//------------------------------// // Chapter 1 // Story: The Heir of Chaos // by Cherry Bonds //------------------------------// Celestia stood on her balcony, looking at a school group visiting the Canterlot sculpture garden as a part of their field trip. She recognized some of the ponies in the school group from her visits to Ponyville. She especially recognized the orange, pale yellow, and alabaster fillies. She remembered Twilight writing to her about them once or twice. What were their names again? Sweetie Loo? Scooter? Oh, it didn't matter. Celestia took a sip from her tea and put the cup back on the railing. She noticed that the class was now looking at the statue of Discord. Looking at his frozen form always reminded her of Twilight, and what she had to go through to where she is today. Celestia wondered why she didn't turn Twilight into a pony. If she did Twilight wouldn't have had to deal with being bullied by her old classmates. Celestia remembered when one time Twilight refused to go to school, fearing that she'll be bullied again. Even when she wasn't at school many ponies gave her looks and sometimes even denied her service. Well, at least now Twilight has her friends, Celestia thought solemnly. Celestia looked back at the school group and saw that the three fillies were fighting. Their teacher stopped them and said to the three something before they all moved to the next statue. But then Celestia noticed something. She saw a small crack appearing on Discord's stone chest. More cracks appeared on Discord with a dim dark red glowing from the cracks. Cracks now covered the entire statue. But then, the statue was gone with only crumbs of stone left on the pedestal "Oh no," were the only words that came from Celestia's mouth. "Spike! Wake up!" "Mmmm, five more minutes..." "C'mon Spike. Rise and Shine!" Spike partly opened his eyes and groggily sat up on his basket. He looked up and saw a purple pony with a dark blue mane with a pink highlight streaking through it. "Gah!" Spike shot up and backed away from the pony, "Who are you and what are you doing here!?" "Calm down, Spike! It's just me!" said the pony. Spike recognized the pony's voice. He steadied his breathing and analyzed the pony further. "Twilight?" "Yup, it's me!" Spike was confused. Last time he saw her she was the mismatched creature that he knew and loved. "Twilight... Why are you a pony?" Spike asked. "Well... recently I've been working on a transformation spell that would turn me into a pony!" Twilight explained. "I can see that but, why?" "So I can finally fit in!" Twilight shouted gleefully. Spike just looked at her with sympathy. Although Twilight never showed it, Spike knew how she felt about herself. She looked at her self as a monster. An abomination that could never fit in to society. "Twilight..." Spike said. "You know you don't have to do this, right? You have your friends! They don't make fun of you for what you are. I don't think they even care that you look like an 8 foot noodle with horns" Twilight winced at that last comment but ignored it with a sigh. " I guess you're right Spike." "You bet I am." Twilight paced around for a bit, stumbling a few times. "Can I at least stay like this for the rest of the day? I worked so hard on the spell, and I don't want to let it go to waste." Spike sighed at this request. "Fine, but only for today!" The purple pony pranced around the room repeatedly shouting "Yes" until she tripped and fell flat on her face. "I'm okay." Twilight said with a dazed look on her face. "So what's first on the agenda?" Spike asked. "Hmmm, how about we go to Sweet Apple Acres? I would love to try out applebucking!" "Sure, why not?" Twilight walked over to the door and attempted to open it with her hooves. Failing to open the door with her hooves, Twilight switched over to using her mouth instead. Spike seeing Twilight struggle to open the door, he moved in front of Twilight and opened the door for her. "Thanks," Twilight said sheepishly. Twilight stepped out of the library, ready to experience the world as something else. She scanned the town she loved, smiling at the ponies walking past her. She looked up at the sky and noticed something peculiar... Spike squeezed past Twilight and looked up at Twilight. "What are you looking at Twilight?" Spike asked. "Um... Spike, were the clouds always pink?" "Huh? What are you talking abou--" Spike's pupils shrunk to pinpricks. "Woah, that's weird." "Hmmm. Hey look! There's Rainbow Dash! Maybe she can tell us what's going on." Twilight exclaimed. "Hey, Rainbow Dash!" The blue pegasus halted, searching for the source of the call of her name. She located the source and flew down to Twilight. "Hey Spike! How are ya? Who's your friend here?" Rainbow Dash asked. "That's Twilight," Spike answered. Rainbow Dash gawked at the purple pony. "Twilight!? Why are you a pony?" "I have my reasons..." Twilight said sheepishly. "Do you know why the clouds are pink?" "Oh, those? I dunno why the clouds are pink, it just... happened. But I'll get rid of them!" "Okay, good luck!" Twilight said. "Won't need it!" Rainbow Dash replied. Rainbow Dash