Black and White and Blue

What... In the-

“Help! Please hear us! Please, we need a god! We can’t survive on our own!” Was the first thing the new entity heard. The vast organism was newly born but understood the words perfectly like a seasoned scholar. It exploded into being and soared from the impossible place of its birth into one of the immense black spheres that floated in the infinite plane of light and mysterious mist. It soared through the edge of the universe and flew past countless planets and stars as it shrank so that it might fit upon the world it approached. It slowed its pace and its senses adapted to the galaxy it entered. It heard the strange feminine voice as it moved its intangible form through the system. It passed numerous planets and went through the edge of the sun as it moved to the other side of the solar system to reach the world it was being called to. Flames burst into life as it descended and formed a mighty fiery tail. It soared on pure energy as it began to pinpoint the location of the cry that had birthed it. It passed through numerous clouds as it descended upon the unsuspecting world. It appeared as a large point of golden light but it was far more than it appeared.

But before it found its mother of a sort, it came upon a devastated land. Smoke belched from the ruins of fallen cities and corpses littered the streets, plains, and forests. Many of the corpses were armored and beside them lay shields and swords, spears, bows, great swords, or great axes. The ones armored in bronze like greek hoplites mostly had either sword and shield or spears but some had possessed bows and a few had massive swords. The entity noticed that the beings were primarily equine in nature, though a few gryphons and dogs along with a single large dragon and a group of minotaurs also lay dead upon the ground and roof tops or walls. As the being swooped back up and headed towards the sky over the center of the great valley it saw two odd figures.

“We’re your conscience, we’re part of you! Our role is to help you be the god you want to be.” The elderly white earth pony sitting on a cloud said before being smacked on the back way too hard by the demonic alicorn that was its polar opposite. The earth pony had a great white beard and a short cut mane, his tail was somewhat bushy but it paired well with his beard to increase the kindly appearance. The alicorn was red furred and had black hair that took the form of a mohawk like mane and a spiky tail. The alicorn had massive bat-like wings and its horn yellowed past the roots, its hooves were sharp edged and looked rather spiky. The earth pony had no irises around its round black pupils, only white sclera. The alicorn had sickly yellow sclera around his dragon-like, vertical slit pupils. The earth pony had healthy rows of blunt teeth that had not a gap between them, the alicorn had spaced out spikes for teeth and they were yellowish with lack of hygienic maintenance. The earth pony wore a simple pale robe with gold bands around his stomach, the alicorn was naked. The earth pony had bushy white eyebrows and wrinkles at the corners of his eyes whereas the alicorn had sunken eyes permanently shadowed with the appearance of having been bruised around them and he lacked eyebrow hair altogether. Now the evil alicorn spoke with his aggressive voice.

“So,” He said as he flew closer and the old pony flew further back, “we’ll guid’ya as you make your godly way through whatevah this world throws atch'ya.” The white earth pony shook his head as his menacing counterpart spoke. He moved a little closer and stuck a hoof into the air to call for quiet as he spoke.

“But before then, you’ll want to learn the basics.” He was right, the god had come to a halt in mid air as it realised it didn’t know how to move itself when it came closer to the earth, just as it had no idea how to manipulate the magnificent world around it.

The demon drifted to the beings left and swatted dismissively, “We’ll help you with all that.” It brought its hooves to its sides and curled them at the wrists before thrusting them forwards with a certain eagerness, “But even more importantly, you’ll need,” It raised them high high into the air and uncurled them in a sort of cheer, “a creature!” It swooped right up to the god’s face and raised a hoof to prevent them from being overheard as it clandestinely whispered to the divine being, “'ey, let’s go and choose one.” And both it and the opposite flew out of sight.

The god followed a road it happened to notice to a valley located higher amongst the mountains. When it reached the end of the road it kept sliding through the air until it saw a group of adorable, yet huge, baby creatures. As it flew towards them the beings that called themselves its conscience flew in from different sides to speak with it.

“There they are.” Declared the elder earth pony, the god decided to call it Good because he seemed rather kindly inclined. “Wonderful aren’t they?”

“You have eight to choose from, but the one you choose will be with you throughout your whole time in this world. So consider carefully, and make your choice wisely.” He continued. The god observed its choices. The bear was at the far left and seemed to be composed of space stuff, he stood on his hind legs and seemed to smile constantly. Just to the right of the bear was an adorable tiger who examined his claws idly. To the right of the tiger was a cheetah who seemed hyped up, he kept dropping down to do push ups and running in place on his feet. To the right of the cheetah was a wood-like wolf, he looked like a young tree given the form of a wolf and kept checking his arms and leaf covered ribs. To the right of the wolf was a big turtle, his shell was dark grey and he simply smiled in his calm fashion. To the right of the turtle was a skinny little crocodile, he had green back scales and pale belly scales and eagerly lashed his tail behind him. To the right of the crocodile was a young eagle with a white head and brown body, he flexed his wings appreciatively. To the right of the eagle, at the end of the line, was a falcon. The falcon had a brown and black face, a grey back, and a pale belly; he simply sat in place and relaxed.

