//------------------------------// // Mistake // Story: Rejection // by BombShelter //------------------------------// "Because I love you!" Rainbow Dash yells at you with tears in her eyes. All you asked was why she had been acting weird around you for the past month or so. It's been, what, five months since that weird storm somehow brought you here to this strange world filled with multicolored ponies? You befriended the cyan mare almost immediately after you met her, and you never thought she would have any kind of feelings for you past being best friends! "You... what?" You ask, confusion in your voice. "I-I didn't mean to say that! Oh my, I'm so sorry, it just slipped out!" Her eyes start to tear up, it almost breaks your heart to watch. "Please don't hate me!" "R-Rainbow, I've told you before that I don't look at ponies that way. I just don't think I could ever love one of you like that..." You say, somewhat lying to yourself. You know that deep down, you loved her too. You were just too stupid to look past the fact that she wasn't a human. Why? Maybe you were scared of what others would think of you. You knew you would never date one of these ponies. "B-But... I..." Rainbow fully breaks down on your couch in your small cabin on the edge of town. You reach out a hand to try to comfort her, but as soon as you make contact with her soft fur, she shoots outside like a bullet. You stare at your now open door, watching as she quickly disappears into the distance. You mentally punch yourself for doing what you did, but your mind is still telling you that you could never love one of the ponies, no matter how much you cared for them. You stared outside for a good ten minutes before snapping back to reality. No... you DID love her, and you knew that for a fact. You were stuck in this world for God knows how long, so you might as well man up and live your life the way that you want! You jump off the couch, and sprint outside only to get hit by a torrent of freezing cold rain. You whip your head around, your bangs clinging to your skin as you search for your rainbow colored friend. You start running in a random direction, calling out her name desperately. As you sprint, you can feel tears forming in your eyes. Damn! You were so stupid telling her that you didn't love her! Who gives a darn what she looks like, she's basically a human inside! You try to force back the tears as you pass by Twilight's library. It is almost eleven at night, so you doubt she could be much help right now. You don't even care that your clothes are being soaked as you sprint to the other side of town. Eventually, you reach a park that you and Rainbow would hang out at almost every day. If she went anywhere, she would probably be around here. You call for her over the sound of the pouring rain, but get no response. You almost give up all hope until you spot a small figure down by the edge of the large lake that sits in the middle of the park. You slowly approach the figure once you see that whoever it is has a rainbow colored mane that is all too familiar to you. As you slowly approach, you can hear Rainbow sobbing loudly over the rain. She hasn't seen you yet. You stop about five feet behind her, and call her out one last time. "Rainbow Dash!" She turns around to look at you, and her eyes narrow in what appears to be anger when she sees you. "W-What do you w-want!?" She yells, obviously having to talk through her tears as she chokes on just about every other word. You feel even worse now. If you can't make it up to her, you might have just lost one of the best friends you've ever had. You don't respond at first, you simply sit down on the wet grass next to her. "I wanted to apologize... I shouldn't have said what I did..." You say as you rub your eyes with the palms of your hands. You look up and stare at those big magenta eyes that you've always loved to look at. She looks back at you, the anger in her eyes disappearing ever so slightly. "Yeah, sure you do. I mean, why would you ever love some dumb animal..." She says with a huff as she takes her eyes off of yours. She looks back at the lake, and you sigh as you choose your next words carefully. "I'm serious Rainbow. I'm sorry I compared you guys to the horses back where I'm from that one time, but I didn't mean you were some animal..." You try to explain. "You only love humans... You've already told me that before. Just go away would you?" She says, the anger now gone, replaced with grief. "Rainbow, I love you too, and I'm sorry I said that I didn't. That was dumb to say, but in reality, I like you, a lot." You try your best to get through to her. "Why should I believe you?" The anger starting to return in her eyes. You can't believe what you're about to do, but you know that it just feels like the right thing to do. You tackle Rainbow to the ground, and she tries to struggle for a second before your eyes meet. The anger vanishes from her magenta eyes, and now all you can see is confusion. You press your lips down on hers, and her eyes shoot open in surprise. You watch as they slowly close, and she you notice some new tears trailing down her face. She sobs into you, letting out what are now tears of what you assume is happiness. All the stress you previously had disappears, replaced with a warm happy feeling that fills every vein in your body. You stand up, the girl that you love wrapped tightly in your arms. You hug the beautiful mare before staring into those big magenta eyes that you fell deeply in love with. Her face shows nothing but pure shock and happiness. She leans over and whispers something into your ear. "Thank you... I love you." She manages to get out before starting to sob violently again. You hold her there in that freezing rain, taking in the moment, letting reality sink in. You fell in love with this mare, and you weren't ashamed if anyone knew it. Not anymore. You stand there, soaking wet, in the middle of your favorite park, holding your favorite mare, enjoying your new favorite memory. You whisper one last thing to Rainbow before pressing your lips against her's one more time. "I love you too."
