//------------------------------// // Fun! // Story: There Are No Smiles // by X3n0heart //------------------------------// As the first rays of soft sunlight carried themselves through Pinkie's window, her eyes snapped open as she literally sprung to life with a huge smile upon her muzzle. Today was a special day for one of her closest friends: it was Apple Jack's birthday! As she landed next to her bed, her covers seemingly to place themselves in an already made fashion upon her bed, she stretched and looked around her room. "Today's the day, Gummy! Ohhh I'm so excited to get everything ready for Apple Jack's birthday party later this evening." As Pinkie trotted over to her desk and went over the check list that Twilight helped create, she didn't see her pet alligator anywhere in her room. "Gummy? That's strange, he's usually attached to my mane in the mornings. Hmm, maybe he's already downstairs with the Cakes." Pinkie made her way downstairs as she voiced her thoughts. "Let's see...first I'll pick up the streamers, then the balloons, followed by the banner that I ordered. Lastly I'll pick up the specially made triple apple crisp cake with apple frosting with slices of apples in the shape of AJ on top." She giggled to herself as she pictured it wiping some drool away with a hoof as she got to the bottom of the stairs. "Speaking of cakes, Mrs. Cake?" she called out as she noticed nopony was up yet. "Mr. Cake?" she called out again as she made her way into the kitchen. "Weird. Where are they? Usually one of them is already up and getting things ready for the day's orders." Pinkie thought aloud as she trotted back into the main room. "Maybe they had to go get some more supplies. Well I need to get some of the things anyways so I'll come back and see if they return." Smiling to herself Pinkie trotted outside with her saddle bags and headed towards her favorite streamer shop and noticed nopony was there and the sign on the cart still said closed. Scratching her mane with a hoof Pinkie looked around the cart and wondered where she was at. Next she wandered over to where she usually picks up her banners and it was the same scene: there was nopony there as well. "Where is everypony?" she asked herself as she trotted to the paint store. Once again the sign said closed and there was no sign of anypony around. In fact that's when she noticed that there wasn't any sound either. No birds chirping, no small critters running around, the only thing that made sound were her own hooves as well as a gentle breeze that sprung up momentarily before fading away. "Maybe they are all at Sweet Apple Acres and have started without me?" Pinkie asked herself as she broke into a gallop towards the farm. Upon reaching it she came to a stop as she noticed the apples still on the trees. Big Mac should have been apple bucking already as well as Apple Jack and Apple Bloom working on their chores. Pinkie made her way to the door and knocked on it a few times. "Apple Jack? Big Mac? Granny Smith?" she called out getting no replies from anypony. A worried look began to show in her eyes as she turned and galloped back towards Ponyville. She ran straight towards Rarity's boutique and knocked on her door calling out to her. "Rarity? Are you there?" Again there was no reply or even any type of noise coming from inside. Her worry started to show even more now on her face as she turned and galloped over to Fluttershy's cottage. "Fluttershy? Please tell me your home.." she called out as she knocked on her door as well. Pinkie Pie took a few steps back as her worry started to form into fear before she turned and headed for Twilight's castle. It didn't take her long before she got there and went inside immediately. She made her way straight to the map room thinking that perhaps they got called on a mission and were there. As she opened the doors she came to stop for there was nopony in here either. "Twilight! Spike! Some pony answer me!" Pinkie cried out as she turned and ran back outside. As she made her towards the center of town, Pinkie slowed to a walk before coming to a complete stop near the fountain. Turning her head she looked up at Canterlot and said, "What if they got summoned there...? No, Twilight would have said that she was leaving. Maybe I should go check anyways." She headed towards the train station and gave a sigh of relief to see that it was still there. As she approached the ticket counter she stopped in mid step for it also said it was closed. Turning her head towards the train she noticed it wasn't even running nor were there the conductor pony or the ticket master pony. "No this can't be!" She cried out as she turned and galloped back into town. The silence was mind boggling and was starting to get to her as her left eye twitched slightly. Pinkie hated to be alone and now it looked like all of Ponyville was deserted. Not even a trace or a hoof print could be seen as she spun in slow circles looking at every building with their closed doors and windows with shut blinds. "No, please, some pony..." she whispered as she placed both hooves on her head as if trying to silence the voices that tried to speak out. Her mane and tail deflated and became straight as she tried to force herself to smile as her eye twitched even more. Sitting down in the dirt Pinkie Pie stared off into the sky as the thoughts of being alone forever haunted her. Click. The sound of a computer screen turning off with some pony sitting in front of it was heard in the soft glow of the room. Other beeps and boops could be heard along with the sound of a stable heart rate monitor. Next to the pony was a chamber, sitting at a forty-five degree angle, just large enough to fit a single pony. Inside was that familiar pink pony, Pinkie Pie, breathing steadily as wires were attached to her head running from the capsule to the computer next to her. The pony sitting next to it slowly turned it's head and looked over her shoulder. It was the Princess of Friendship! As Twilight's eyes shown with a demented glimmer a twisted grin started to form upon her lips. As her smile grew more and more twisted her eyes beamed with that insanely intelligence that one gets when they cross certain lines. She then only spoke a single word in a mock Pinkie Pie voice, it echoing in that dimly lit chamber. "Fun!"
