//------------------------------// // Morning Sunrise // Story: The Rainbow and The Comet // by RNBW //------------------------------// Beams from the moon shone through the window of the room as Rainbow Dash was sleeping peacefully in her room with a pleasant smile plastered across her face. Save for her loud snoring, everything was awfully quiet until she was awoken to the sound of soft whimpering. Rainbow sat up in her bed, blinking a few times and letting out a big, loud yawn. She turned to see Comet Moonstone snuggled up against her, but the child was trembling and tears were rolling down his cheeks. "P-Please, d-don't leave m-me," Comet whimpered in his dream. Rainbow frowned and placed her hand over her heart at this sight. With a motherly smile, she bent her head down to his and whispered soothingly into his ear. "Shh... It's alright, buddy. Rainbow is here." Comet stirred a little, letting out a hiccup and blinking his eyes open. He looked up to see Rainbow smiling softly at him. "Oh, R-Rainbow. I-I am sorry i-if I woke you," Comet's lips quivered and lowered his head. Rainbow brushed away his tears and gave him a tender kiss on his forehead. "No, Comet, it's alright. There's nothing to be sorry of," she said reassuringly as she wrapped her arm around his shoulder. Comet remained silent, but wrapped his arms around her waist. Rainbow gently stroked his head and scooped him up into her arms, rocking him back and forth while murmuring words of comfort. "Did you have another bad dream?" Rainbow asked softly without ceasing her rocking. "Y-Yes," Comet nodded and hugged her tightly. "A really scary dream." "Can you tell me how it was?" Rainbow inquired, gently rubbing his belly. Comet took a deep, shuddering breath. "You-you were in it. It's a little hard to remember, but I knew you were there. And it was dark. Dark and scary and really foggy. L-Like my other d-dream, I-I was inside of a cage, I think. My legs were shackled too and it hurt was really hard. My head was hurting and it was pounding so much a lot so I almost couldn't think right." Rainbow didn't like how this dream was going, but she hummed in reply, bringing him closer to her chest. Tears began to roll down Comet's cheecks once again as he shuddered. "And-and you were far away, you were standing off somewhere. I was stuck, I couldn't move due to the chains. I was calling you, calling you, Rainbow Dash!" he whimpered, hiccuping. "You weren't answering, I tried to get up! You were walking away and not listening. I cried and I told you to come back, but you just left! And then it got darker, and you were gone." Rainbow Dash drew in a sharp breath on a gasp, breaking the hug to look at the kid. "I left you?" "Yes. You did!" Comet nodded solemnly and buried his head on her shoulder. "And I was really sad and I couldn't move! Why would you leave!?" he said as he began to sob. Rainbow shook her head hard, shushing his sobs. "No, no. Buddy, no, it was a dream. I would never, ever leave you like that," she said reassuringly, rubbing tenderly his back. Comet sniffed. "But..." "No buts, Comet," Rainbow said firmly, pulling back to look at the kid and fixing her eyes on his. "Never. Please, never think that. I said it once and I'll said it again: I will always be here for you, got it?" Comet was silent for a moment, but he gave her an affirmative nod. Rainbow pulled back the kid into a motherly hug and murmured more words of comfort into his ear, caressing his arm. "I'm sorry for not trusting you," Comet whispered, feeling guilty. Rainbow felt her heart melt and shook lightly her head. "Don't be. It was just a bad dream." She took off his hood from his raccoon themed pajamas and began to softly caress his hair with her hand and his shoulder with the other hand as Comet returned the hug, laying his head on her chest. Still embracing him, Rainbow looked out at the window and saw that a very small golden glow was coming from the mountains. A smile slowly crept across her face. "Comet, follow me," Rainbow said, looking down at him with that same smile. Comet looked at her in curiosity as she hopped off the bed. Rainbow held out her hand, motioning for the little kid to come. Comet didn't know what she was going to do, but he nodded and climbed off the bed. Rainbow gently took his hand into her own, both walking out of the room and she