//------------------------------// // Chapter 4.5- Totally Not A Chapter Of A Rivalry Between Flitter And Rarity // Story: Sunset and Twilight Go On a Dangerous Quest Called Love While Rainbow Dash Flew This Morning // by Nikkori //------------------------------// Flitter was not okay. She currently sat down in a bench in the new Harmony Park. "What was Rarity thinking! Sharing everpony's business here!" Flitter growled to herself. "Here, everypony knows your name and business Flitter," a pony answered, "so why bother hiding anything?" Flitter groaned as she realized who it was. "Rarity. You heard me?" Flitter asked meekly. "Every word Flitter." Rarity replied. Flitter once again growled. "But. I really need to know, why did you spread all of that gossip?" Flitter asked. Rarity rolled her eyes. "First, it's not gossip if it's true, Darling." Rarity explained. "Now, may I sit next to you, Miss Seafoam?" Flitter gasped. "The only ponies who know my last name is AJ and Cloudchaser! How did you know?" Flitter was a bit surprised. Rarity rolled her eyes. "Darling, here everypony know your name-" Rarity was cut off by Flitter. "I know that!" Flitter messed with her bow. "Now tell me how you know my last name!" Rarity put her hoof on Flitter's back and began talking like a kindergarten teacher would. "Darling, you have placed orders for my dresses, no?" Flitter nodded. "Well, you are required to write you full name, Flitter Dragonfly Seafoam. Good enough?" Rarity's tone became smug at the end. Flitter made a sour expression. "You're something Rarity." Flitter said. "Achieved your dream, savior of Equestria, popular, beautiful, has a cute dragon waiting on you hand and hoof-" Flitter hoped Rarity didn't hear that last part. When Rarity said nothing, Flitter continued. "And you Uh, make friends easily." Flitter smiled. Rarity giggled elegantly. "Well, that's not that true." Rarity smiled. "But I appreciate that you think that highly of me. I honestly think you're mighty spectacular, Miss Flitter. I hope you think so too." Now it was Flitter's turn to say something about Rarity. "I really like your mane!" Flitter blurted out. That was close! I really hope Rarity didn't think I hate her too much! "I feel that you are hiding something." Rarity said flatly. Flitter 'psh'ed and waved her right hoof. "I'm not. What makes you think that?" Flitter hoped Rarity would buy the whole thing, but Rarity's level glare and flat expression said otherwise. "Flitter. I'm the prime gossiper here. Do you really think that you could get away with that?" Rarity tut tutted. "You should know better." "I'm sorry. But really, why do you gossip?" Flitter asked. Rarity sighed. "Fine. It all started when I was just sixteen, tall, super long mane, newly wearing my blue eyeshadow. My mane was in a ponytail, and my curls were as perfect as ever! I was popular and pretty. I usually blew kisses to colts that adored me. Now, even though ponies loved me, I had a pretty boring life. You know, take care of sister, cook dinner, read fashion magazines? That was all I was. Pretty and Popular Rarity. "But on one faithful day, I was in the bathroom fixing my makeup when I heard on of those 'geeky' mares named Past Tale talking about how much Raining Waters annoyed her, and how she thinks Party Crasher, one of those wild mares, always came to school hungover. She began ranting on how much Love Spell loved herself. Now, me being boring old me memorized everything Past Tale said. "When the next school day rolled around, I told my best friends there named Golden Silk everything I heard. She asked me how did I know that. I just said, spread it around, tell ponies that Past Tale said. Now, I felt my boring life booming. Popular ponies came over to get the new Gossip. "What about poor Past Tale? She was more popular. So, I kept spreading the gossip. It earned me the nickname Mystery Mare. It meant nopony knew when I was watching. I was no longer boring Rarity. I was Mystery Mare. But, I did things I wasn't proud of. "Party Crasher started to make the rumor about her come true. Everyday, Party Crasher would stumble in my school-" "What was your school?" Flitter asked. "Oh silly me! I went to Saint Selena's. Now, Party Crasher would stumble into school, high and drunk as ever. The teachers didn't care, Party Crasher was doing her destiny, so they could do nothing. Raining Waters always stuck by me, becoming my airborne sidekick since she was a pegasus. So, it was now Rarity, Golden Silk, and Raining Waters. It was the next day I got a request form Golden Silk herself to tell the school that she and Rose Bloom, another mare, lost their you know... to each other. "So I did. Rose Bloom slapped me when she saw me. I saw Golden Silk's popularity decline. When I met up with her, all she said was thank you. "So now Flitter, if I ever stop gossiping, I would be boring old Rarity again." Rarity finished. Flitter nodded. "OkayOkkayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy." Flitter drew out. "I know that you gossip to stay important." Rarity nodded. "Now Tell Me What You're Hiding." Rarity's voice was scary. Flitter mustered up all of her courage. "I hate you." Flitter said. "I hate you so much, you ungrateful brat." Flitter felt good. "Oh really now? Why so?" Rarity's tone was icy. Flitter gulped, but couldn't back down. "I hate you because- I can't tell you. You disgust me." Flitter was on a roll now. "You're just another prissy Canterlot wannabe." "Oh really now!" Rarity yelled. "I'm your worst nightmare now. Better watch out!" Flitter scoffed as she got up. "Die in a fire Rival Rarity!" Flitter yelled as she hovered. Rarity scoffed. "Step on a lego, Flitter Fiend!" Rarity yelled as she went away. How would AJ and Cloudy date without interruption now?
