Battle

Link and Princess Luna walked through the hallways to the Lunar Princess's private chambers.

"Here's what will happen," Luna started, "I will cause a distraction with my guards while you go for Celestia. She should be in the Mess Hall. If you want direct instructions; from my room, the first hall you come across, take a left. Keep going until you reach the end of the hall and go left again. Go right down the second hall you see, and at the end the doors to the hall will be there." Link nodded to show that he was listening.

Luna continued giving Link instructions, "Once you find my sister, cut her free with your sword and lead her to me. I will be waiting in the throne room after we run our part." They stopped outside the doors to Luna's room, "A warning before you go, Changelings can disguise themselves so be careful with who you trust." Link nodded once more and entered after Luna.

The pair found themselves in a dark room, with the only light being smouldering embers from a fireplace built into the round walls. Luna used her magic to light up a few scented candles for more light. While she would not say it to anyone, Luna was very scared for her sister and nervous that her plan would fail. She turned to the small boy behind her.

"I will leave you with this parting gift. As long as you wear this pendant around your neck, you will not be able to be affected by magic of any kind. You may still use your own, but any oncoming spells will be deflected or absorbed into your own mana pool, depending on how powerful it is." The Princess levitated the pendant over to Link, who took it from her magical grasp and put it around his neck.

"If Celestia asks for a code to prove that you really are who you say, tell her this; The moon is only a reflection of the raisers spirit. If sad, dim. If happy, bright... That is something I say to her whenever she comments about my moon being brighter than when she rose it in my place."

Another nod was the answer that Luna received. "Good. Now go forth and wait for the signal."

The two parted ways, Link going to his entry point and Luna to her guards.

Link had managed to make it to the rooftop next to the castle's second floor windows without any problems. The only thing he had to do now, was wait.

"What do you think, Navi?" The boy asked the fairy.

"You'll need to be more exact than that Link."

"About this plan. I feel as though it's not going to work as Luna hoped it would."

"I agree. It's not the most thought out plan, but I guess that Celestia is the one with the more strategical mind."

"Well, no backing out now."

"Why not?"

"There's the signal." Looking down Links pointed finger, Navi indeed see their signal to move.

A magical flare shot up into the sky with two purposes. One, to attract more Changelings and two, to alert Link to start. When he looked closer, he could make out the form of Princess Luna being pursued by hundreds upon hundreds of black, insect-like ponies. Link watched for a bit longer and saw the Lunar Guard emerge from their cover and begin engaging the Changelings, their ferocity on for show.

The Changeling ranks wavered before reinforcing themselves under the fierce onslaught of the bat ponies. Green blood and dismembered body parts falling from the sky. There was even a hint of red throughout the falling liquid.

"Come on Link. We have to go!" Navi called from a nearby window. Link ran over to it and entered the castle. As he landed and looked around, he saw patrols of Changelings checking the halls for any intruders. Link smirked to himself. Looks like a little mischief wouldn't go unwanted. He took out his slingshot and took a shot at the leader of a passing patrol. It hit perfectly on target.

"Ok, why'd ya hafta go and hit me again, Echo?" The lead Changeling questioned.

"Sir, wasn't me." The one now known as Echo replied.

"Like I would believe you after the past 199 times you did this." The leader approached the other Changeling. "I've had enough of your antics." With that, he pounced upon the other Changeling and started to fight it. The fight soon escalated and more Changelings started getting involved. This soon left Link with a clear path to the doors. He crept past the fighting insects and entered the next room, quickly hiding behind a pillar.

Princess Luna's POV

Luna was busy overlooking the battle between her guards and the Changelings. That and also defending herself from the ones who tried to attack her. With a burst of magic, she pushed the ones surrounding her away and summoned her battle armour from ages past along with her weapon of choice. A broadsword made out of moonrocks. Sharpened to cut through anything without difficulty. Her sheath was one of the only things her sword couldn't cut through, being made of moonrock itself, along with Celestia's weapon.

Luna had named her weapon Moon Render for a reason.

Preparing herself against the waves of Changelings charging her, Luna began channelling magic to the blade. When they got close enough and the blade was fully charged, Luna dived into the ranks of the black insects. Using her blade as much as her magic. Her magic threw balls of ice at her enemies or cut through them with beams of lightning. Whenever a Changeling was hit with ice, they would freeze over instantly and fall to the ground bellow, more often then not, shattering into millions of tiny pieces upon impact. the lightning would charge their bodies with billions of volts of pure electricity. Soon, the smell of roasted meat filled the air. This only caused the Lunar Guard to become even more fierce somehow. Couple that with the constant blood from their falling enemies and that almost caused them to go insane. One guard often taking on more than 20 Changelings at a time.

