//------------------------------// // New Spell // Story: Momma Twilight // by WindDance123 //------------------------------// Twilight paced around her castle in the library, feeling giddy. You could tell by the huge smile she had on her face and the excited mumbling. Spike was busy reshelving books when he couldn't help but notice out of the corner of his reptilian eye Twilight trotting around, making slight hops. "Twilight, why are you so... excited today?" asked the young dragon as he pushed the "Studies of Friendship" book back in its place on the low shelf. "I mean, this is behavior I'd expect from Pinkie, not you." Twilight was snapped out of her thoughts and opened her eyes, her smile quickly vanishing. She turned to face the confused dragon and smiled slightly again. "You won't believe this, Spike, but I-" "Ooh! I bet I can guess. Did Flurry Heart finally learn to control her freaky magic?" "Well, no, but-" "Is it Shining Armor's birthday?" Twilight's dark purple eyes dimmed, looking dismayed. "Um.... no, but-" All of a sudden, Spike's eyes went wide as he made a loud gasp. "Ooh! Ooh! I know! Did you finally get an official kingdom to rule over?!" Twilight's eyebrows furrowed as she slightly shouted, "No! Spike, you won't believe this- I FOUND A NEW SPELL!" The smile that had once appeared on Twilight's face came back just as quickly as it had left, as she hopped around once more. Spike, however, didn't look the least bit excited. He, instead, just crossed his arms as he raised one eyebrow. "Um... and that's exciting, how, exactly?" Twilight stopped hopping immediately and looked confused, cocking one eyebrow. "Spike, do you not understand how great this is?!" Spike still didn't look alarmed. "Well, no. I mean, finding and doing spells is sort of your thing, so for me, this is pretty normal." "But Spike," said Twilight. "This is the first new spell I've learned since I got this castle!.... Not counting the one Sunburst taught me, of course." Spike sighed as he rolled his lime-green eyes. "I suppose that's great. But, now that I've reshelved all of your books, can I get a rest?" "Sorry, Spike," said Twilight, an apologetic twinkle appearing in her eye. "I wanted to test this spell out first." It was then that Spike started looking alarmed. "Oh, gosh, Twilight! No way am I gonna do that! Remember last time I was your little test dummy for a new spell you found out? My tail was almost singed off!" Twilight suppressed a chuckle. "Don't worry, Spike. I'm not gonna test the spell out on you. I'll test it out on my friends, and I don't have to worry about any tail-singing or anything dangerous, so they're completely safe." Spike sighed in relief. "Whew. Well, now can I get a rest?" Twilight shook her head. "Sorry Spike. But you'll have to guard the castle while I'm gone. I promise I'll be back before an hour, okay?" Spike did a salute. "You got it, Princess!" Twilight allowed a little giggle to escape as she left, calling over her shoulder, "Bye, Spike!" The little dragon waved after her and with that, the door shut. Exactly 40 minutes later. The throne door opened with six ponies: Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie, Rarity, Applejack, and Fluttershy, respectively. "Hey, Spike, I'm back!" called the first pony mentioned, a huge smile on her lavender face. Spike smiled as he waved to the ponies who past him, except for Rarity, who he just smiled dreamily at. "Alright, everypony," said Twilight to the five other ponies. "I'm gonna need you to stay huddled in a group, but make sure to at least leave eachother a little space, okay? That's when I'm gonna test the spell on you. You're going to all need to stay still. That goes for you too, Pinkie. I can't concentrate if you bounce all the time." The pink pony blushed sheepishly as she stopped bouncing, saying in her usual high-pitched voice, "Sorry, Twi! I just get really excited at these sorts of things. It's really hard for me to stay still for more than 10 seconds." Twilight chuckled. "Don't worry, Pinkie. This shouldn't take longer than 3 minutes. ...And I really hope you can manage to stay still for at least three minutes." "Um, I'll try." And so Twilight took a few steps back, then turned over to Spike. "Um, Spike?" The dragon stopped gazing at Rarity and turned back to his adoptive mother. "Yes, Twilight?" "You may want to take a few steps back for this..." "Um, okay." The dragon did as the purple alicorn asked. And that was when Twilight bowed her head to the five ponies and scrunched her eyes, letting magical energy surround her horn. She groaned, not in frustration, but rather in tiredness. The spell Twilight was testing out was really powerful, a spell that took up most of her energy, a spell that only the "highest-level unicorns" and alicorns could perform. The magenta aura circled Twilight's horn and, without warning, without Twilight's will, a bright magenta lazer shot out from Twilight's horn to her friends. They all screamed in both surprise and fear, and all of a sudden, they were engulfed in this magical source. When the magic finally poofed into several silver sparkles that dissolved when they hit the ground, Twilight collapsed, then opened her heavy dark violet eyes. What she saw in front of her, shocked her.
