Jan, 1st, The 1000th Year of the Celestial Era.
Canterlot, Equestria.
5:45, A.M. Canterlot's Royal Throne Room.
Princess Celestia sat upon her royal throne, an air of calmness about her regal feature's. Dawn was fast approaching outside her castle windows. But she remained firm. Firm in the face of what was to come. She knew that no matter what her faithful student would succeed.
She had already been given new's of an archaeological research team finding the seventh element in the frozen north's. She immediately had it shipped to ponyville. Now all that was left was to give her pony's the time they needed to find the remaining six.
"AHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!" The evil laughter bounced all through out the throne room, bouncing off of the high vaulted ceilings and archway's making the villain seem more menacing than she was. Celestia still held her composure, not even batting so much as an eyelash.
"Oh come now Tia, is that anyway to welcome your sister?" Nightmares voice seemed to come from everywhere at once.
"After all its only been a thousand year's since we last saw each other." Celestia still did not want to respond but she knew she had to give twilight and the other elements more time.
"What do you want Nightmare Moon?" She said her voice calm and level.
"Want? What i want Celestia!" Her voice continued to project itself louder and louder as a dark cloud began to form in the middle of throne room.
"Is to rule equestria under eternal night as it's queen!" BOOM. As Nightmare Moon finished her sentence a loud explosion ripped through the castle blowing out all the window's within.
The shock wave rippled through the throne room shaking the last few shard's of glass loose from the blown out stained glass window's. Nightmare Moon now stood in the middle of the room, a small dark cloud wafting around her like a demonic aura. She slowly trotted up to Celestia, a devious grin on her face.
"Oh how long its been Tia!"
"You shall refer to me as Celestia, Villain." Celestia's face hardened into a scowl. "Only my sister may call be by that name."
"Oh boo hoo, Celestia. Cry me a river." Nightmare snorted in disgust.
"You are just as weak as the last time we fought, big sis." Celestia remained upon her throne glaring at Nightmare.
"In fact if i remember correctly the only reason you won our last battle was with the help of those silly little necklace's of yours." Nightmare stopped and looked around the throne room. It had changed little in the last thousand year's. But one thing did stand out. In fact at seeing the one thing not present Nightmare's face twisted into the last thing Celestia expected to see, a smile.
"Well, well, we have been busy haven't we Princess!" Nightmare's smile got wider.
"So tell me were are those little trinket's?" Celestia's glare faltered, but a second later it was back.
"There are hidden Nightmare. Somewhere where only there true wielder's may find them."
"Really?" Nightmare pondered this while Celestia continued to stall for time.
"Face it Nightmare you will never rule equestria as queen."-Celestia stood from her throne, her horn burning with the fire of a thousand sun's. -"For even if you were to take the throne from me here and now there would be pony's out there with the power to stop you." Celestia Stood tall, intimidating and ready for a fight.
Nightmare stood in the middle of the throne room contemplating her option's. Then something clicked in her brain. And she began to laugh, an evil, maniacal laugh that pierced one to the bone and beyond.
"Oh Celestia. For all of you'r years and wisdom you are hardly superior in intellect to me." This didn't faze Celestia.
"You see Tia. I am Nightmare Moon. And i am Princess Luna." This caused Celestia's confidence to falter.
"Don't." The Princess's mane started to glow a golden color.
"Do you know what that mean's sister?"
"Don't." Celestia's purple eyes flashed a brief orange.
"That mean's that i know every one of your little trick's big sis."
"I SAID DON'T!" Celestia couldn't take it anymore. Her very fur burst into flame's as hot as the sun itself. Her throne was vaporized, leaving behind nothing but a pool of molten gold. What little liquid remained flashed into plasma as it spilled down the stone step's coming into contact with Celestia's solar infused hooves. All composure was gone as Princess Celestia addressed Nightmare Moon.
"Don't you dare call yourself Princess Luna!." Celestia's Royal Canterlot Voice boomed through out the castle.
"You are Nothing like her monster! You are a parasite! And like all parasite's you can be purged from the body!" Celestia was done talking.
