//------------------------------// // One Day Down, More to Come // Story: Trying To Forget Past Mistakes // by SaiyanApprentice //------------------------------// Chapter 3: One day down, more to Come The school bell ranger and dozens of fillies and colts started trotting out of the door.  Sugar cream and Dinky were in the back of the crowd as they were walking out. The two were so caught up talking with each other that they really weren't in any rush to go anywhere. “Wow” said Dinky. “Usually schools so boring and long. But today’s different, I actually had fun” Sugar nodded in agreement. “I know, I never thought my first day would be this good. I thought things might actually go horribly wrong, guess I got lucky I suppose” Dinky chuckled. “Well, if it takes meeting a new pony to make my day at school better, than I wish you could have been here when school started” Sugar smiled at Dinky. “Well I'm here now ar-” “Hey look silver, the babies are getting out” Before Sugar could finish her sentence, a voice had spoken over her. Both Sugar and Dinky turned to see a two ponies coming toward the school. One was a pinky pony, with a light violet and white striped mane and a Tiara  on her head. The other was a gray pony with light blue glasses and pearls around her neck, with a lovely light gray mane. “Who are they?” Sugar asked. “That's Diamond Tiara and Silver spoon” said Dinky. “They're in the older pony classes, don't pay any attention to them. They do this when we get out sometimes” Sugar Cream turned back to the two older fillies heading their way, why were they being mean to her and her classmates. They didn't do anything wrong that she didn't know about did they? “Isn't a shame silver spoon, we have to be in the same classroom as these smelly diaper wear’s” said Diamond. “Sure is” silver retorted back. Sugar started to get upset, she wasn't a baby. She was a big pony and certainly didn't wear diapers, at least anymore. “It's a shame there can't there be a separate classrooms, one for daycare and the other for the big ponys” Diamond laughed. “We're not babies!!” Shouted a voice. The duo darted to where they heard the voice. They saw Sugar cream with an angry expression on her face with Dinky looking at her a little nervous that Sugar Cream had just called them out. “I'm a big pony!” shouted Sugar. “Sugar!? What do you think you're doing?” Dinky asked in disbelief. “I hate being called a baby” exclaimed Sugar. “I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!” Diamond formed a devious smirk on her face. “Is that so?” The pink pony motioned the gray pony toward Sugar and they both started to make their way over to Sugar Cream, who was still looking at them with anger in her eyes. The two older fillies were now face to face with Sugar and they decided it was best to have a little fun with the younger filly. “So, you think you're a big pony huh?” The pink pony asked. Sugar huffed. “I know I'm a big pony, you big meanie” The two older fillies started laughing histaricly. Which left Sugar cream a little confused on why they were laughing. “Oh no Silver, she just called me a meanie, whatever shall I do?” Diamond said in the most sarcastic way she could. Dinky in her mind knew this could get out of hoof if this went on any longer, so she decided to try and put an end to it. “Look Diamond, she's new here and she doesn't really know much here in Ponyville” Dinky started. “You think you can let this slide just for this once?” Diamond Tiara gave Dinky a nasty stare. “I wasn't talking to you, twerp” Dinky made a nervous squeak and backed up a little. She then turned her attention back to Sugar Cream. “Look here baby I th-” “My names not Baby, it's Sugar Cream!” Sugar exclaimed. “Right….Sugar” Diamond. “I get that you're new around here, but here's the thing. I wouldn't advise talking back to me like that, you see this sch-” Sugar Cream then stuck her tongue out and buzzed it at the older filly. “Pzzzzztt” Diamond was taken back by this action and only to display an expression of disgust at the younger filly. “Wha? Hey I was t-” The younger filly once again buzzed her at Diamond Tiara. “Pzzzzzzttt” Dinky started to giggle at Sugar Creams remarks towards the older filly. Seeing her get uptight was quite a sight to see. Diamond Tiara was now getting more annoyed and frustrated with the younger filly. She would not be made a fool of by some baby. “Would yo-” “Pzzzzzttt” “Woul-” “Pzzzzztt” “Yo-” “Pzzzztt” “STOP