charged straight at the cloud, ready to bust it. She came in contact with the cloud and grabbed it, only to stick to the cloud. Rainbow Dash noticed that the scent of the cloud was familiar. She shook the cloud off and tasted the cloud's remains that stuck on her body. "Cotton Candy?" Rainbow Dash said confused. Suddenly a swarm of clouds zipped around Rainbow Dash. "Woah! Hey what's going on!?" A cloud hovered above Rainbow Dash and . "Hey! Its not supposed to rain till tomorrow! You can't just--" Chocolate milk rain showered Rainbow Dash interrupting her protest. "And you did..." The cloud that rained over Rainbow Dash flew away from her, aggravating the blue pegasus. "Hey, I didn't tell you to go anywhere!" Rainbow Dash cried out, chasing the cotton candy cloud. The swarm of clouds bundled together, chasing Rainbow Dash whilst pouring chocolate milk rain on to the land. Spike, who had observed the events that had just transpired asked Twilight "Should we do something?" Spike looked to his side and noticed that Twilight had disappeared. He looked around trying to see where she had gone until he heard a 'pop' sound behind him. Spike turned around and saw Twilight still as a pony holding a book in her mouth. "What did you say Spike?" Twilight said, dropping the book. "Um, I asked if we should do something about... that," Spike asked pointing at the swarm of pink clouds raining chocolate milk. "Well yes, of course we're gonna do something about it," Twilight said rolling her eyes. "Now come on, we have a storm to stop." It was a sunny day at Sweet Apple Acres. Big Macintosh was bucking the apple trees, Granny Smith was inside cooking the family some lunch, and Applejack was harvesting corn in the cornfields. Applejack grabbed the corn from the stalk and threw it into the wagon behind her. She went on to continue this routine until she heard the cracking of a storm. She spun her head towards the source of the sound and saw Rainbow Dash chasing a pink cloud raining brown rain with a horde of similar clouds also raining brown rain tailing her. "What the... Is that chocolate milk rain?" Applejack muttered. "Rainbow Dash! Get down here!" Rainbow Dash hearing Applejack's request, flew down towards her. "Rainbow Dash, what's going on with this rain? I mean chocolate milk? I mean chocolate milk rain?!" Applejack interrogated. "Turns out there's crazy weather all over Equestria! Cloudsdale is getting soaked by a major cola storm right now! But don't worry. I'm not leaving you until I get control of Ponyville!" Rainbow Dash answered. Rainbow Dash flew off, attempting to stop the storm leaving Applejack surrounded by mountains of popcorn. Suddenly Applejack was assaulted in the face by popcorn, knocking her back on to the soil. Meanwhile, Pinkie Pie who had unknowingly strolled all the way to Sweet Apple Acres while trying to get the chocolate milk in her mouth, saw the sea of popcorn and dived in, submerging herself inside the salty goodness, occasionally popping back up to drink the chocolate milk rain. "Now why would you wanna stop this?" Pinkie Pie said in response to Rainbow Dash's earlier statement. Rarity, who was wearing a purple raincoat with a umbrella attached to a saddle fastened on to her, walked towards Applejack, engulfed in the sea of popcorn. "Ahem. I heard about your troubles, Applejack, and I came to see if there's anything I can do without getting wet. Or dirty. Or out from under my umbrella." All of a sudden, the apples in Sweet Apple Acres enlarged ten times their size, causing the tree trunks to bend over from the weight of the apples. The critters that often harassed Sweet Apple Acres in the past saw the sudden growth of apples, took advantage of it and pounced on the apples, taking huge bites in to the sweet juicy fruit. More critters soon ran rampant on the farm, some of them being brought by Fluttershy who was taking her animals out on a walk. Applejack seeing her fruits being devoured, quickly became irritated and called upon Fluttershy for help. "Fluttershy! Do somethin'!" "Now, Angel, you really shouldn't–" In a flash, every single bunny's legs transformed into long skinny hooves. "No! It's not possible! I must be seeing things!" Sweet Apple Acres was now in total chaos. Twilight and Spike were standing on a nearby hill, scanning the farm, dumbfounded at what they were seeing. "Sweet Celestia! What the hay happened here!?" Spike shouted. "I don't know Spike, but hopefully this spell can stop all of this." Twilight said, reading over the spell in her book again. "Alright Spike, this is a pretty complicated spell so I'm going to have to turn back into my usual self to cast it." As Twilight was casting the spell to turn her back to 'normal', Pinkie popped her head back out of the sea of popcorn and saw Twilight. Pinkie dashed towards her thinking she was somepony new. "Hi there!" Pinkie said excitedly. "Gah!" Twilight shrieked as she fell on to her haunches. "Are you new here? I mean you have to be new since I know everypony in Ponyville and I don't know you so that means you're not from here. Oooh! I'm gonna have to throw you a superduper awesome welcome