Rosey to The Heart

Back to Reality

"Welcome back to my wonderful side of doom. Most of you know the drill. Take the form, make parent's sign it, bring it back. Got it? Great. Now go read a book for the next hour and don't disturb me." said the old Mrs. Polmare.

"What has it been, three years? Why do we have the same math teacher again? And we have the same exact classmates as the last few years. Hell, we all know everyone's secrets and crushes. Wouldn't it be better if a hot british stallion was teaching us?" Poly smirked. She nudged her close friend and winked at her. Her mind was never up to any good, as it always contained guys or popularity. Poly Granite is high society gold and a pure example of what ponies call a "mare" today. Although, she was fun loving to those she cared for, her kindness could be a bit more polished.

Iris giggled lightly, "Sure, but come on. How likely is it that someone cute can be our teacher? Most of them are older than my own grandma!"

She and Poly shared a laugh. These two mares have been together since foal school. Always at each others side, even in the worst scenario. Nobody ever joined their side of the world. And nobody ever wanted to either. No one ever questioned their weird inside jokes. No one sat with them at lunch. No one even cared. Most mares despise how Poly always hung out with an "average" pony. But in the end, they were always attached. And that was enough for them.

Suddenly, a knock came onto the door. Everyone stared. A new classmate? But that wasn't possible. Was it?

Mrs. Polmare opened the door and grunted. "Mind explaining why you are late on the first day of class?"

It was a stallion, and tall one too. His voice was smooth and cold. "Actually yes. I do mind. Now can I get the hell inside?"

Everyone gasped in awe. No one disrespected a teacher in such a manner. Especially in the beginning of a new year. "Way to make a first impression," Poly whispered. Iris nodded in agreement.

Mrs. Polmare was outraged. She looked like she was about to burst into a million flames. "DO NOT MESS WITH ME YOUNG COLT. GET IN YOUR SEAT."

He replied by rolling his eyes. He entered the silent room and took his seat, glaring at all the other ponies. There were quite different responses to his arrival. Some mares blushed at his attractive appearance (Including Poly). Others gave back a sneer in hatred. Most stallions laughed quietly, already ready to start a fight with him. Iris just stared. She didn't know why and yet, she stared.

The obviously angered pony caught her eyes. "And what are you looking at, huh?" He said with a voice almost up to a yell.

"N-nothing!" she replied quietly.

"It's alright Iris. He's just another cutie that acts like a big shot," her friend reassured. "But you'll never know! Maybe he'll be somebody's prince in this class!" She smiled with glee, as her eyes sparkled. Iris grinned lightly.

Apparently, the new student's name was Breeze Cleff. And his mane hobby was to... fix his hair. Oh, and of course, throwing out insults. But Iris couldn't stop taking glances back and forth at his hair fixing. She didn't know why but her eyes just got a mind of it's own. Maybe because his hair looked so soft? Or maybe because there was no reason.

"So? What's up with you trying to check out Hottie McMean? Is he really your type?" Poly poked the mare's cheek. Iris got flustered and shook her head. She hid her face under her blue mane with purple streaks.

"Its just his hair... It looks so... fluffy!" She muttered. Poly was giggling her face off at the comment.

"Iris, I can't believe you would fall that easily for someone beca-"

"I'm not falling for him! He's the one I'd like to avoid the most out of all the ponies here!" She interrupted.

"Sure you are. But I'm telling you right now, I think he has his eyes on someone else," Poly pointed at a mare with a light green coat and tinted purple colored ears. Also known as miss perfect. "But we already know how that's going to turn out."

Ring! went the bell. "Did class go by that quick?" Iris asked.

"Maybe. You have Theatre next right? Have fun with your drama friends!" her friend replied, sticking her tongue out. She ran into the crowd of ponies who were trying to find their classes in the hallway and Iris took her own path towards where she needed to go.

------------------

Most of the day went by quick. Being the first day, most teachers just introduced you to the class and let you hang out for the rest of each hour, allowing major time for people to catch up with each other after summer.

Breeze Cleff wasn't anything ponies expected. If anything, he's one of the largest bullies in the school now. And the most popular. Iris avoided him, trying not to say anything that would get a rude remark thrown at her. On the other hoof, Poly went all out, making a debate about everything with him.

What a great first day.

It was finally time for everyone to go home. Poly, as always, took the taxi. Iris lived near by so she walked.

It was nice to be alone and to be the only one who went down the road of Fillydelphia. Nobody disrupted Iris as the trees would sway in the wind. And the grass would be greener than ever at that time of day. Iris took a moment to breathe in the brisk air. So peaceful. Or so she thought.

"You go through this road also?" A familiar voice called.

Iris turned around for a second, hoping it's not who she thought it was. She was looking at the same stallion who she sought to avoid the entire year. Oh crap.

"Y-Yes..." She murmered in reply.

"Well that's just great. I'm going to have to deal with a quiet BS mare all year. Who would've known? Maybe I'll even hate her even more for this! Maybe I'll-

"I have a voice, you know. And I intend to use it when necessary, If you don't mind." Iris growled. She gave a sinister glare at him with anger, boiling in her head.

"Excuse me?" He came closer to Iris, almost towering over her with his height. "I don't give any crap about what 'voice' you use. It's not like you actually have one!" He chuckled, rolling his eyes at her.

Iris's mind was burnt. She grabbed her saddlebag and through it at his face.

"YOU LITTLE-"

She picked up her bag and sarcastically frowned. "Oops... Did that hurt? Sorry! Not really..."

"WHAT THE HELL? YOU CAN'T JUST DO THAT!!!"

"What did you say? I can't hear you over your ego." Iris finally said. Then, she took off.