DOING THAT!!” “Pzzztt Pzzt Pzzz Pzzz PZZZZZTTT” At this point, even Silver spoon was trying her hardest not to laugh at how frustrated Diamond was getting with the small filly’s behavior. But Dinky couldn't control herself and continued to laugh at her new friends remarks. You could practically see the angry in Diamond Tiara’s eyes. She had gotten sick and tired of this filly. It couldn't have possibly gotten any worse. But it was short lived and Diamond could hear  the sounds of giggling from behind her. Diamond jerk her head up at the sound of it and turned around to see 3 ponies the same age as her laughing at her. The one with a very light yellow coat and light red mane, another was a an orange Pegasus with a cerise messy mane, and the last one with a very light gray almost white coat and light curly mulberry mane with light grayish rose streaks. The three girls couldn't help but enjoy what they were seeing, and this didn't make Diamonds mood any better. “Wow Diamond, you're sure letting that small filly get to you” said Orange pegasus. “Maybe you ought uh think this through, ah think she might uh just met her match girls” chuckled The Yellowpony. Diamond Tiara turned back the small filly, it was one thing to get mocked by a little kid, but to also be mocked by other ponies her age that she truly despised didn't make the situation any better for her. If she wasn't mad before, this defiantly did the trick. “Now you listen here you littl-” “Pzzzztt” Diamond had had it, she eye to eye with the small filly, and gave her the most deadly stare she could. “I have had enough of your mocking and disrespect!” She yelled. “If you don't stop making absurd mouth gestures or even think about giving one more gesture to me, I'm going to-” Sugar Cream tilted her head in confusion “What does absurd mean?” Before Diamond could even say anything back or express any sort of rage to the small filly. The three older fillies that were sitting on the sidelines suddenly ran up to Diamond Tiara. “Whoa whoa whoa their Diamond” said white filly. “You need to calm down” “Yeah, you wouldn't want Miss Cheerilee to hear that you're trying to pick on some of her younger students now would you?” Said the orange filly. Diamond Tiara huffed at the comment the orange filly hade made. “Fine blank flank, I'll leave the baby alone” Diamond then turned back to Sugar. “And as for you, don't think this over between us. Let's go Silver Spoon” With that said Diamond Tiara started trotting forward toward the schoolhouse, Silver spoon following behind her. Once the girls were inside the three fillies that had stepped in, signed in relief. “Wow she's got some nerve for picking on ponies younger than her” said the orange pony. “Ah know, you’d think she'd at least show some sympathy” said the yellow pony. “She probably picks on the elderly too for all we know” said the white pony. The trio then focused their attention on Dinky and Sugar Cream. “You guys okay?” “Yeah we’re fine” said Dinky. “I'm fine” said Sugar. “Can't believe she called me a baby” “Well to be fair you kinda a-OW!” The yellow pony had giving the orange filly a hard nudge to the ribs and gave the filly a sheepish smile. “ANYway’s we’re glad you two are okay, but ah don't believe we’ve seen you aroun’ before”  said the Yellow Pony pointing at Sugar Cream. “She's new here” Dinky said. “She just moved here today” “Heeeyyy, I was gonna say that” said Sugar in a whiny tone. The yellow pony chuckled. “Well, Ah don't think we've been properly introduced. Ah’m Applebloom” “I'm Sweetie Belle” said the white pony perking up giving Sugar a big smile. “And I'm Scootaloo” said the orange Pony. Sugar gave them a light smile. “I'm Sugar Cream, it's nice to meet you. Thanks for helping me I guess” “No problem” said Applebloom. “We can't stand Diamond Tiara just as much if not more than you do. So why not help a fellow pony out” Sugar chuckled. “Yeah I don't really like her” “Dinky!” A female voice called out. Dinky looked up and see her mother Derpy trotting over to the small group. “Mommy!” said Dinky rushing up to her mom and giving her a hug. Derpy hugged her daughter back and then separated. “Did you have a good day today?” Th filly nodded. “Yeah and I even met somepony new” The filly then turned back to Sugar Cream. “Sugar Cream this is my mother, Derpy” “H-hi” said a little nervous trying to hid her face. She was more comfortable meeting new ponies her age