Epilogue
Rainbow dash was walking down a corridor with steel walls and a dull and dark but sheer grey floor, lights flickering over her head. She was in an underground bunker and had just recently walked down a flight of stairs to get where she is, and no matter how much she hated being down here it was something she had to do.
*sigh* Rainbow dash turned a corner to an emass hall of doorways in front of the hallway a steel and rusted gate enforced with magic stood before her, with a ‘caution’ sign plated on one side. ‘unauthorized personnel will be evacuated from the premises beyond this point’
“Yeah, yeah I’m authorized, so just calm down sign.” the pegasus said swiping a key card over its pad unlocking the gate.
Rainbow dash walked in and stared at the ground, it had only been a few months since Twilight went insane, but Rainbow dash had memorized how many hoof steps it took to get to Twilight’s chamber in the hospital, she did this so she didn’t have to look up and see through the glass windows to the other rooms and look at the other mad ponies. That word echoed in her mind.
“Hospital….” she said softly to herself “More like an asylum…” Rainbow dash heard whimpering and soft sobs from about ten or twelve hoofsteps in front of her. She looked up to find Rarity and Fluttershy, Fluttershy leaning onto Rarity and crying. And Rarity herself looking like she was on the verge of doing so as well.
“Hey guys.” Rainbow said looking at them both, her voice husky and exhausted.
“H...H-Hi R-Rainbow….” Fluttershy squeaked under her breath.
“Hello darling, how have you been?” Rarity said recomposing herself and Fluttershy doing the same.
“I’ve been as good as anypony else, you?”
“We’ve been fine, haven’t we Fluttershy?”
Fluttershy turned to them both taking in a deep breath.
“Uh-huh…”
Rainbow dash glanced behind them to see the princess and Spike standing by a white metal door. She focused her attention back to her two friends in front of her.
“How is ugh, Twilight.” Rainbow dash asked.
“She’s….Normal, as in she hasn’t changed I mean….” Rarity said glancing back.
“Well, me and Fluttershy were going to head to the spa in an hour or so, would you be interested in accompanying us?” the unicorn asked her.
“Ughh, thanks but no thanks...I’m….Busy.” she trailed off. Its was a lie of course, but this time she turned down the offer for a reason that had nothing to do with the fact that Rainbow dash doesn’t favor spa’s. No she didn’t want to go because she couldn’t stand relaxing while her best friend was in the ‘condition’ that she was in.
“We didn’t think so darling. Well come on Fluttershy let’s go.” Rarity and Fluttershy began to walk past her to the steel gate.
“Bye...Rainbow dash.” Fluttershy said in a voice quieter than usual, looking back and then turning ahead once more.
“Buy guys.” Rainbow dash walked towards the Princess Celestia and Spike. “What’s up, I heard she hasn’t changed much.”
Princess Celestia turned to Rainbow dash, towering over her with an expected but still tragic answer. “No.”
Spike opened the door with a plastic key card similar to hers. “You can go in if you like.”
Rainbow dash turned, then she shut the door. “Why can’t we use the elements of harmony to fix her!?” she said.
Celestia sighed. “As I have said before. Because Twilight is PART of the elements of harmony they won’t work on her. It’s a, sort of reverse if you will. They can work on other ponies but you can’t cast their effects on themselves.”
Rainbow dash looked down. “Oh yeah I forgot…”
Spike opened the door again and then looked sadly at what was inside. Rainbow dash took a step into the dark room. The floor was hard but the walls were soft, in the corner a purple alicorn mare in a restraints jacket and her wings were restrained as well. Rainbow dash gulped.
Twilight was shaking and her eyes were cold and dark, on her face was is sick grin along with the twitching of her left ear.
“Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock.” Twilight’s mane was a mess.
Rainbow dash tried to speak, but all that came out was a horse niegh. Eventually she recollected herself to make eye contact and say. “Hey egghead, how are you feeling…?” Rainbow dash asked getting closer to Twilight.
Twilight giggled, and kept repeating the same ticking rhythm out loud.
Rainbow dash put a hoof on her friend's shoulder, though the doctors didn’t recommend it, she didn’t care. “A new daring do book came out today, do you want me to read it to you?”
Twilight’s ear twitched. “I thought you HATED READING.” Rainbow dash smiled a little at the fact that her friend responded to her the way she did.
“No Twilight I love-” Twilight cut her off.
“I’m SUCH A bAd FRieND for making you reaD books that one time” Rainbow dash began to tear up.
“NO Twilight! You are a wonderful friend! I’m the one that’s bad! I haven’t been searching hard enough for you! I’ll go to the end of the UNIVERSE to find a cure for you!” Rainbow dash hugged Twilight as the mare kept repeating the ticking in four’s rhythm.
“I promise.” Rainbow dash said crying on Twilight’s shoulder. She recomposed herself and got up from the embrace she was giving the insane mare and walked out the door, saying goodbye.
Rainbow dash walked past the doors down the hallway, went up the stairs and exited the hospital. As she did so Rainbow dash looked up to the blue sky and narrowed her eyes.
“I promise.”
