A daughters life and purpose

Part 3 Chapter 2

A few Years later….

I let out a loud grumble as I looked at the various stacks of books and scrolls littering my room. I got up from my seat and stretched my hooves. I looked at a nearby clock that stood above my door. I had about a half an hour before my next tutor arrives and teaches me another thing about politics and blah blah blah.

For the past four years, I’ve been living in Canterlot, I’ve been taught all sorts of stuff about being a ruler, governing, and politics. Honestly, I would rather be training with Luna again then doing all this reading and learning. It wasn’t all that bad, the castle staff were a little weary at my presence at first, but after a while, they all got accustomed to me.

It does get a little lonely, though, I wasn’t able to make a lot of friends here sure there are the princesses and a guard and maid or two, but no one my age. My friends were back in Ponyville; I would get a few letter here and there from Juniper. Being busy with my studies it’s hard finding the time to write back to her.

“I wonder how’s she doing today?” It’s been a few weeks since we send each other anything.

And Twilight, oh boy where do I start I get at least three letters a day from her and that’s on a day when she’s busy. Even when I’m asleep, a flare of green fire will spark in the middle of my room dropping a scroll on the ground. The letters varied from ‘how are you?’ or ‘have you been eating right?’ or ‘do you want to come home today?’ There was no end to them.

I let out a small sigh, thinking about Twilight and Ponyville always make me home sick. A small buzz came from my wings as I thought back at my younger years in the small town. I remember the time when Twilight took me to Manhattan with Rarity for a fashion show when I was just a little filly. I’ll admit that it wasn’t as fun as I expected it to be, but it was nice to go site seeing in the bustling city.

A knock came from behind me, turning around I saw a Pegasus, pony guardsman. His coat was brown, and his eyes were a shade of green.

I felt my cheeks warm up at the site of him.

He’s a recruit who just graduated from the academy just last year named Kettle Corn. His mother was an earth pony who was a caramel popcorn vendor, and his father was a Pegasus, who served in the royal guard before he retired.

With his mother being an earth pony his body physique is slightly bigger than the average Pegasus and with his wings being slightly smaller than most.
The princess assigned him to me as my escort and bodyguard. It was pretty awkward between the two of us him being a fresh graduate and me being, well me. It wasn’t until he started to talk to me and ask me questions about being a changeling. I was embarrassed that I couldn’t tell him much since most of what I learned were from the books Twilight read to me about. We started to talk more frequently as time went on and usually when I’m bored, and alone he was always nearby to fix that.

“I have some news from the princess,” He said.

“Please tell me it’s not more homework.” I groaned.

He let out a small laugh and shook his head.

“Don’t worry it’s something you’d like to hear,” he said. “She said that you have a break from your tutoring and training.”

My ears shot up surprised by what he just said.

“Wait?”

“Yup, you got a whole week off.”

I let out a happy chirp and without thinking hug Kettle Corn out of pure excitement. I jump back at my sudden physical interaction with the stallion.

“Sorry,” she said. “I got a little too excited.”

“It’s alright,” he said. “Is there any place you’d like to go?”

I nod my head and walk back to my desk. Using my magic to pullout a letter and a quill, I started to write. Finishing the letter, I cast the same spell Princess Celestia used when Twilight used to send friendship letters. Within a matter of seconds, a green flame erupts in front of me dropping a letter on the ground. I pick up the letter and read it a smile growing on my face as I read. I was excited to say the least, a whole week back at Ponyville with Twilight and everyone else.

Kettle Corn tap my shoulder bringing me back from my day dreaming.

“Would you like some help with packing?”

“Oh, yeah that would be nice,” I said. “I’m guessing you’ll be joining me on my trip back to Ponyville?”

“Of course, I wouldn’t be doing my job if I just up and left you now would I?” He gave me a reassuring smile.

I only blushed a deeper shade of red, I quickly turn away and continue to pack.

Later that day, both Princess Celestia and Luna were waiting for me at the Canterlot train station. I walked up to both of them and gave them each a hug.

“I hope you have fun and don’t forget to say hello to Twilight for me,” Celestia whispered
“And do please try to tell Discord to be cautious when he returns from Fluttershy’s for I am still angry about his prank he did to me.”
I only nodded at her request and entered the train with Kettle Corn following behind me with my luggage. I wave to two princesses good-bye as the train began to leave the station and finally make its long trip towards Ponyville.
Kettle Corn and I settle into our seats as we make ourselves comfortable for the long trip ahead of us.

“So, how this Ponyville place like?”

“It’s awesome, there’s this place called sugar cube corners where they sell the sweetest baked goods of all times, and the apples are freshly grown from a nearby orchard at sweet apple acres.” It didn’t take long for me to go off rambling with Kettle Corn just kept on listening. It wasn’t until the day started to turn dark that we both got ourselves ready for bed on the beds on the train.
I said my goodnight to Kettle Corn and snuggled into my bed. It took me awhile to fall asleep from all the excitement that was bundling itself within me. I can’t wait to see everyone again, I close my eyes, but the sound of another buzz caught my attention, and I opened my eyes.

“My queen, we must go, now!”

“NO! NO! Come on!” Harak grabbed my shoulder, and the two of us were engulfed in a green flame.
