As Spike walked around Ponyville he looked at all of the couples in town, all of the cute happy couples brought to his mind Rarity the only pony who could make his heart do jumping jacks and run a race. The little dragon wanted to confess his feelings for her but how? What would be the perfect way that’s unique and would make her remember it forever? Spike sat on a nearby bench and got his thinking straight, what would be the perfect way?
"Spike? where are you, we need to get going or were going to miss the train!" said a familiar voice, Spike almost forgot that today the ponies had to go to the Crystal Empire for something important involving the very young princess Flurry Heart.
"On my way!" he said as he ran down town to the train station, just as he arrived, a thought popped into his head! And it was a delightful one too. He would ask Princess Cadence herself about what to do! She was the princess of love anyway. As they arrived at the beautiful empire Spike couldn't wait, of course Twilight will tell him to stay at the castle and keep an eye on things with the princess, so that will give him the perfect time to talk to the princess without interruptions and Rarity knowing about what he is up to.
"Alright girls, we'll take care of Flurry Heart, Spike you go with Princess Cadence and help her do her weekly check up on the small villages in the empire" Twilight said to everyone, Spike was assisting Cadence? Perfect! As the dragon happily skipped over to the waiting princess he could sense the plan going just right. Cadence's weekly checkup involved a giant check list of making sure there was no littering on the ground, all buildings were still intact and the borders were still strong, sometimes even talking to her fellow citizens.
"So princess, I have an important question for you and it's kind of on the whole 'love' subject" he said a tad bit nervous, Cadence checked off things on the list as she listened to the little dragon.
"Well spike I’ll be happy to answer your question! And you can call me Cadence by the way, I don't mind" she said with a smile to show him that she didn't mean harm and was happy to help him.
"Well it's just, I want to tell Rarity how I really feel about her, and I want it to be special and unique! The problem is just I don't know how I could do that for her, she's a real special pony who deserves something real special..." he said with emotion. Cadence looked at him with a smile she has never heard something like this before, it was so heartwarming to hear that he wanted to treat her special and thought of her that way.
"Oh Spike, that’s so sweet of you. I think you should do something that comes straight from the heart, I know you can't think of anything real stunning at the moment but don't worry the idea will definitely come to you soon" she said to him giving a smile. Spike understood what she meant but he wanted to do something soon, not in a year not in ten months, he wanted to do something this month.
"Thanks for the advice Cadence, I guess I’ll keep thinking" he said as they were just finishing the checkup; however no-one noticed the pink blur that was hiding in the bushes watching the two the entire time.
"So he wants to swoon the beautiful Rarity? This will take only the professional help of Pinkie Pie!" said the pink pony who knew everything about everyone. Just as the two reached the castle courtyard Pinkie Pie jumped out of the bush and grabbed Spike.
"AHH! Oh it's just you Pinkie, why'd you drag me over here?" he said as she dragged him to the crystal royal garden.
"I heard you want to win Rarity's heart, I may have the perfect plans to help you in this twisted game of catch the girl" she said as if she were talking about a secret mission. Spike was listening, she had a few perfect ideas to be honest and he was eager to try them. "First we start off with operation 'Kiss the Girl' I saw it in a movie once so it's bound to work" Spike was ready for everything, he listened to the instructions and now it was time to put the first plan to effect.
OPERATION KISS THE GIRL
Spike led Rarity to Lake Clarity at the edge of Ponyville, there was a paddle boat waiting to be occupied by the two.
"L-ladies first Rarity!" he stuttered, just looking at her was taking his breath away. He climbed into the boat after her and started to paddle the boat off to a beautiful cave covered with water lilies and seaweed, it was like something in a movie it was so beautiful. He stopped the boat in the middle of a slow fire fly show, the sun was setting and it set the mood perfectly.
"Well Spike I didn't expect you to bring me here, as you said it is very beautiful..." she said with a light pink dust forming on her cheeks, Spike was captivated by her beauty and couldn't stop looking at her. She was truly stunning. Right as Pinkie gave the signal and disappeared, Spike knew exactly what to do.