than adults, she didn't know why but she was always she when meeting new adults. Derpy smiled. “It's nice to meet you Sugar” Derpy then paused for second, didn't she hear that name earlier. “Wait, you wouldn't happen to be Di-” “Hey who the heck is that?” Said Scootaloo point down the road a ways. “Sugar Cream!” The voice called out. Everypony turned down the road to see Digital Running their way at full force and then started skidding to a grinding halt in front of his daughter. “Did I *paint* make it time” said Digital trying to catch his breath. “Daddy!” said Sugar Cream perking up and giving her fathers leg a big hug. Digital smiled in response to his daughters in embrace. “I guess I did” He then turned to Derpy. “Hey Derpy, how did you get here before me? I thought you had something to do” Derpy chuckled. “Well I did, I had to pick up Dinky here from school you silly goose. I thought you know too considering Sugar comes here too” Digital a started blushing while rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. “I'm still trying to get into the hang of things around here” Digital then focused on the trio of fillies that looked a little Older than his daughter. “Oh and who are you three?” Sugar Cream let go of her dad and looked back the the trio of girls. “Oh that's, Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo. They helped me out a few minutes ago” “Oh really now” he said smiling at the trio. “Sure did! Girls, this is my daddy” said Sugar Cream introducing him. “Hi, I'm Digital Groove” he said waving at them. The trio looked at eachother in confusion and then back to Sugar cream. “That's your dad?” They said simultaneously. “Ah coulda sworn he was your brother” said Applebloom. “Um girls” said Derpy intervening. “I'm not sure that's the most appropriate question to ask him” “No no it's alright Derpy” said Digital. “No harm done” Digital then took a closer looked at one of the trio In particular, something about that white filly seemed strangely familiar . “Hey ummm Sweetie Belle right?” “Yeah?” The white unicorn said back. “Forgive me if I'm wrong but, you kinda resemble somepony I ran into earlier today” Digital started. Sweetie Belle raised an eyebrow at him. “Are you referring to my big sister?” “Is your sister's name Rarity” he asked. “Yes it is” said Sweetie Belle. “Then yes I ran into your sister today” said Digital. Sweetie Belle smiled at the stallion. “Oh that's cool, she's kinda weird huh?” The stallion chuckled. “No I wouldn't call her weird, I'd say….creative” The trio giggled. “Well I think it's about time we get going”. said Sweetie. They then started to walk towards the school house. “It was nice meetin ya Sugar Cream, Mr.Digital. But our class is going to start here soon so we need ta get goin” said Applebloom. Digital smiled. “Alright girls, have fun” The trio waved back at him and disappeared in the building. “Those girls seem nice” said Derpy. “I don't know much about them but I've seen them around town from time to time” Digital looked down at Sugar and smiled. “You see sweetie, making new friends already” Sugar Cream gave a sheepish smile to her father. There was a small silence between the four before Derpy spoke up. “Oh Dig, I don't think I've introduced my daughter to you” she then looked down at Dinky. “Dinky this is Digital, he's a new friend of mine here in Ponyville” said Derpy. “It's nice to meet you Mister.” Said the small filly looking up at him. “It's nice to meet you too Sweetheart, you know it's because of your mom here that I managed to find me and Sugars new home” said Digital. “Really? That's so cool” said Dinky. “Say Sugar where's your mom?” “Dinky!” Scolded Derpy. There was a long silence between both Digital and Sugar Cream. Dinky hadn't known what she said wrong, she just wanted to meet her new friends mom just like her dad. Maybe she said it in a way that sounded rude. “I….I don't have a mommy” said Sugar Cream. Dinky finally knew what she had said wrong, she had no idea that Sugar Cream was motherless. But how could she know, nopony warned her. She then thought it best to apologize while she still had a chance. “Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know” said Dinky. “I-it's okay, don't worry about it sweetheart” said Digital. Before the conversation could go any further, Derpy spoke up. “HEY, why don't we go to the park. I'm sure you girls would want to hang out a little more while they day's still