In Need of a Break

Chapter 3: Arrival

Rarity got on the train, happy and bouncing, then gently sat down on a seat on the left side, next to the window. Applejack sat down in front of her.

Applejack didn't speak too much during the four hour train ride. They were both excited, but Rarity was extra talkative that day. She couldn't stop talking about all the things they were going to do in Los Pegasus.

“...and then, we could go to the mall! Can you imagine all the amazing things we'll see there? Oh, we could also go to the–”

“Whoa there, Nelly, slow down!" Applejack said. "Let's decide where ta go after we get there, alright?"

“Sure, sure, darling,” Rarity said. "But I can't wait to get there! Aren't you excited?”

“Of course ah am!" Applejack said proudly. "Ah just think it's better ta wait 'til we get there ta see where we're goin'."

Rarity raised a eyebrow. “Have it your way, then."

After another hour, they finally got there.

“Los Pegasus, here we come!" Rarity shouted, while stepping out of the train

Applejack gasped in surprise. "This place is bigger than Manehatten!”

And it was true. The sidewalks were so crowded that it was almost impossible to trot without bumping at somepony. The roadways were full of taxi carriages, running around nonstop, always with somepony inside. Even limousines full of ponies were seen.

But Applejack noticed something. All the ponies she saw were earth ponies or unicorns.

“Uh, Rarity, where are the–”

Rarity raised her hoof to Applejack's chin and raised her head.

The sky was full of pegasi. They hovered ten feet above them with no problem. The majority of them followed the rules of the sideways and roadways, with special pegasi carriages hovering above the ones in the ground, following the same path. The ones who didn't want to take a taxi to go somewhere really fast apparently could just fly there.

They were both speechless.

“Wow,” Applejack finally managed to say.

“I know right?” Rarity said. "Maybe this is the reason why this place is called Los Pegasus. Not even Cloudsdale have this many pegasi living there!"

“Should we get going?" Applejack said.

“Let's go!" a very happy Rarity said.

With Rarity's help, Applejack was able to walk in the middle of the crowd with no problem. Since the last time they went to Manehatten, Rarity noticed that Applejack had difficulties to walk in big, crowded places, not really surprising considering she lived in a farm. But she Pinkie Promised to herself that she would always help her friend at that kind of situation. Always.

She called out a taxi and they headed off to the hotel.

"That's the place we're staying? 'Cloud Palace Hotel'?”

Applejack gave a confused look at her partner. They were standing at the front door of the hotel, admiring the view. At least Rarity was.

“Of course, darling!" she said. "This is a deluxe, five star hotel!”

“Well, if ya say so…”Applejack said.

The girls entered the hotel and went straight to the reception.

“Hello there, darling!” Rarity said to the receptionist. “Good evening!”

The receptionist was a unicorn. She had a pale pink coat and a curly white mane that was wrapped in a bun. She wore bright red glasses on the top of her head and a slight smile in her face.

“Good evening ladies!" she said in a soft voice. "Welcome to the Cloud Palace Hotel, where you feel like you're in the clouds! My name is Pink Pencil. What can I do for you?

“We want a room for two, please,” Rarity said

“Of course," Pink Pencil said, while lighting her horn to levitate a pencil and a board. She started writing on the board “And your names are…”

“My name is Rarity," Rarity said, "and this is Applejack."

Applejack waved her right hoof.

“Howdy there!”

Pink Pencil looked surprised at Applejack.

“Oh my," she started, "I've never seen a pony like you around here! Where are you from?”

“We're from Ponyville," Applejack said. "It's pretty far away from here."

“Ponyville?" Pink Pencil looked confused "Never heard of it…”

“It's a rather small town," Rarity stated. "But we came here to relax and take a week off from work."

“Oh, I see.” Pink Pencil wrote more things in the board and then got some keys. “Room 163, tenth floor. Here's your keys!"

“Thank you so much, darling!" Rarity smiled while taking the keys. “Let's go, Applejack.”

“Nice meeting ya, sugarcube!” Applejack said.

“Have fun you two!” Pink Pencil said, winking at Applejack.

Applejack blushed. What did she meant with that? Did she think that they were...

[Before Applejack could finish her thought, she bumped into Rarity.

“We're here!" Rarity said happily, ignoring the fact that Applejack just bumped into her.

When she opened the door, they couldn't believe their eyes.

The room was enormous, with a double bed in the middle of the room. What they didn't expect was the fact that the double bed as heart-shaped, with heart-shaped red pillows and red rose petals scattered all over the bed and the ground.

[They blushed, but Applejack blushed harder. She was right. The receptionist really thought that they were a couple! But for Applejack, that wasn't a bad idea. She could take advantage of the situation to reveal her secret thoughts for her partner.

“Oh, my…” Rarity said, still perplexed.

“W-What are we waitin' fer, Rarity?” Applejack struggled to say. "Let's get going in."

“Y-You still want to go there?" Rarity asked.

“Sure," Applejack answered. "Y-Ya don't?"

To that, Rarity blushed even harder. She still wanted to go in there. She wanted to reveal something to Applejack that nopony else knew. But she was afraid of doing it.

“I-I'm coming!" she forced out, trying to ignore her rapid heart beat.

They hung their saddlebags in a corner and sat down on the bed. It still was early evening, but they had traveled for hours, they were pretty tired.

“Well, it was a great day, alright…” Applejack said, breaking the ice.

“Yeah, you're right…” Rarity said. "But tomorrow's going to even better, you'll see. But let's just relax for now."

Rarity put on her sleeping mask. Applejack hung her hat on the side of her bed.

“G'night, Rarity."

“Good night, Applejack."

They laid down in the bed, one beside the other. They noticed that the bed wasn't spacious, so they had to get really close to each other. They were back to back, so they couldn't see their faces. But they were both smiling.
