//------------------------------// // Mother's Day // Story: Mother // by chillbook1 //------------------------------// “Spike!” called Twilight, bustling through her throne room, levitating things into her suitcase. “Come on, we’re going to be late for Mother’s Day Brunch!” A spectacular brunch had been planned in the Crystal Empire to celebrate the motherhood of Twilight Velvet and Princess Cadance, as well as the psuedo-motherhood of Princess Celestia. “One sec!” called Spike. “Just gotta—” Twilight could hear a loud belch and the sound of dragonfire bursting into the air. “Letter from Celestia!” called Spike, running into the room. He clutched a yellow envelope in his claws, which he handed to Twilight. Using her magic, Twilight split the seal and tapped the envelope’s contents out and into her hoof. It was a Mother’s Day card, a simple piece of golden construction paper folded crookedly in half. It was crude, as if made by a foal. Twilight looked at it unfamiliarly, then opened it up. There was a poem messily scribbled in crayon. Beneath it was an elegant note written in the neat, looping hoofwriting that Twilight recognized instantly as her former teacher’s Life is a harmony to be achieved Not by small trials, but by forthcoming From all the antagonists retrieved Our legs strengthened for running. In unison, a remedy to the believers A ringing of beauty piercing through Captivated are the achievers Who shed the blood of true Friends and warriors alike strive together Bone crushing blows to their hearts Tattered and strained by the weather They’re always around to pick up the parts A rainbow of color to those who stay strong Fearful thoughts often defer us from here Whether we do what’s right, or do what’s wrong Our minds remain clear, because we are here And we sing our harmonious song. Dear Twilight Sparkle, I formerly and foolishly believed that I would never be able to have a child. However, when I received this card from you all those years ago, I realized that I was wrong. Though I never bore a foal, you were like a daughter to me, and remain so to this day. This gift from you, when you were but a filly, warmed my heart and filled my being with a love I have scarcely felt before or since. I hope to return some of that love to you. Happy Mother’s Day, Your “Second Mommy” Twilight smiled, then wrapped the card with her magic. She breathed deeply and synthesized a frame around it, casting several protection and longevity spells on it. She set it in the center of her large table, then set off to see the important mares in her life.