She lowered her horn and sent a bolt of white hot plasma flying towards Nightmare. Nightmare deftly dodged the solar projectile, becoming a cloud of smoke. She circled around The Solar Princess and re materialized, her horn at the ready to cast a spell. She got a shot of her own off sending a dark ball of lightning and shadow at celestia's exposed back. Celestia however was not as defenseless as Nightmare thought. For only a feet away from Celestia Nightmare's spell hit a shield of solar energy and magic.
"You still have a lot to learn Nightmare." Celestia responded to Nightmare's attack by disappearing in a flash of light. Nightmare was momentarily blinded by the sudden flash. She shook her head to get rid of the sun spot's. When she opened them the throne room was empty. She chuckled.
"Is the great and powerful Celestia scarred of me!?" Silence fallowed Nightmare's taunt.
"Oh come now Celestia. Surly you can do better than that!?" Nightmare stomped a hoof into the ground cracking the stone floor.
Her answer came in the form of a bright light above her head. As she looked up she got a face full of solar energy. She screamed and reeled back from the attack. However the assault did not stop there. Celestia continued to blast Nightmare with her solar ray's.
Then she unfurled her wing's and began to fen then towards Nightmare. With the tips of her Primary feathers engulfed in solar fire and the continuous flapping Celestia soon had tendril's of white hot fire extending from her feather tip's. She used these new appendages to lash out at Nightmare. Under this combined attack Nightmare could not move an inch. Soon Nightmare's power began to fade.
She was loosing control of her vessel. She could not let this happen. She had to think. There must be a way to stop her attack even for a little while. Her face grew into a wicked smile underneath Celestia's barrage.
Celestia continued her attack, not ceasing to deal out swift justice to the being that had both her and her sister so much heartache. But then she heard something that made her heart freeze. She heard crying. Specifically the sound of her sister crying in pain. She ceased her attack instantly, letting her flames, and furry die down. As her vision cleared of her anger, she could have sworn that her eye's were playing trick's on her.
"No. no. no it cannot be!" She wailed. There on the ground in a heap covered in burn's and bruises was her sister. Celestia had lost all rational control of her body. She ran to her sister's side and began to hug her uncontrollably.
"Sister!" She cried. As she looked upon her form Celestia could see the damage from her attack on her sister.
"Oh Luna i'm so sorry!" She wailed.
"Don't be." Her sister calmly said.
"Wha--But sister are you not hurt?" Celestia looked into her sister's eye's and only saw blackness. Then she realized her mistake to late. Luna brought a hoof down upon Celestia's forehead knocking her to the cold marble floor. Celestia was now dazed, confused and in pain. Princess Luna stood up panting from the exertion of weathering her sister's solar power. Her form changed into that of Nightmare Moon once more.
"AHAHAHAHAHAH!!! You Fool. How could you possibly fall for such a ruse!? Has time addled your mind sister!? HAHA!" Nightmare stood over Celestia,, who was having a hard time getting off of the floor.
"Oh Stay down there!" Nightmare punctuated her statement with a hoof to celestia's face.
Celestia flinched from the strike and began to gag as she tasted copper in her mouth. Nightmare stood over her sister, pure hatred in her eye's. As Celestia looked at her sister, Nightmare saw something in her eye's that sent her over the edge. She saw pity.
Nightmare's lunar aura flared to life. She used her telekinesis to pick up her sister and throw her across the room. Then she picked her up and slammed her into the ground, then a pillar, then the wall. She continued this unrelenting beat down until Celestia stopped Twitching from each impact. Finally Nightmare slammed her sister onto the ground and she was still. With her greatest foe defeated Nightmare began to chuckle, then laugh. Finally she stood over her sister's broken body in triumph. But she still had one more thing to do. Slowly she bent down beside Celestia so she could hear what she Nightmare had to say.
"You know sis i would love to stay and chat some more but i have plan's for equestria." Slowly Nightmare began to cast a spell, one that would delve into her sister's memory's. Once she had what she was after she lifted herself up.
"And what better place to start than ponyville." As she turned to leave Nightmare sparred her sister one last look. And then a single tear escaped her eye's before she disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