party later! Buuuut right now I'm busy with drinking all this chocolate milk rain! Oh, you should join me! I mean you might get a little dirty but still--" Pinkie Pie trailed on and on as she pressed Twilight on the ground. Twilight looked at Spike with pleading eyes to get Pinkie off of her. "Ummm Pinkie? Do you mind getting off Twilight?" Spike asked. "Wait," Pinkie pointed at the purple unicorn. "SHE'S TWILIGHT!?" "Pretty much." Pinkie Pie gasped and pounced on Twilight again. "OH MY GOSH! Now we can do pony things together like a pony! Like baking cupcakes, decorating cupcakes, eating cupcakes, and getting stomachaches from eating too many cupcakes! I mean it'll kinda be the same but still it'll be so much fun!" "Yeah... it'll be great," Twilight said, forcing a smile, trying to get Pinkie Pie off of her so she can stop the chaos happening around the two. "Heeeeeey... why are you a pony? Oh, did Princess Celestia give you another assignment and turned you into a pony? Were you trying out one of the spells in that dusty old book I found locked away behind a bookcase? Or maybe you were feeling really really insecure about yourself so you spent weeks making a spell that turns you into a pony so no one looks at you funny?" Twilight winced at the last question. "Whaaaaat? Noooo, I'd never do such a thing like that. I'm just testing a spell that's all." said Twilight. "Do you mind getting off of me?" Meanwhile Rarity, Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy were still trying to stop the mayhem happening around them. Applejack noticing that Pinkie Pie had disappeared, she looked around to see where she had gone, finding her on top of a hill talking to another pony. "Who's that pony Pinkie is talking to?" Applejack asked. Rarity still idling around under her umbrella replied to Applejack's question. "Hmm, I believe that's Twilight, Applejack." "What? No that can't be possible. She's a... um... something... Point is she's not a pony!" "Well yes that may be true but she's somepony with outstanding magical capabilities, I'm pretty sure she can turn herself into a pony. Besides she has the exact same mane as Twilight's. It's pretty obvious no?" Applejack looked at the pony pinned by Pinkie Pie again. Sure enough the pony did share many features with Twilight. Well pony-like features. "I guess you're right Rarity. She does somewhat look like Twilight. Hey, maybe she can help us!" "Hey Pinkie Pie! Can you bring Twilight down here!?" Applejack shouted. "Okie dokie lokie!" Pinkie Pie hopped off Twilight and rolled down the hill. Twilight and Spike soon followed and slid down the hill. "How did you know it was me?" Twilight asked. "Deary, it's pretty obvious that it's you. I mean, I don't think anyone has a mane quite like yours. But I do want to know why you're a pony," said Rarity. "Well..." Without warning, chocolate milk poured down on them, soaking them in the liquid. "But I suppose now is not the time to talk about this. Do you have any ideas on how to stop all of this? I'd like to go home soon before the chocolate milk makes me sticky," Rarity said, disgusted by the sweet liquid. "Well there's a spell in this book that might be able to stop all of this but due to the spell's complexity, I have to turn back into my usual self which I was going to do until Pinkie interrupted me," Twilight explained. Pinkie just kept grinning. "Well get on with it! I can't stand seeing mah crops being ruined any longer!" Applejack shouted. "Here goes..." Twilight begun casting the spell to reverse her transformation and a purple ethereal ribbon engulfed her. Until suddenly there was a flash and Twilight, back to her usual self fell down on to the ground. "Oof! Well that could have gone better." "Look! Twilight's back!" said Pinkie Pie. "Alright let's fix this mess," Twilight stood up, tall as a tree and started casting the next spell. She closed her eyes, putting all her concentration on to the spell until once again all the chaos was reversed in a literal flash. "Hey! What happened?" Pinkie Pie complained. Twilight opened her eyes and saw that everything had gone back to normal. "But how? I didn't even finish casting the spell," Twilight muttered. "Aw yeah! Nice job Twilight!" Rainbow Dash praised. Soon enough, everyone except Pinkie congratulated Twilight in stopping the madness. After a few minutes of celebration Applejack put a hoof on Twilight's back. "So now that's over with, there's something that ah'd like to know," "What is it?" Twilight asked. "Why were you a pony?" Applejack questioned. "Oh um... Well you see-" Before Twilight could finish, Spike belched out a scroll with his fire breath. Twilight picked up the scroll and read through it. "What does it say?" Rarity asked curiously. "C'mon, girls. Princess Celestia wants to see us all in Canterlot immediately!" "I wonder why she wants to see us." "I don't know but it looks like its an emergency." Hearing this, Pinkie sprung back up, back to her cheerful nature and hopped towards the train station. "C'mon everyone! Adventure awaits us!" As the six headed towards the station, Twilight swore she heard a cackle behind them.