Moon Render had been charged with Luna's magic, making the blade go down to absolute zero. Cutting through numerous bodies and freezing any that it got close to. Heads went flying, legs went flying, bodies cut in half, more freezing bugs falling to their doom, and more reinforcements. Luna spotted one Changeling charging at her alone. She smirked at this, after all, what hope does one have when hundreds had already failed. She met the lone Changeling head on, swords clashing making sparks fly off of the Changeling's blade. One advantage to have a sword made of rock is the fact that no sparks came off it from a heavy impact.

The Princess was shocked that her sword hadn't cut through the blade, but that shocked expression turned into a battle-crazed grin.

"GUARDS! LEAVE US ROOM TO FIGHT!" She yelled out in the Royal Canterlot Voice. The Changeling was likewise yelling out commands to it's comrades. Although not as loud as Luna. Soon, an airspace was cleared around the two warriors, both sides agreeing on an unsaid treaty to watch the oncoming fight.

"What is the name of my enemy?" The Princess of the Night asked. She was still yelling, but not in the Royal Canterlot Voice.

"General Alpha, Princess Luna." The General replied in the same volume.

"Some ground rules for our fight. No magic, and no spectators assisting their leader."

"Agreed, Princess."

In unspoken consent, the two warriors charged another.

Link had managed to make his way to outside the current location of residence for Celestia. At times, he would have to engage patrols to get where he needed to go, but managed to finish the fight before it got too loud. After looking left and right one more time to make sure that no other Changelings would emerge, Link entered the room. Inside was a long table with a large seat at one end with multiple other seats running down the side. The one at the head of the table had the picture of a sun on it and the one to it's right had the picture of a moon on it. Those must be for the Princesses. He continued walking past the table and saw a green cocoon on the roof. Link ran over and cut off it's connection to the ceiling. Looking inside, he saw a white Alicorn with a blue, green, purple and pink mane. On it's flank was a picture of the sun. Princess Celestia.

Link quickly drew his sword and start cutting away the cocoon around the trapped Princess. He soon got her free and helped her on her hooves.

"Princess Celestia, your sister Princess Luna sent me to bring you back to the throne room. She wants to retake Canterlot with you I presume." Link informed her.

"Thank you. How do I know that I can trust you? For all I know, you could be a changeling in disguise and are leading me into an ambush." Celestia replied warily.

"She gave me something to say; 'The moon is only a reflection of the raisers spirit. If sad, dim. If happy, bright.' I do not know if anyone else would know this line, but she said that she told you this whenever you ask her about the moon."

Celestia nodded. "That is true. Very well, let's be on our way."

Link nodded back to her and turned to exit the room. That is, until a voice reverberated around the room.

"My, my, my. I don't think I can allow you two to just simply leave now can I?"

Link stood protectively in front of Celestia. The voice only laughed at him.

"Hahaha. So, the little monkey thinks he can stop me? How funny." With that, a bright flash filled the room. Standing in the centre of it all, was another Changeling. This time, it had a crown on it's head and was taller than all the others. It also had a mane with a longer horn pointing through the part in it.

"How about I make an example of you?" It asked.

With a bright flash, Link found himself in another room. This one was bare except for a small pedestal at the end of a red carpet that ran fom the door to the top of the stairs. Off to the side, he saw Celestia stuck to the floor from the same stuff that made her cocoon. On his other side, he saw six other ponies, switching between looking at him and the Princess. All six of them stuck like their leader.

"Now then," The Changeling said, gaining Link's attention. "How about I show these nine nine? what happens when you try to interfere with my plans."

Looking past the bug, Link saw two others on the top of the stairs, both of them stuck. He looked back the the Changeling when he heard a sound like charging. Looking at it's horn, he saw a large orb being created. No doubt to hit him.

"Queen Chrysalis! Stop this at once!" Celestia frantically exclaimed. The other six ponies to Link's left looked on in shock.

"Oh, I don't think I will." Chrysalis said. With a small shockwave from the spell, signifying it had finished charging, Chrysalis launched it directly into Link's chest. He put a foot back to steady himself and put his arms up to protect his face. With a loud bang and a lot of smoke, the spell connected. Link felt a crushing force from the spell being stopped by the pendant and let out a scream of agony, convincing everyone in the room of his death. The young boy was forced to his knees before the spell dissipated, leaving him shrouded in a screen of smoke.

He could hear the Changeling Queen's maniacal laughter sound throughout the chamber.

