A Wish in Reality

Settling in

On the flight home, Thunder Flash carried the colt and Rainbow Dash carried the filly. For some reason, they didn’t talk the whole way back. Not until they reached the front porch. That’s when Flash decided to joke around a little bit.

“So the brash, athletic Rainbow Dash allowed herself to get knocked up? That’s interesting…” He pretended to be intrigued.

“Oh, shut up!” Rainbow protested as she playfully shoved him. Flash laughed and opened the door, and they walked inside.

“You know what I realized? As well as names, we don’t have any cribs or toys or anything that THEY like!” Flash mentioned.

“No, definitely not happening. I don’t want that little baby stuff anywhere near me!” Rainbow objected.

“Fine then, have it your way. But it’s on you when they won’t stop crying of boredom. They’re your foals.” Flash warned.

Rainbow got a weird feeling when he said that. A feeling she couldn’t identify.

“Yeah, but they’re your foals too.” She mentioned.

Flash and Rainbow set the sleeping foals on the couch and walked into the kitchen. Flash chuckled randomly.

“What’s so funny?” Rainbow asked.

“What about diaper changings?” He asked.

Rainbow Dash let out a bloodcurdling scream. Flash had to cover his ears to keep from going deaf.

“NO! That’s your problem!” She yelled.

Flash was stunned. He stared blankly, then reached up and wiped his face. “Say it, don’t spray it.” He said, annoyed.

Rainbow Dash didn’t say anything in reply. She just stared at him, and slowly shook her head as if saying “Neevveerr……”

Flash had to laugh at that. He admired the way she reacts to stuff like that. “Fine then, do what you want. But eventually you’re going to have to help out. You can’t just give birth to two foals and then not agree to help me with them.”

Rainbow’s response was immediate. “You’re the one who caused me to have the foals in the first place.” She responded.

Dang girl, you’re good. “Okay, you got me, you win.” Flash confessed. Rainbow gave a content smirk. “But you still need to help out somewhat. I’m not doing everything.” Flash added.

Rainbow’s smile disappeared. “Fine…” She sighed.

Flash gave her a look of sympathy. “I’m sorry; it’s just that you can’t get everything you want in life. It doesn’t work that way.”

Rainbow looked up into his eyes.

“But I do have something you want with me right now. Close your eyes.” He ordered, sounding excited. Rainbow Dash stared at him confused, and then closed her eyes.

She felt something being laid down onto her hoof. Then Flash said for her to open her eyes. When she did, she was blown away.

Resting in her hoof were four tickets to a Canterlot-style cruise liner. It was a five star liner that only the richest ponies and their kids ever got to ride on.

Rainbow started to hyperventilate. “W…where did you get these?! These things cost a fortune!”

“I know! I thought it would be perfect for the four of us! Just you, me and the foals!”

“But…why? This cost SO much! Why would you take so much money out of your pocket to do this for us?” She asked.

“I thought it would be the perfect way to celebrate you having the new foals! So what do you think?” He answered.

“What do I think? Let me show you what I think…”

Rainbow Dash walked forward and kissed Thunder Flash on the lips. He returned the favor, and soon after they started making out for a solid minute and a half.

Meanwhile, the foals had woken up a long time ago, and were crouched down by the edge of the couch. They were watching what their parents were doing, and were giggling their little hearts out.

Rainbow pulled away from Flash and turned toward the couch to see her foals laughing.

“Oh ha ha, you guys think this is so funny don’t you?” She asked sarcastically. Soon, she started laughing as well, and Thunder Flash joined in.

After their little funny-fest, Rainbow looked down at the tickets one more time. She saw something at the bottom, and gasped.

“Flash, this cruise liner leaves on Friday afternoon! That’s tomorrow!” She noticed.

“Well then we should get packing, shouldn’t we?” He replied.

………………………………

Later that afternoon, with all their bags packed in the other room, Flash and Rainbow sat on the couch with their foals on their lap. They weren’t doing anything except socializing.

“You know what I don’t get? How are we going on a cruise when it’s the middle of winter?” Rainbow asked.

“It’s in the southern half of Equestria, where it’s always warm.” Flash answered.

There were a couple seconds of silence where only their foals could be heard before Flash spoke again.

“You know something I don’t quite understand? About a month ago, Twilight told us your deepest desire was to have a family. I thought your deepest desire was to join the Wonderbolts.” Flash asked.

“Flash, joining the Wonderbolts is my lifelong goal, not my deepest desire. Nopony can easily blab their deepest desire to just anyone. That’s why you never heard about mine, because I already had my desire.” She gave him a loving look, which he returned.

“I’m still surprised I could get a mare like you, who never wanted to waste her life with another pony.” Flash stated.

“Well, you were the exception.” Rainbow answered softly. The filly on her lap giggled, and she smiled down at it.

After a couple minutes of silence, Flash changed the subject. “You know, sooner or later the downsides of having these foals are going to come up. It’s not just going to be giggling and happiness for everypony.” Flash mentioned.

“Yeah, I know. It’s going to be a long and hard journey. It’s going to make my first Sonic Rainboom sound like nothing instead of an accomplishment.” Rainbow replied.

There was a couple more seconds of silence before Flash spoke.

“So what was it like?” He asked.

“What was what like?”

“You having those foals back at the hospital. What did that feel like?”

Rainbow chuckled. “Trust me; there are some things in life even you don’t want to know.” Rainbow answered. Flash simply nodded.

There was even more silence before Flash spoke again.

“I’m serious, there’s more to raising foals than you know. Did you know they’re too young for formula milk?” Flash mentioned.

“So, what is that supposed to mean? What does it matter?” Rainbow asked.

Flash hesitated before he spoke. “It means you have to feed them naturally, if you know what I mean.” He answered.

"...I still don't know what you mean."

Flash sighed.
"It means you have to breastfeed them! You know, naturally!"

Rainbow had a priceless look of disgust on her face. Flash laughed.

“I’m sorry, but that’s just the way it works.” He said.

Rainbow, with the same look on her face, said, “Yeah, this is going to be harder than I thought…”

Flash chuckled. “Don’t worry, we can shake it off and relax for a bit when we get on the cruise tomorrow.”
