//------------------------------// // Finding the Light // Story: Ori in Ponyville: The Small Light // by Shadow Fantasy //------------------------------// Fluttershy was sitting outside, watching the stars in the night. Her nocturnal friends suggested her to try it out. It was so peaceful, the crickets chirping there song and the dazzling night sky, glittered with stars. A cool breeze swept across here causing her to shiver. She curled up in her blankets she laid across the ground. Her yes began to droop as she let out a tired yawn before... she saw a glowing white leaf. Wait, a glowing white leaf? It danced in the wind, twirling and looping. It flew over Fluttershy and headed toward the Everfree forest. Fluttershy watched it descend into the trees. The Everfree was a dangerous place. Things happened in there without warning, much like Pinkie Pie except, much more hostile. Fluttershy crawled out from under blankets. She had been in there before, but she always had someone with her. This time though, she was on her own. She wanted to retreat back under her blankets, but her curiosity took over. She took one shaky step. The Leaf was not far, and it was not hard to find because of its magical glow. When Fluttershy was almost in reaching distance of the leaf, it let a blinding glow that could be seen from Ponyville. Fluttershy shielded her eyes with her hooves. The next thing she heard was a quiet whimper. Fluttershy opened her eyes and looked around to find the sound, but what she saw surprise her. The leaf was no longer a leaf at all. It was a tiny white creature and shown a dim white glow. It's eyes were black except for its two white pupils. It seemed to have four ears, two large ones lower on the sides of its head, and two small ones on the top. The little white furry creature was stuck in thorn bush with ugly gnarled branches. Fluttershy stared in awe. "Don't worry little guy, I will get you out," Fluttershy said in her usual soft voice. She carefully tugged at the branches of the bush, they snapped and popped. She repeated this a few more times until she was able to reach it. "Come here. I will bring you to my home so you can get some rest." It stood up from its crouching position and jumped out, impressively high too for being so small. It landed on Fluttershy lightly, it curled up between her wings. It let out a small multi toned squeak of thanks before curling up on her and went to sleep. "Your welcome." Fluttershy smiled and walked back towards her cottage. Ori POV I woke up in a warm little house. The ground below me felt soft and squishy. I stood up and stretched out my arms and looked around me. The thing I stood on was something that I have never seen before, it had arm rests, three square cushion things where I was sitting, and some more upright that my back was against. It's not surprising I don't know what it is, I can't seem to remember anything except for last night, and a name. Ori, that's right. I wasn't sure what it was meant for, unless it is my name. I jumped down from the... thing, and began looking around. There were a lot of other creatures in here. Big ones with brown fur. Small ones with wings and came in various colors. I my stomach growled, I was really hungry. I don't even remember last time I ate, or if I've ever eaten before. There was some orange fruit growing on a small tree. I pulled on it until the the fruit stem snapped. The tree shook and another fruit fell off, hitting me on my head. "Ow." I glared at the tree. I picked up the fruit I dropped and took a bite out of it. it tasted... AMAZING. I quickly ate the rest of it and grabbed another one. I tossed it in the air and and caught it in my mouth. Its juice flowed down my throat. I have never eaten something so good. "You're an early bird aren't you," some said behind me. I dropped the fruit I was holding and dashed behind the pot. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." I peaked out from behind the pot, it was that nice pony who saved me last night. I slowly came out from behind the pot. She smiled at me. "Come here girl," she said. I slowly walked over to her. "You look a lot better now than when I found in the bushes." I smiled and nodded. I was about to eat another fruit when I heard something bang against the door. "Fluttershy, are you home?" My ears perked up, I was ready to move at any moment. "It's alright... um... what's your name?" the shy pony asked me. What was my name? I guess my name was Ori after all. "Ori," is said, though, I doubt she understood me. The only communication I had, I didn't even know if it was communication at all. For all I know, I could be making up silly noises. "Squeak? Okay, got it." I gave her a deadpanned look. Out of all the possible name, it was 'squeak.' "I'm only kidding Ori." Okay so she can understand me. "Fluttershy?" the things outside called again. "Come in." The door creaked open, a purple pony with a single horn and wings. "Oh hey Twilight, what brings you over?" "There is a party for princess Luna's birthday and we were all invited. Do you want to come?" "Of course Twilight, why wouldn't I." "Great! We need to be there in a couple days for preparations so we have time to get packed, get presents, and..." Twilight noticed me hiding behind Fluttershy. "Fluttershy, what is that?" Twilight asked curiously. "Huh?" Fluttershy looked back at me. "Oh, that's Ori. I found her in the forest. It's alright Ori, she's my friend, you can trust her." She nudged me will her hind leg. I stumbled forwards and looked up. Twilight was smiling at me softly. "H-hi," I managed to say. "Aw, aren't you a cute little... Fluttershy, what is she any way?" "I don't know. I just found her, it was so strange to because when I saw her, she was just a leaf." "A leaf?" "A glowing white leaf." "Then it turned into a small little animal. I couldn't leave it in the forest alone, so I took it in." "I've never heard of anything like it. Well, I should go Fluttershy, Rarity wants me to try on some dresses. She probably has quite a few, she also may have some for you." "Thanks Twilight for letting know. I will be sure to go visit Rarity as soon as I can." Visit Rarity? She's leaving, did I do something wrong. I don't want to be alone. My thoughts buzzed around in my head and I started panicking. "Goodbye Twilight." "Bye Fluttershy." The door closed. Around now other creatures were waking up too, they all stared at me. I shrunk away, but they were everywhere. Fluttershy seemed to notice this and stood over me. I felt less afraid now. "Alright guys, this is our new guest, her name is Ori. She will be staying with us for as long as she wants. I want every one to welcome her." The first one was a little white bunny. He did not seem pleased, but the other animals didn't seem to mind, yet he was the first to come up and introduce himself. "My name is Angel." I held out my paw. "My name is..." "Ori, I already know." He pushed my paw aside. I looked down sadly. Did I do something wrong? "It's alright Ori, he is always a bit grumpy," Fluttershy told me. That didn't make me feel any better. Fluttershy left the room and outside. "It's time for breakfast everyone," she said in her usual quiet tone. A small brown squirrel climbed down from the window and came up to me. "Ori right?" I nodded. "My name is Nutty," she said in a very high paced and high pitched voice. She held her hand. "Nice to meet you Nutty." "It's always nice to meet new people," she said. My eyes drifted to Angel. "Well, almost always. Don't worry, he is usually like that. I remember the first time I came here. It took a while, but he will grow on ya, you'll see." She dashed off towards Fluttershy. That is when I knew that Nutty and I would become good friends. "You coming Ori?" "I already ate." "Well, at least come hang out with us." "Sure."
