Chapter 11 - Into The Fray

"Pinkie..."

"-And then I bounced around the room like a giant ping-pong ball-"

"Pinkie."

"-And all I could think for the entire time was how super-duper hard it was to keep-"

"Pinkie!"

"Hm?"

"It's the middle of the night! You've been doing this for three hours straight!" Rainbow aggressively grabbed the bed covers back from the pink mare, twisting on her side and trying to shut her eyes again. "I mean, half of these stories don't even make any sense. Just go to sleep, Pinkie." Rainbow yawned, rubbing her face into the pillow even further. She felt the bed bounce as Pinkie retreated to her side of the bed.

No matter how much Rainbow twisted and turned, she struggled to sleep at all. She grunted, groaned and sighed in despair at her predicament. Either Pinkie's ramblings were having a much stronger effect on her than she thought, or she was just too restless to even get a wink of sleep. She gave up, opening her eyes. She practically rolled out of the bed and clawed her way to the window, looking out upon the city night lights of Manehattan. It felt like the city never slept to her, with ponies still out and about on the streets, obviously in fewer numbers than during the day. While Rainbow was not usually one to comment on such things, the city looked beautiful to her. Her eyes sparkled as they fell upon the stars that were painted perfectly on the canvas of the city skyline.

"How could AJ ever want to leave this place as a filly?" She smiled softly as her gaze went up and down the streets. "It's so...awesome." Rainbow yawned, laying her head down on the open window frame and continuing to watch Manehattan's night life unfold before her eyes.

The mare woke with a start from the sound of a cockerel crowing loudly. Her eyelids batted and she felt every joint in her body ache. Another loud crow made her jump from her sleepy state. She turned frantically with her back up against the window. Her demeanour changed significantly when she saw the source of the noise was in fact Pinkie. In the middle of the room. In a chicken suit.

"Uh, Pinkie?" Rainbow asked, with a perplexed look on her face. "What's with the getup?"

"Good morning, Dashie!" She chirped, turning to her with a wide smile. "It's time to start go, go, going!"

"Huh?" Rainbow was still rubbing her tired eyes, plodding over to Pinkie.

Pinkie rolled her eyes, grabbing Rainbow Dash in her two hooves and dragging her in until they were face to face. "It's time for the adventure, Dashie!" She said, her eyes looking deep into Rainbow's. The cyan mare couldn't help but feel a little intimidated in the pink one's hooves. "I bet we'll have to fight at least three snakes, two mountain lion's, a human and four centaur's!"

"But we're not even going to a mountain-" Before Rainbow could continue, a pink hoof was forcefully inserted into her muzzle.

"Hush! There's no time to lose!" In a pink blur, Pinkie Pie was gone, the hotel room door barely standing on it's hinges after it's sudden opening. As Pinkie entered the hallway, the other ponies slowly entered as well, all yawning. Twilight looked at Pinkie in bewilderment.

"Pinkie, why are you in a chicken suit?" Twilight asked bluntly, echoing the thoughts of the three other ponies staring at Pinkie with their mouths wide open.

"There's no time to explain!" She yelled, turning tail and pointing her hoof directly to the stairwell. "Once more unto the breach, my friends! Charge!" Pinkie was instantly running down the hallway. Make that, bouncing down the hallway, making Twilight and Applejack giggle.

They all gave chase to the pink pony, quickly rushing into their rooms and grabbing their saddlebags before continuing. All except for Rainbow, who slowly exited her room, still shaken from earlier and staring down the hallway, confused.

"-And what's a human?"
