Rainboom of the century

by Numie

To the moon!

Celestia slowly hoisted the sun into the sky, she sighed happily, she just started another bright and sunny day. The ponies of Canterlot and beyond began to stir to them today was just an ordinary day. Luna smiled beside her, tapping her sister lightly. Celestia nodded to her, they both had done their hard work until the days' end. They returned to the halls of the castle, there were princess things to be done. Ponyville. In a cloud house high above the ground slept Rainbow Dash, she snored, her curtains drawn to help keep out beauty sleep ruining sunlight. Today her plan was to rest after the vigorous weather pony hijinks that happened yesterday, who knew that some clutz of a weather factory worker would empty a winters worth of snow on the town due to "misunderstood orders".

Rainbow snorted, rolling onto her back. Thanks to her pig like snoring the sounds of knocking on her front door were drowned out. A faint Rainbow Dash! sounded from outside, it was none other than book horse. Twilight looked confused knocking again on the cloudy door. It wasn't like Rainbow not to answer, or sleep in for that matter. Whatever she was doing she needed to stop, the weather ponies needed her speed once again.

"Rainbow Dash?" Twilight called to no answer. "Rainbow Dash the weather ponies are requesting your assistance!"

Still nothing. The purple princess huffed in fustration, her horn glowed, magic encased her and she slipped through the door. The home looked like it usually did. Wonderbolt posters and trophies lined the walls, rainbow knick knacks here and there. Twilight started for the stairs, humming her way up towards the hall way. She trotted to Rainbow's room, slipping through that door as well. There Rainbow laid, sleeping soundly but not very angelically. The princess crept up to her friends side placing a hoof on the soft bed spread.

"Rainbow?" Twilight whispered, trying not to startle the surprisingly jumpy Rainbow Dash. After waiting for a few seconds Twilight began to lightly jab her. "Rainbow the others can't wait forever."

"Nnggh," moaned Rainbow, not wanting to awaken. "Just a few more minutes eh?"

"We don't have 'a few more minutes' Rainbow, the cloud clearing crew need the skies cleared for the Tomato Festival." Twilight informed her, trying to sit her up. "We Erugh, need you up..now!" Twilight managed to say while trying to push Rainbow up with her fore hooves.

"Why would you host a festival for the worst fruit ever created?" Rainbow murmured drunkenly.

"W-what?" Twilight caught her self stuttering. "Tomatoes are the best fruit ever created, how could you say such a thing? I'll have you know that this festival is celebrating almost all 7500 varieties of tomato, and I want to see them." Once again Twilight went into a ranting frenzy.

"Mmmmm...no." Rainbow said simply, shifting her weight onto Twilight's fore hooves making Twilight gasp as her hooves were smashed under Rainbow. Rainbow ignored the pleas for her to get up, just laying there like a disobedient foal.

Twilight whispered some thing un-princess-like, opening her jaws in preperation for her next course of action. She growled ferociously clamping down on Rainbow's fore leg. Rainbow let out an un-godly shriek of pure terror, leaping up like a rabbit with moon shoes. She sunk her fore hooves into the cloud roof, shivering as the burning pain slowly subsided. Twilight tried to shake her hooves widly to wake them from the coma Rainbow put them in. Pins and needles, Pins and needles. Rainbow slowly let her grip loosen, falling onto the plush cushion of a bed below her. Her gaze shifted to Twilight, her lips flattened into a straight line. The princess smiled as blood returned to the tips of her hooves, a soothing and comforting coolness ran through them.

"Alrighty, ready for work?" Twilight smiled innocently, as if she didn't just scar her friend with her metal clothespin-like bite.

Rainbow soared through the sky, one last cloud sat in her path. She destroyed it with a quick buck, wiping her brow after a job well done. She turned around to see a mare waving at her while she rested on a cloud.

"Alright that's the last cloud," sighed a light orange pegasus, as Rainbow slowly hovered over to her. "Thanks for the help Dash, without you here we barely got anything done."