"U-uh Rarity I guess you’re wondering why I dragged you all the way over here without explaining myself" he stopped as Rarity put her hoof to his mouth.
"No words are needed Spike, this was so sweet of you to bring me out here after a long day of stress at the boutique" she said with a smile.
"Well anyway I just wanted to tell you I AAH!" he stopped in mid-sentence as Rarity grabbed him as the boat flipped over into the water soaking them both. They swam to the surface which wasn't too far away to see a floating Pinkie emerge from the water. As Rarity dried herself off, Spike dragged Pinkie off to the side where Rarity couldn't hear them.
"Why did you flip the boat!? I was just about to tell her" he said with a pout still getting water out of his ears.
"Well it happened in the movie I thought it was necessary to do now!" she said as he stomped back to Rarity. Plan A failed.
"Spike you need to cheer up and think this through, you took Pinkie Pie's advice and that why it turned out so bad" Twilight said drying off the poor dragon.
"You are not helping" he added, he was still going to ask Pinkie for another idea, one that would not result in them getting soaked.
As weeks turned into another month passing, Pinkie Pie and her ideas didn't work and now he just dropped the idea completely. Cadences advice will be the best option he has right now and that’s waiting for a good idea. Today Twilight was off in Canterlot with the princesses discussing business, Spike was left to tidy up the castle and he was doing a good job till a knock at the door broke his concentration. The little dragon rushed to the door to see who was visiting.
"Hello, Twilights not home right now so-" he stopped, nobody was at the door. He looked around to see if anyone was around but nothing expect a note was left, he picked up the note and saw a strange poem written across the paper.
Walk to the flower shop and there you will flutter, meet the yellow pony to read the next letter a strange note indeed with a nice rhyme, he decided to put up his duster and head outside to the flower shop. As he walked by he saw Fluttershy waiting with another note in her hoof.
"Here you go Spike, I hope you don't mind going through all of this note finding, a pony put me up to it..." she said as she gave him the note, he thanked her and read the note
In the Everfree forest is where you'll meet, do not question me these notes aren't free! The Everfree forest? Hopefully this will be worth the walk, because he left the kitchen un-dusted.
As he entered the dark forest he saw a blue light in the distant, he followed the light until it stopped. There he found the last note, just as he was about to grab it a white hoof got in the way, it was Rarity?
"Spike! What are you doing this far out in the forest?" she asked him leaving the last note on the ground.
"I could ask you the same! I was following these notes and the one Fluttershy gave me led me here" he explained to her.
"She gave me the same note, either Pinkie is pulling another trick on us or this was meant for another pony" she said, sitting down she relaxed a bit. Spike just sat there watching, she was such a beautiful mare to him and he couldn't tell her that. Suddenly he felt a surge of confidence wash over him; he was going to do it.
"Rarity there's something I want to say and ask you" He stood up and took her hoof; he was going to tell her everything, his feelings, the stupid attempts of telling her. She was stunned a bit but was ready to listen to what he had to say.
"You are a beautiful mare who is so nice, generous, kind and considerate, I have wanted to tell you this for so long but Pinkie kept giving me weird ideas that never worked out right" he said as a smile grew on her face. "I really like you a lot, and not just as a friend, you are always so loving to everyone and always show up with a smile no matter how stressful things are, you always seemed to brighten my day up no matter how bad it is... and I admire you for that, what I wanted to ask was will you be my special some pony?" he finished with the question. Rarity couldn't believe her ears, all the things he said, she never knew his feelings were that strong. As a tear slipped out she brought a smile to her face.
"Of course Spikey Wikey..." she said as she hugged him close, no one has ever said things like that to her, no one has really admired her for anything else but her beauty. Now she has found the perfect little one. She picked up the last note with Spikes claw also holding it and opened it,
Now Kiss! Spike read as he turned bright red, Rarity giggled as she gave him a warm tender kiss on the cheek.
Cadence and Twilight sighed happily as they watched the two from the trees, Pinkies plan of writing notes for them to find around had worked! He finally confessed his feelings and they were accepted. Twilight's little Spike was growing up.
