A Blazing Heart

Through The Fire and Flames

Blaze picked up his Daybreak and flew to the place where his Quest would take place, his Unicorn keeping an eye out while he enjoyed the horizon and the beautiful, breathtaking view. He enjoyed the leisurely glide as he flew over beautiful green fields and amazing mountains, seeing plenty of cows and sheep.

"I passed!" Blaze said happily.

"That's awesome! I knew you could do it." Daybreak said.

"We have a quest, and you're going to help me." Blaze told his Unicorn.

"Can you take off my inhibitor, Master?" Daybreak asked.

"Sure, hon. And you know, you don't have to call me Master when no other Dragons are around."

"I like it. You're my Master, and I protect you." Daybreak said happily.

"I don't need protecting." Blaze said cooly.

"What's this quest?" Daybreak asked.

Blaze suddenly dived down to grab a cow, and his mouth stretched as he swallowed it whole.

"Hey! Dragons only eat gems!" Daybreak said, a little disgusted.

"I like meat. It's tasty. And we can eat anything, we just get more minerals from rock."

"Fine." Daybreak grumbled. "What's the Quest?"

"There's a town nearby where Unicorns figured out this amazing spell. They broke free of their restraints by having one fake their own death and then spend years grinding and sawing away at their inhibitor until it finally broke yesterday. He pulled off all the other restraints, and he helped teach the spell to other Unicorns. They rebelled, and killed a whole lot of Dragons."

"K-killed?" Daybreak gasped in shock.

"Yeah." Blaze said sadly. "They wanted to rule the town, and they didn't care who they hurt."

Daybreak growled. "Killing is wrong."

Blaze nodded. "Those monsters... Can't they see how good things are with Dragons in charge?"

"What's our quest?" Daybreak asked. "I want to know."

"We have to bring the killers to justice, and recapture the town." Blaze said. "This is a tough quest, one no other Dragon was willing to take."

"So we're gonna finish it in record time?" Daybreak asked, grinning.

"Buck yeah." Blaze said, grinning.

They saw a city smaller than their home of Golden City, fancy but not quite as fancy, guarded from the outside by a seven red Unicorns withgrey or brown manes, spaced unusually far away from each other. Each one had seven Unicorns behind them, giving them their energy. As Blaze flew closer, each one cast a spell, and their magic grew out like fire into a solid object, lots of solid objects, forming what looked like the skeletal upper body of a pony making a shield around them, complete with arms and head. Each one formed a sword made of black flames in their left hands, and the right one began to throw sets of three spinning balls of purple fire.

"THIS is the spell they learned?" Daybreak asked in shock. It was so high-level! She was glad her Cutie Mark was magic, she could learn it.

"Yep!" Blaze asked, grabbing and removing Daybreak's magic inhibitor, and flipping over in the air so he had her riding on his back, her horn glowing.

He flew towards the first monster and dodged its sword, slicing off its arm with his sharp claws, swinging his tail at the head to send a glowing cutting beam from his tail, slicing the head in half. The head exploded, leaving behind only the body and arms. Daybreak charged her horn and fired a golden ball-shaped shot at another monster's head, and the monster rose his sword to block it, but it shot through the sword and hit the monster's head, exploding and taking the monster's head with it.

As Daybreak formed a big golden sword on fire with her magic and swiped it down onto his headless monster, slicing it in half and making a big explosion that destroyed it completely, Blaze flew to her one and used his magic, spinning and sending fire around him to make a drill that went through the monster's chest, destroying that one. The unicorns creating the monsters to fight for them passed out, unable to maintain the spell, and those giving their energy also passed out, no more to give.

Five monsters remained, swinging their swords at him, and Daybreak charged her magic for two seconds and fired four golden shots, each one hitting a different opponent and exploding on contact, destroying their arms. With incredible speed, Blaze drilled through each one's chest, destroying them.

Only one was left, and Daybreak jumped off Blaze. Daybreak put all she had into a massive energy beam that took out the monster's left side, and Blaze used his tail to send a massive slice beam at its right side. The monster exploded, leaving behind nothing but the ponies that had made it.

Blaze caught Daybreak and the two landed, entering the city. Earth Ponies started to throw rocks and blowdarts at them, and Daybreak's magic shield blocked each one while Blaze charged his own Dragon magic, wanting to use fire, but that strange power overtook him again.

"STOP FIGHTING!" He roared.

The ponies stood in shock, shaking, unable to move. Daybreak lowered her shield and Blaze walked to the center of town, finding the rebel leader guarded by four scared Earth Ponies. The rebel leader was a blue female Unicorn with a short pink mane and red eyes.

"You... You have the power.... the voice of a king!" The rebel leader stammered.

"Surrender to me, and accept the way of life. How many dragons did your rebellion kill?" Blaze shouted.

"Seventeen. But only the ones who hurt and abused their slaves!" The rebel leader shouted.

"Did you kill any innocents?" Blaze asked.

"No. Our spellcasters made sure of that." The rebel leader said.

"Good. But this land is the dominion of Draconia. Ponies cannot rule here." Blaze said.

"Is it right?" The rebel leader asked. "Is it right that you Dragons dominate everything?"

"Yes. We are a proud and noble species, with power superior to ponies." Blaze said. "Ponies pay tribute to the Dragons, who protect them from the outside world."

"Really?" The rebel leader asked. "Then why did this rebellion work so well?"

"Obviously, the dragons here suck." Blaze said.

"Then they aren't worth our tribute!" The rebel leader shouted.

"But what of the monsters in other lands?" Blaze asked.

"When they come, we'll take care of them ourselves." The rebel leader growled. "Or rather, IF they ever come. We just want to live in peace, free of Draconic control!"

"But... why? Why would anyone spurn the purity of Dragons?"

"Unicorns are purer." The rebel leader stated. "It is OUR right to rule over all, not yours!"

"If that is true... Then you will be able to defeat us!" Blaze declared, getting ready to fight.

"Why do you have one of ours with you?" The rebel leader asked.

"I don't. I have Daybreak, and she's MINE." Blaze said, and Daybreak's horn glowed gold.

"Fight me without her!" The rebel leader demanded.

"Fine." Blaze said.

The rebel leader fired a massive magic beam at Blaze, and he flew up to avoid the massive explosion. The rebel leader fired another beam, and Blaze flew through it head-on, shrugging off the magic as his Dragon scales and magic shielded him.

He kept flying until he punched the rebel leader in the face, sending her flying through seven buildings.

He landed, and started showing off. "Yeah! Who's the Dragon?"

A spell hit him right in the back of the head. He would have shrugged it off, but it wasn't a harmful spell...

Blaze fell to the ground, fainting, his eyes blank.