“Let us tell you about these amazing beasts.” Said the demonic alicorn who the god decided to name Evil, it seemed rather violent and aggressive and almost bullied the elderly Good.

“All creatures can be trained to become lovable, mischievous pets.” Said Good.

“Orrr... They could be the ultimate disciplined weapons of destruction and war.” Countered Evil, the god began to notice a trend with them. Evil momentarily rubbed his hooves together in an oddly menacing fashion. He returned his hooves to his sides before he began to speak again.

“Any creature you choose can become these things.” During the course of his sentence he had punched forwards, posed with his hooves outspread like he had some sort of awesome blades sticking down from them or an explosion at his back, and while posed he had raised his left eyebrow and quickly lowered it again. The god felt itself being pulled towards the bear as Evil finished his little speech.

Now Good spoke again, “That’s the wonder of a god’s creature, it can become whatever you wish. All creatures will grow up to be huge and powerful.” The little star bear began to grow bigger, its limbs longer, its neck longer, its snout longer and more pronounced, its frontmost upper canines grew long enough to jut some distance below its lips, its fur became shaggier, its phalanges lengthened with its claws, and it developed an impressive tail. “They can be cute, quirky, pets. Inquisitive and fun loving!” The old pony seemed rather excited at this prospect, especially seeing how he pushed his front hooves off the cloud and shook them adorably. The bear nodded happily and kept smiling.

“Or,” Began Evil and the bear raised its mighty arms and balled its clawed hands into fists which it promptly extended to their full lengths as its stretched its arms out menacingly and loosed a deafening roar. Somehow the god heard Evil’s voice beneath that awesome sound, “They could be single minded war machines.” The bear began to shrink as the god was turned to face the tiger.

“All creatures will be as good or evil as you teach them to be.” Said Good, the tiger waved at the god and loosed a cute meow. Its fur turned to a more brilliant, and truly glowing, shade of orange striped with gleaming black as it made a rapid clicking noise into its palm. It soon placed its right hand over its chest before raised both arms as if in celebration. Whereupon it patted itself on the chest with both hands before lowering them to its sides and turning its head to face the wolf whose eyes began to glow a darker shade of yellow.

“Yeah right, I’d rather they sprint off and perform of a massacre or two,” The wolf’s leafy fur turned dark green and its woody skin a darker brown, “by goin’ into battle!” The wolf’s leaves rapidly turned a dead black and its bark turned dark grey like deadwood. It clenched its claws into fists as Evil went on, “Creatures can live for war,” the wolf closed his eyes tightly and started to growl, “domination,” it raised its muzzle and held it fists high as it took on an expression of demented joy, “and destruction.” It opened its hands in a gesture that suggested one to back off and give him some space to cool off before he maimed you. He let out a whistling breath as he relaxed and returned to his former colors and slightly bulkier shape. He shook and wiped away at himself as if to ward off the evil as Good spoke again.

“Oooohh,” he sighed, “such a shame if you ask me.” The god was turned to face the turtle.

“Mmeeep!” He went as he pointlessly scratched at his sides. Which were protected by his shell.

“Whichever creature you choose will change according to what it learns and does.” Good rather pointlessly informed the mighty god. It had figured that out from the previous dialog. The god decided that it would call itself him, he, or basically male seeing as every living thing it had seen in its entire life was also a male. Besides, it felt odd for some reason constantly thinking of itself as it. He was not sure why he thought that way when he’d had no problem with that in his previous few minutes of life. He had been born thinking of himself as it but decided, for the sake of fitting in, he would change that.

“They all have their own lives but you need to be a responsible parent, and not overfeed ‘em. Eeeugh, you really don’t wanna know what that looks like boss.” Evil more helpfully provided. The god would be watchful of that. The turtle burped, it sounded like a vast number of bubbles bursting in rapid succession.

“So, now its time to choose.” Good said with a grand sweep of a hoof, “Point to the creature of choice to claim it as your avatar in this world.”

Hmm, what to choose. What. To. Choose.

He, I, sighed mentally. This would be a difficult decision to make.

Author’s notes: This is a change of pace, sort of. Mostly I started this based on something else due to my brain giving me no peace until I did. Thanks me! Feel free to suggest a choice and don’t expect consistent updates. This will probably be sporadically updated seeing as I have a more devoted project underway.
