from the ceiling. Using her magic, she quickly yanks the rope and the curtain opens in a swift motion. With them being drawn back, I see a s##t ton of clothes on multiple racks and hangers. There’s casual stuff like v-necks, standard t-shirts, cargo shorts and several pairs of khaki pants and jeans (black and blue) all that good stuff. Those take up about four racks. There’s even a few polo shirts in the mix. There are even athletic clothing pieces like lightweight shirts, loose basketball shirts and even see two new pairs of shoes, both being black crossfit shoes I even see some fall and winter gear. Like, there are some sweatshirts that range in different colors and thicknesses. A couple heavy coats too for cold winter days. Off to the side I see a few other things. One is a rack of different snapbacks, ranging in colors and logos. Under the rack of hats are a some more new sneakers in coordination with the hat colors. To the right of the shoes, I see some undergarments like socks and underwear. To be honest, I am amazed at what I am seeing. All of this, Rarity has done in a span of almost....what? Thirty hours? It’s astounding! But what was this all for? “Rarity, I have to say, you put a lot of heart into this, but who is the one who needs all of these clothes?” The mare in question just giggles a little. What’s so funny? “It’s for you darling.” Huh? “You see, with you being here for quite some time, I made you a wardrobe that will last a year.” ...I’m speechless. She did this for me? Wow...just....wow…Okay, I have to show her thanks somehow. “Rarity, I have to pay you back.” I look back to the clothes and throw my hands to them. “I mean, look at all of this. I have to pay you back somehow.” “Well, there is one thing you could do for me...” “Anything!” I burst out. To Rarity, she finds it humorous because she lets out an, admittedly, adorable giggle. “...and it would be if you accept my job offer.” A what now? “What job offer?” “The job offer I’m about to offer.” That doesn’t roll off the tongue well. Rarity clutches her tongue in between her teeth and has a sour look on her face. Bet she doesn’t like the redundancy of how that sounded. “I was thinking, Nick, with you now living in Ponyville, you may want to find a way to get some sort of income on your own. So I figured I can give you a job here.” Is she serious now? She’s willing to give me a job. I would leap at this opportunity, but I should see what I will be diving into. “Well, what would I be doing?” I ask. “You’ll be like an assistant. Helping me get fabrics, making sure my inventory is organized and plentiful, help with measurements, keeping track of invoices, stuff of that nature.” So like an assistant with a little secretary work. That doesn’t seem bad. Actually, it’d be a good job to have. The only downside is that I don’t have any work experience aside from helping neighbors and relatives with some around the house chores and paying me for them. But with this job, I could actually get some real work experience. And Twilight won’t have to keep giving me bits whenever I go out. AND, this could teach me how to responsibly manage my finances. Know what? My mind is made up. “Alright Rarity, I’ll take the job offer. When do I start?” “You start tomorrow at nine in the morning. You should also be aware that we usually close at two, but we’re closing an hour early because of the block party. I’m getting the decorations set up for it.” Hopefully Vinyl and I can work out some rehearsing. “Well, I look forward to working with you ma’dam Rarity,” I say in joke like stiffness as I extend my hand to her. She giggles again and places her hoof in my hand to shake it. She lets go and we look back at the large array of clothes. “So how are we going to get these back to the library?” “...You know, I didn’t really think that far out.” “Thanks for helping us out guys,” I say to Thunderlane and Carmel. They were just passing by the boutique and Rarity and I thought they could give us a hand...hoof? Point is, they agreed to help us out. Now most of my clothes have been folded and put into bags. Carmel has a few bags on his back and a couple more gripped in his mouth. Thunderlane has a few bags gripped in between his teeth as well, but he's carrying more by his arms, and he’s flying instead of walking. Rarity is using her magic to carry some of the winter and fall gear. As for me, I am carrying a lot of boxes. Rarity decided to put my new kicks and hats in boxes, and it’s quite a tower. You know, this looks like something from a cartoon, where some poor bastard is carrying a tower of things and he’s looking like he’s struggling.... You know, I’ve said “like a cartoon” about a gagillion times and I keep forgetting I’m in one. Anyway… “Anything to help a pal out,” Caramel says through his grit teeth. “Mmhmm,” Thunderlane lets out, agreeing with Caramel. It does take some time, but all of us get back to the Library. But there is one problem. “How the heck am I supposed to get this through the door?” I ask. This stack of boxes tower the door, so it’ll be super difficult to get through. Even if I crouch, it won't work. “Let me help you out with that,” Rarity says. Using more of her magic, her magical aurora wraps around more than half the stack of boxes and levitates them with the rest of the clothing she has in her telekinetic grasp. “Thanks.” I only have four boxes in my grasp now. It’s a little tricky to get to the door handle. So what I do, I raise my left knee and have the small sack of boxes rest on it while my left hand and chin on top of the stack is keeping balance. I use my right hand to open up the door and it’s easy as cake. The four of us make it to my room in seconds. I use the same method to open the front door and we step inside. “Just set everything down on the bed guys, I’ll put them away in a bit. “ They do so and everyone orderly lays the bags on my bed. “Thanks a bundle boys.” “No problem!” the two chorus. “And Rarity, thank you once again. I really appreciate what you’re doing for me.” I crouch down and give the white mare a tight hug and she returns it in almost equal strength. “Aww…” Thanks for being the peanut gallery boys. “You are quite welcome Nick,” she says. “So I’ll be seeing you tomorrow at nine?” “Is the grass green?” Rarity giggles at my remark. She knows I’ll be there at nine sharp. “Take care of yourself. You hear me?” “Will do Rare.” She and I let go of our embrace and just smile at each other for a couple moments. “Do you need any help organizing your new clothes?” “I got it. You should get going, hate to hold you up.” “Alright. See you tomorrow morning darling.” She turns and trots out of my room and out of the library, Caramel and Thunderlane following in tow, bidding me good day. Now it’s just me in here with nothing but new clothes. “That woman is way too generous,” I say to no one in particular. I look around my room and realize, I don’t have a place to put my clothes. No dresser or closet. Welp, I just figured out what I’m spending my first paycheck on.