young” The two fillies perked up with huge smiles. “The park!” They said in unison. “Yeah, we can finally build that ultimate sand castle Sugar” said Dinky. “Oh yeah” Sugar started. “Well what are we waiting for? Lead the way” With that said the two fillies took off, Dinky going ahead and Sugar following right behind her. “Slow down girls, make sure that we can still see you” said Digital calling out to them as him and Derpy followed. Now that it was just Digital and Derpy by themselves, while their daughters we up ahead eager to get the park. Derpy thought this would be the best time to apologize for Dinkys outburst. “Look Dig, I'm sorry about what Dinky said. I didn't think she would bring that up all of a sudden” Derpy started. “No...it's okay Derpy, she's just a foal. She didn't know” said Digital. “But” Digital started before his smile faded and look of grim appeared on his face. “I hate how she has to say that to others….how she doesn't have a mother, or she's never met her mother” Derpy looked over at Digital. “I know how you feel Digital. It's hard being a single parent, but hey look at us. We doing pretty good for ourselves aren't we?” Digital looked back at Derpy and smiled at her. At least she was trying to make him feel better. “Yeah, I'd say we are doing pretty good. All I care about is Suger's happiness, nothing else is more important to me then that” Derpy chuckled. “Well what parent wouldn't care about their child's happiness Dig, let me assure to you that I think your a great parent from what I've seen. You couldn't be doing any better of job then what you're already doing” Digital smiled at the mare and then looked ahead forward the two smaller fillies as they laughed and scurried around each other. Meanwhile Diamond Tiara was standing behind the schoolhouse door with a look of shock on her face. She had wanted to go back to say a couple choice words to the filly before her class started, even though it probably wouldn't have done much or she’d even have to deal with somepony else. But she couldn't shake the feeling that she needed to put her one last input in after that humiliating scenery of her being made of a fool of. once she saw the two adults, She thought she'd stay back and listen, as much to her surprise. She was glad that she did. Other wise she probably would have be scolded or worse “So That little baby doesn't have a mother!” said Diamond. It took her for a second to process everything. This may have been the opportunity, the chance she needed. A smirk formed on her face as she realized this was only the beginning. “Interesting” She then trotted back inside the schoolhouse and prepared for the school day ahead. …. It was now near close to sunset at the park, the two younger fillies were exhausted from the playing they had done. Digital and Derpy had watched and chatted while their daughters were having fun, But they day was nearing its end and it was time to head home. “Dinky it's time to go!” Derpy called out. “You too Sugar Cream, we gotta go!” Digital called. Dinky over heard her mother calling her from a distance and frowned. “Aw man I'm Never going to make that ultimate sand castle” Sugar smiled. “Well maybe we can spend our whole time on it tomorrow at recess” Dinky smiled back. “Yeah true, coming mom!” Dinky and Sugar then trotted back to their parents with exhausted yet satisfied looks on their face. “Well I think it's about time we head back home” said Derpy. “I think we should ease our way back too, except I'm kinda getting a little hungry and I don't exactly have my fridge set up yet, nor do I have food in it.” said Digital. “So I guess we’re eating out. Sugar is there anything in particular you want for Dinner?” The filly immediately perked up and looked at her dad with puppy dog eyes. “Pizza!” She exclaimed. Digital chuckled. “Alright alright, pizza it is. Now that you mention it pizza does sound pretty good” Digital then turned to Derpy. “Hey you wouldn't know where we can find a pizza place here would you?” The mare nodded. “There’s one by nearby your house, but a couple of blocks down the road from maple, which is the street before you get to Hoofingson.” Digital laughed. “I'm pretty sure I can remember that” Dinky gave Digital a goofy smile “Well you two have fun, me and Dinky need to go home and have dinner too” “Awww but I wanted pizza too” Dinky pouted. Everyone chuckled, gave their goodbyes and then went their separate ways “See you