"And that, My Little Ponies, is what happens to those that interfere." She said after her laughter had finished. She began laughing again, allowing Link to pinpoint her location. Equipping his boomerang, he took aim and threw it in Chrysalis's direction. 1... 2... He jumped out of the smoke and caught his boomerang on it's return, rolling to reduce the impact and to quickly get back to his feet.

After the spell hit Link, 3rd Person POV

Celestia was shocked that Chrysalis had just killed an innocent creature without any remorse whatsoever. Fluttershy was tearing up at an animal being killed while Rarity sobbed into the Pegasus' shoulder. Twilight's mouth agape at the amount of energy in the spell and for the same reason as her mentor. Rainbow Dash looked like she was ready to rip Chrysalis a new one along with Applejack. Pinkie Pie's mane had deflated at the sight in front of her. Becoming a darker shade of pink with the rest of her body.

Only some of them heard Chrysalis's next words. "And that, My Little Ponies, is what happens to those that interfere." With that, she started braking out into laughter again.

The next thing that happened, all of them saw. A boomerang flew from the smoke, leaving a wispy trail from it's exit, taking off Chrysalis's crown. The Queen immediately stopped laughing and looked around for the source of whatever had knocked her crown off. On the return trip, the boomerang hit Chrysalis on the back of her head. Then, out of nowhere, the biped in green dove out of the smoke, catching the boomerang, and rolling into an upright position.

Link's POV

"Missed me?" Link questioned with a smirk.

"But- but- HOW?!" The Changeling Queen demanded.

"My secret." Link answered snidely.

"ARGH!" In that fit of rage, Chrysalis charged at Link, eager to make him pay.

Acting quickly, Link drew his Kokiri sword and Mirror shield and went on the defense. He stopped Chrysalis's mad charge with his shield and swung at her from behind his shield. He managed in nicking her carapace, but not enough to draw blood. It was still enough to anger and hurt the Queen.

"How. DARE YOU!!" She screamed in rage. Links response was to make another slash at her, making her jump over it, and followed through with a thrust when she landed. This succeeded in piercing her right foreleg and drawing blood, make the Changeling Queen limp. She snarled at him before using her horn a sword. Link blocked the weak swing with his shield and used his sword to retaliate. He flipped over the Queen and made a line down her side, drawing even more blood and making the Queen stagger.

Link started to dance around Chrysalis, slashing at her, cutting her, stabbing her and making her slower and slower. Eventually, the Changeling Queen fell to her knees, unable to support herself. Breathing laboured, she managed to say one more thing.

"I... Will... Never... Lose... To... The... Likes... Of... YOU!" At the last part, her eyes glowed white with power, the immense amount of magic healing her wounds. She spent spell after spell at Link, only for his pendant to absorb it or reflect it. Eventually, the Queen changed tactic. She aimed to the roof above Link and started shooting the marble. After enough time, the roof collapsed on Link leaving him buried under a mountain of rubble.

Inside Link's dream

Link groaned and sat up.

"Navi? Where are we?" He asked.

There was no response.

"Navi? Navi?" Link repeated, each time getting louder.

"You won't be able to find your fairy here." A voice said.

"And just where is 'here'?" Link questioned.

"In your mind."

"Why am I here."

"You require some... assistance in your new world. Assistance that would surely not be unwelcome."

"What is this assistance."

"Why don't you wake and find out?"

A bright light flashed in front of Link before dissipating and leaving a familiar sword in a familiar pedestal.

The Master Sword.

Link approached the sword and stood before it once more.

"Again, you will be used in a time of need. Again, you will be used to smite evil." Link said more to himself than anyone else.

He grabbed the handle with both hands, and pulled the sword out of it's makeshift sheath. Bright blue light flashed around Link before closing in on him and bringing him back to the waking world.

In the Wedding Hall

The rubble shifted.

Everypony thought they were hearing things, but then it happened again.

Suddenly, the rubble went flying through the air and landed on top of Chrysalis.

Out of the dust, strode Link. Except it wasn't the Link they knew. This one was as tall as Celestia, maybe even taller, and more matured. In his left hand was a sword with a blue blade and a grey, steel cross guard and grip. The pommel stuck out a little from the handle to signify where it ended. In his other hand, was the Mirror shield. Exactly as it was before.

This time, Link was wearing golden gauntlets, and white undergarments.

The rubble around Chrysalis disintegrated from her anger. "WHY WON'T YOU JUST DIE AND STAY DEAD?!?!?!?!?!?!"

Link smirked, "That would ruin the fun of it." He also had a deeper voice.

He crouched down into a battle stance and readied himself. Chrysalis did the same at the other end of the hall.

As one, the two charged each other and lunged when close enough with battle-cries echoing throughout the castle and the grounds around it.