That's true. If it weren't for Rainbow the weather ponies wouldn't even have half of the sky cleared. Thanks to all that snow melting yesterday, the sky was covered in big white clouds that would take a team of weather ponies to destroy.

"Yeah, yeah, enjoy your devil fruit con." Rainbow scoffed beginning her flight home, even though she had been a big help she didn't care much. The only thing on this mares mind was her sweet, sweet bed

"Rainbow Dash!" A squeaky voice rang in the blue mares ears. She slowly turned, an orange dot waved at her from the ground.

"How does she even yell that loud?" Rainbow scowled, knowing that when Scootaloo saw her, she'd be up and about all day.

She sighed, flying down to meet the filly below. Rainbow didn't fly very fast though, she wasn't as excited to see Scootaloo as she normally was. She wanted to tell Scoots that she wanted to rest instead of doing more flying training, but it would be a challenge with such a persistent foal. She landed just a few feet from Scootaloo, the filly had to trot the rest of the way to meet her. She was greeted with a hug, as per usual.

"Rainbow Dash, I did some thinking last night..and..I wanted to ask. How many ponies saw your first sonic rainboom?" Scootaloo asked, her eyes seemed to sparkle. What did this foal have in mind?

"I'd say everypony in Equestria, y'know since the others go their cutiemarks 'cuz of me." Rainbow answered, taking a hoof to the back of her own head scratching lightly. That sentence never really came to mind. As a foal, she was just surprsed that the ponies of Cloudsdale saw, no other town or city had crossed her mind.

"Well," Scootaloo started, stepping closer to Rainbow. Her voice turned to a whisper as she spoke again. "What if everypony and everything saw your rainboom?"

"I guess I'd be..." Rainbow paused. What if everypony in the world saw? Would she be tracked down and awarded? Would she be a world renown flyer? Would she

"A world famous Wonderbolt who single hoove-dly gave every thing in existence a show to remember!" Scootaloo exclaimed, hovering with a vigorious flap of her wings. "Everything in this world would know your name! Just imagine the chanting! Rainbow Dash! Rainbow Dash!"

Scootaloo was feeding Rainbow's ego again, as she always did. Rainbow could sit an listen to Scootaloo tell her about how famous she would be for hours. They'd sit and talk about being commanders of the Wonderbolts while they shared a oat burger, or when they would snag a cupcake at the SCC. Scootaloo shook Rainbow from her version of a wet dream, awaiting an answer. The cyan mare simply tugged Scootaloo to her side. She smirked, an idea popped into her head.

"Well, what if I did a rainboom from space?" Raindow suggested.

"Yes!" Scootaloo cheered.

"No." Twilight said sternly, grabbing a ripe tomato from the table in from of them. "You two are absolute "

"Geniuses?" Rainbow chimed in.

"More like asses." Twilight whispered, biting into the red fruit. She chewed and swallowed before saying. "There's no way I'm going to 'cook' up a spell that flings you into space."

"But Twilight.." Scootaloo whined, Rainbow's bottom lip quivering. "If we do this, Rainbow could get the fame she's always wanted!"

"Look, if I send you up there, it's certin doom. Luna might have been fine up there, but you won't be." Twilight stated, along with angry tomato munching.

"How so?" Rainbow whimpered like a foal.

"You'd get stuck up there Rainbow," Twilight gulped down more of the tomato. "There's no way you could get a good flying speed with no gravity."

The two pegasi sighed, disapointed. They started their tail-drooping trek away when Twilight said.

"And don't ask Celestia either."

"Why would we ask Celes " Rainbow's mind jolted. Celestia had the power! She could banish her to the moon and Rainbow Dash could use that as her starting point.

She picked Scootaloo up, sneaking away from Twilight. The foal was about to protest when a hoof was slapped over her muzzle.

"Scootaloo, we're going to Canterlot." Rainbow chuckled with a devious smile.