tomorrow Dinky” said Sugar waving her friend goodbye. Dinky smiled and waved back. “Bye Sugar!” … Digital and Sugar Cream; now on Digitals back, walked through the entrance of the Pizza parlor’s doors. The small filly has become pretty exhausted and usually liked riding her dad's back when she could. The pizza place however, didn't seem too busy, but there were some ponies in their. The atmosphere kinda reminded Digital of a diner he went to as a colt, it looked like one too. After a minute of waiting a pegasus filly with curly orange mane and light gray coat, came up to the duo with a big smile on her face. “Hello there!” said the mare. “Will you two be dining in?” Digital nodded. “Yes” “Would you like a booth or would you prefer a table?” She asked. “Booth would be nice, thank you” Digital said back. The mare then picked up a menu and a foals menu and started to walk off. “Right this way you two” Digital followed her in response, and the mare lead them to a table that had a good view of outside the restaurant as well as the sunset. “Is this one alright?” She asked. “Yes, it is. Thank you” said Digital. Sugar Cream; a little drowsy but still had Energy, Jumped off her father's back and onto the opposite end of the booth. Facing her dad. The waitress gave a warm smile at the filly. “Well now aren't you just a precious little thing” she started. “How old is she?” she said turning to Digital. “She's six” said Digital. The waitress gave a happy response and turned to Sugar. “Wow aren't you a getting to be a big pony” She then turned back to Digital. Sugar Creams gave the waitress a sheepish smile in response. She did like when others referred her as being a bigger pony then she actually was. The waitress then turned back to Digital. “You must be so proud”   Digitals expression softened as he looked at the waitress. “Everydays a miracle” he said. The waitress smiled, the. pulled out a pen and notepad. “So what would you two like to drink?” “Is water okay sweetie?” Digital asked Sugar. Sugar Cream nodded in response. “We'll both go with water” said Digital. The mare starting writing on the notepad and then turned back to Digital. “And are you Guys ready order or do you need a minute to look?” “You just want a cheese pizza Sugar?” asked Digital. Sugar Cream gave her father a huge smiled. “Yeah cheese!” She exclaimed. Digital chuckled and handed the menus to the waitress. “I think we’ll just share a large cheese” The mare smiled at the two, wrote on the notepad, and took the menu from Digital. “Alright you two, I'll make sure that gets to you two” she started. “By the way my name is feather breeze, so if you two need anything else just let me know” “Alright thank you very much” Digital said. The smiled back and walked off toward the kitchen. Digital then turned to Sugar Cream who seemed to be looking out the window, since they were finally by themselves. He figured it would be best to ask about her day and what she thinks of her new home. “So Sugar?” Digital started. “How was your first day at school, or perhaps even here in ponyville” The small filly turned to her dad and smiled. “Oh it was good, school was fun. I got to meet Dinky and Miss Cheerilee was super nice” Digital smiled. “Well that's great to hear, as for me. I had quite the day too, I was trying to find our new house most of the time but kept Running into ponies who turned out to be really nice, Derpy included” “Yeah” Sugar started. “I really like it here” Digital chuckled. “Anything you don't  like?” He asked. Sugar Cream pondered for a second. “Well…” She started. “Before you came and got me, some older filles started calling me and Dinky babies, and other mean stuff, but those other 3 fillies you met helped me out and took care of it by making her leave” Digital frowned at her. Was she really getting tormented by other students on her first day? And older ones for that matter. “You were being picked on?” Sugar shook her head. “Well not really, I don't think. But I stood my ground against her,and that's when Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo stepped in” Digital signed. “Well if these girls that started tormenting you ever cause any future problems for you, don't be afraid to tell me okay?” The filly smiled and nodded in response. “Okay Daddy” The thought still bugged Digital, he didn't want his daughter to be picked on. He himself knew first hand how mean kids could be to each other, he could only hope that this