led him toward the sliding glass door that led to the balcony. Rainbow opened the door and both went outside. Comet looked up at the shining stars that freckled the black and serene sky along with the moon. Comet sighed closed his eyes as a soft wind began to blow against his face. Rainbow kneeled down to his level and turned around to face her back toward him. "Okay, Comet, climb on my back. I have a surprise for you," she said with a smirk. Comet looked at her in confusion, but he complied. He carefully wrapped his arms around Rainbow’s neck as she stood up, gripping his legs and lifting him up. "Umm, what are we going to do, Rainbow?" Comet asked in his usual innocent tone. Rainbow chuckled as her smirk widened. "Tight your arms, Comet. I'm going to take you to a little ride," she said, giving him a wink. With that being said, Rainbow closed her eyes as a blue aura began to surround her body. Suddenly, a pair of blue wings appeared on Rainbow's back, her ears shifted to her prismatic hair, turning into a pair of pony ears and her hair became longer and tied in a ponytail. Comet's eyes widened in shock at this unexpected phenomenonal sight. Once the transformation was done, Rainbow opened her eyes and looked back at Comet with a smile. "Surprised?" "Wow..." Comet muttered, looking at her wings. "I'll take that as a yes," Rainbow chuckled before turning her attention to the sky. "Hold on, little guy." Rainbow started to flap her wings to hover up in the air as Comet tightened his arms. The ground below them shrank as Rainbow hovered upwards and she flew towards the sky like a bullet, leaving a multicolored trail. Comet smiled happily as the wind blew against his face as Rainbow flew above Canterlot City, doing barrel rolls and somersaults. Rainbow flew in a zigzagging pattern around the clouds without touching them, followed by a spiral dive and another somersault. "This is so much fun, Rainbow! You're so awesome!" Comet happily said. Rainbow smiled at his excitement and chuckled. "I know. They don't call me Rainbow 'Danger' Dash for nothing!" After soaring above Canterlot for a few more minutes, Rainbow flew towards a cliff that was located on the outskirts of the city. She carefully landed on the ground and crouched down to let the child climb off her back. Rainbow looked up at the sky, letting out a warm sigh as Comet sat down beside Rainbow. Noticing this, Rainbow wrapped her arm around Comet, pulling him close to her and laying her wing over him. "It's very pretty at night, Rainbow," Comet said, smiling soflty at her. "I know, buddy," Rainbow replied with a soft smile of her own. "My mother and I used to watch the sun rise when I had your age. And now, I wanted to share this moment with you." "Your Mommy, Rainbow?" Comet inquired in curiosity. Rainbow nodded followed by another sigh, a look of nostalgia creeping across her face. "Umm, where is she?" Comet asked. "In Cloudsdale. If you're wondering why she's not here, it is because when I turned sixteen, she needed to return to Cloudsdale to attend important business," Rainbow replied, stroking his hair. "She's the leader of a brigade called Silver Wing which is kinda like the police." Comet smiled at the news. "So, she protects people and she puts on jail the bad people?" "That's right," Rainbow said with a warm smile. "She also teached me the meaning of Loyalty. Do you know what does mean Loyalty?" Comet though of it for a momment and shook his head. "Loyalty means never leaving behind your friends and family," Rainbow explained before placing her hand over Comet's heart. "It is hard to find and if you find it, keep it." Comet gave her a bright smile and nodded before wrapping his arms around her. "I will, Rainbow. I will keep it when I find it." Rainbow smiled and returned the hug, laying both wings over him and laying her chin on top of his head. "Comet, look," Rainbow said, her gaze now fixed on the mountains. The kid shifted his gaze towards the mountains and saw that a small golden glow was coming from behind the mountains. Comet smiled warmly as the golden orb slowly ascended against the sky, followed by a deep orange glow that showered the two and the city. Comet sighed and laid his head on her shoulder, enjoying the sunrise. Rainbow Dash smiled at the child and gave him a kiss on his forehead before looking at the sunset.
