Soaring Rainbows

Second Flight

The Wonderbolts Training Center. Rainbow Dash smiled when she caught sight of it in the distance. Many fluffy clouds were around it, and it was a large, white dome with columns holding it up. Cloudsdale architecture was definitely something Rainbow admired. She flew closer as she got a better look at the many obstacles inside. She then saw a blur rocket through a few of the rings. Her eyes followed it until it slowed. She then saw it was Soarin. Soarin looked over and saw her. A bright smile spread across his face.

"Rainbow Dash! Hi there!" He greeted as he flew over to her.

"Hey!" Rainbow responded as she looked around her. "Where are Spitfire and Fleetfoot?"

Soarin thought for a moment. "In all honesty, I don't know. I know that they went to get lunch together after training, but that's about it."

Rainbow nodded. "Gotcha. Now... what do you wanna do?"

Soarin gave a playful roll of his eyes. "Duh! Fly!" He then spread his wings and took off. Rainbow followed him as the two flew through many rings. Rainbow did a few twists when going through them; she was obviously trying to show how great of a flyer she is.

"Think you're so cool?" Soarin called back. Rainbow nodded.

"I know I'm cool! I'm twenty percent cooler than you would ever be!" Rainbow remarked as Soarin raised an eyebrow.

"Well then... try this!" He then flew down and flipped a lever. The rings then started moving back and forth.

Rainbow got a daring smile on her face. "You are so on!" She remarked as she took off. Soarin hovered beside her.

"Go!" He yelled as the two rocketed off. Rainbow easily got ahead of Soarin as she started doing tricks around the rings. She became absorbed in trying to show off her skills that she didn't realize a ring was right next to her face. When she looked over, the moving ring hit her in the face, sending her falling. Rainbow tried to get her wing muscles to work, but her body was too shocked from being hit.

Soarin watched as she started falling towards the ground. Out of instinct, he took off to catch her. Rainbow had managed to spread her wings so her fall would be slowed down, but she couldn't flap them. Soarin flapped his wings as hard as he could. He soon reached her and flew under her, catching the mare on his back.

Rainbow realized she wasn't falling anymore. She looked down to find herself on Soarin's back. A flush rose to her face as she realized he was carrying her back up.

"Are you okay?" He asked as he looked at her. Rainbow nodded.

"Y-yeah..." she stammered. She then heard two voices coming over to her and Soarin.

"Soarin! I didn't realize you were public transportation!" Spitfire teased as Fleetfoot giggled. Rainbow and Soarin turned to find them hovering next to them. Rainbow realized that she was still sitting on Soarin's back. The muscles in her body started working again as she hopped off his back, her face turning red.

"Sorry Spitfire, but I'm not a transportation device. Rainbow got hit in the face by the moving ring and fell towards the ground. I swooped down and saved her, like any good Wonderbolt would do," Soarin responded as Spitfire gave him a small glare.

"Soarin! I gave you instructions to not turn those things on! You always seem to get hurt by them!" Spitfire reminded as Soarin looked down.

"Uh... sorry, Spitfire. I thought that you meant only when I'm alone I can't turn them on," Soarin responded as he looked back up at Spitfire.

"It's alright. Now, let's not worry about apologizing to each other and fly!" Spitfire responded. She then turned the moving rings off. "Rainbow Dash!"

"Yes, ma'am!" Rainbow responded as she flew down over to Spitfire.

"I'm happy you're alright. But, next time, be careful," Spitfire remarked as Rainbow nodded.

"Of course, ma'am!" Spitfire gave a chuckle to Rainbow's comment.

"Rainbow Dash! You don't have to refer to me like we're training! This is a friendly get together!" Spitfire responded as she nudged Rainbow. "Now, let's go. We have a race to compete in!" Spitfire then flew over to the other two with Rainbow Dash on her tail.

The four flew around until their wings became tired. Fleetfoot was the first to descend.

"I don't know about you three, but I'm tired. It's almost time for Luna to raise the moon!" Fleetfoot remarked as she got a drink of water.

Rainbow looked to the sky. "Wow. I didn't realize it was that late!"

Spitfire nodded. "Same with me. I think I'm ready to go home. I think Fleetfoot is, too."

Fleetfoot nodded. "Yep!"

Rainbow Dash gave a smile. "Alright. Tonight was fun!"

Spitfire nodded. "You said it! We need to definitely do this again sometime!" She then turned to Fleetfoot. "Let's go. We better get a good night's rest before training tomorrow."

The two then took off, leaving Rainbow and Soarin standing next to each other.

"I don't know about you, but I'm going to watch Luna raise the moon from that cloud over there," Rainbow remarked as she pointed over to an isolated cloud. She then hovered to the fluffy cloud. She sat down on the soft substance as the wind brushed against her fur. She sat there for a few seconds before she felt something land on the cloud and lie down next to her.

"It sounds nice to watch the moon rise tonight. I never usually get to spend some quiet time with all the stuff I need to do. Being a Wonderbolt isn't just flying. A lot of boring paperwork is involved," Soarin said as he looked over at Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash glanced back.

"I bet. I still really want to be one, though."

Soarin nodded his head. "Yeah. You'd make a great one."

Rainbow felt heat rise to her face. "Thanks."

The two then saw the moon start to rise.

"It's beautiful. Luna's night is certainty something," Soarin remarked as Rainbow nodded in agreement.

"Yeah. The nighttime is much better now that Luna's back," Rainbow responded. She wanted so badly to scoot closer to Soarin and rest up against him. The moment felt so romantic; the urge was so strong. She quickly shook it out of her head. She couldn't believe what she was becoming. She used to be a rough and tough tomboy, but now... she's turned into a helpless romantic. She stood up.

"This was nice, but I have to go. I'll see you soon!" Rainbow remarked as Soarin sat up.

"Yep! I think I'll stay here. See you later!" He responded as he waved to Rainbow. The rainbow mare then descended from Cloudsdale. She truly did not want to leave Soarin, but she also didn't want the romantic urge she had to become any stronger to the point where she actually rested up against him. That would leave her flooded with embarrassment.

She soon saw Ponyville and swooped down. She hoped that Soarin would come to Ponyville again in a few days. It gets boring when he's not there. She shrugged it off and walked to her home.