would be a one time thing only and occur again. But if it so happened to, maybe those nice 3 fillies could help her out again or even Dinky. Digitals thoughts were interrupted when the waitress returned carrying two glasses of water with straws in them on a tray. “Here you two go” said said setting the tray down on the table and giving them each their water. “Thank you” said Sugar. The waitress gave Sugar Cream a warm smile. “You're most certainly welcome Sweetie” She then turned to Digital. “Anything else for you two?” Digital shook his head. “I think we're fine for the time being” The waitress nodded. “Alrighty, well your pizzas just about done. I'll Be sure to bring when it's ready” “Alright thank you” Digital said. The waitress left with a smile on her face, Digital then turned back to Sugar Cream who was now focusing on her water. All this thinking he had been doing had made him think back to when Sugar Cream was brought into his life, had it already been 6 years? But the more the thought of that, the more bad memories came into his head regardless of how much he tried to push it away. It didn't have to be like this. “Daddy?” Again Digital looked up at his daughter snapping out of his own thoughts once again. “Are you okay?” she asked. Digital smiled. “Of course I am sweetie. Why'd you ask” Sugar Cream frowned. “You look like you're about to cry” Digital hadn't noticed but his eyes had started getting watery with all the thinking he had been doing. Maybe now wasn't the best time to think, and what good was there in thinking about it? The small filly gave him a warm smile. “Does somepony need a hug?” Hearing those words only softened Digitals heart. He was raising such a beautiful, kindhearted filly. “Y-yes sweetie, daddy could use a hug” he managed to say while smiling back. With that said, Sugar hopped down from her seat, trotted to her father's side of the table, jumped up to his seat and wrapped her tiny hooves around his torso best she could. “I love you daddy” she said. Digital couldn't hold back anymore. He definitely felt the tears coming this time, but only a few managed to stream down his face. It was moments like this they made every moment of being a parent worth it, to hear your own child tell you how much they love you. Even in good times or bad, they would never think differently of you. Nothing could make him happier. “Daddy loves you too sweetheart” … After a tasty and satisfying meal, the duo headed out of the restaurant with their stomachs full and appetite satisfied. It was nearly dark outside, with the sun just barely shedding what light was left outside before the moon came out. The walk back wasn't that bad, to Digital he seemed a lot closer to town then he thought, which was great. Considering he was somewhat close to everything. “Alright sweetie, you excited to see our new home?” He asked. The filly bounced up and down. “Yes Yes Yes! I can't wait to see my new room, the bathroom. I can't wait to see the house itself” Digital chuckled in response. “Well since I was trying to find my way to here for most of the time while you were in school. A lot of our furniture is still wrapped up, but don't worry I'll be sure to set up your bed first thing when we step through the door” The duo had finally reached the house, it was dark on the inside but that didn't suppress Sugars excitement for seeing the new home. As Digital and Sugar walked up to the door. The little filly couldn't hold her excitement in, she had been wanting to see the new house ever since Digital said they were going to be moving. “Alright sugar now remember, not a lot of furniture is set up yet, so we’ll have to do that before we d-” Digital stopped when her turned the handle. It was unlocked. “Huh? Did I forget the lock the door?” Sugar looked up at Digital. “Is something wrong daddy?” “Well no but…” Digital pondered for a sec before shrugging it off. “Well I did run off in a hurry earlier when I went to pick you up from school, clumsy me” “Please celestia and everything holy, please let nothing be stolen” Digital thought. Digital twisted the doorknob with his magic and slowly opened the door. Once the door was completely open. The darkness in the house had been replaced by lights that came on all around the inside of the house, a crowd of ponies were standing inside smiling toward the Stallion and his Daughter. “Surprise!!” “Surprise!” Exclaimed a Pinkie pony jumping out in front of the two.
