Moon's shadow

5 Darkness

The following day I was transferred to a bed in another room, close to the private rooms of the princesses. Luna told me it usually was for ambassadors from other countries visiting Canterlot. She visited me a few hours before sunset. I was surprised how much fun it was to have her company, she was in an excellent mood and told me a few funny stories, some of them involved Celestia and cake.

"... and she did not notice cake was hanging from her chin, like a beard, while she greeted the Griffin ambassador."
Luna was laughing so hard her wings were shaking.

I snickered while I tried to ignore the slight pain in my chest I got from it.
"You two are typical siblings, even though you are princesses... and ponies... and mighty magical creatures... wow it is still crazy to be in this weird world."

She smiled at me. "You look pretty weird to me too, and some things you told me about your world had been astounding."

My mood cooled down a bit, and I looked to the ground.
"Do you think I will ever see it again?", I whispered.

She went quiet and laid a hoof on my shoulder.
"You know...", she started. "I read a bit in the library today, and I think the only point in time and space, we could get you possibly back to, is exactly where you left..."

I let my head fall into my pillow. "In other words, I would die in that accident if I made it back to earth."

"I'm sorry to have no better news for you, but Equestria is a beautiful place with all kinds of species, you can find happiness here.", she tried to cheer me up but had no luck doing it.

---- O_O ----

I got up early today, at noon, that is pretty early for me since I am up all night guarding the dreams of my subjects. I wanted to research some things in the library to see if my assumption was right about how Alex came here.

On my way to the library, I got a lot of frightened and uneasy looks from ponies and the typical filly running 'away from Nightmare Moon'. I couldn't blame them, it was only a month ago when the darkness in me wanted to bring eternal night to this land.

The Elements of Harmony blasted this darkness away and Nightmare Moon was gone... but I still felt some of this darkness in me, scratching at the door of my mind, begging me to let it in again.

How could they, who had been told their whole life how horrible Nightmare Moon was, trust me, knowing what I had been? How could they trust me if I didn't trust myself. I guess this was the reason I was happy Alex has appeared. He was the only one in Equestria who could look at me without seeing my dark shadow.

I sighed and bought a coffee to wake me up before I entered the library. I spend about four hours there, reading the books I was looking for but found no happy news for Alex.

'bUT tHIS wAY hE wILL hAVE tO sTAY, aND yOU wON´T bE aLONE'

"But this is selfish.", I whispered. I refused to let the darkness in my mind. "I have to bring him this news..."

As I arrived in his new room, he was sitting up in his bed and looked much better than yesterday. I was very relieved to see that.

I decided to lighten him up first and told him a few funny story's, but eventually he asked what everyone would ask in his situation... how he could get back home again.

I explained to him with a heavy heart that he would not survive getting home, even if we would find a way to sent him there.
I tried to paint him a happier picture here in Equestria, but I felt his heart break from this news.

"Please know that Tia and I will be here for you, helping you to find your place here and to make friends."

I brushed through his hair using my hooves, trying to calm him down, while I felt the slight tickle of temporally losing my magic.
