Picnic

Adagio and Sunset were sleeping side to side, it was a quiet morning in Canterlot, sunny but a little bit foggy.

"Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" Sapphire said, Adagio opened one eye and heard her favorite voice shout as the bed started to bounce.

"Whoa, Sapphire!" Adagio grinned as her four year old daughter dove right on top of her, bouncing happily on her stomach. "Good morning sweety, you are up really, really early, cutie."

She kissed Adagio's cheek. "Mom, have you forgotten, today is Saturday and you promised to take me to Canterlot park to see Cynthia." Sapphire exclaimed.

"Yes, I remembered, its just that me and mommy were up last night, singing at our concert away from town." Adagio said, still groggy. But happy thoughts of nostalgia traveled in her mind on what a success that was, Sapphire gave Adagio a deep look.

"So are we going to the playground, I don't want to make Cynthia cry." Sapphire asked hopefully, Adagio looked at the curtained window casting a glow of light. Sunshine.

"Yes honey, just let me get dressed." Adagio was in her camisole.

"Okay!" Sapphire said and ran out of the bedroom giggling.

Adagio stretched and yawned, she then lightly tapped her wife's shoulder.

"Sunset... Sunset... It's time to wake up." Adagio whispered.

"Hmmm, no Sapphire you can't have that, it's too unhealthy..." Sunset said in her sleep, Adagio smiled. She always loved how she cared for their beloved daughter, treating her like a crowned princess. Adagio sighed and kissed Sunset's cheek, with that she woke up instantly.

"G-good morning Adagio" Sunset said in a cracked voice, grinning.

"Good morning love" Adagio said as she held her hand and nuzzled her neck, causing her to blush.

"Where is Sapphire, I could have sworn I heard her voice." Sunset said, looking around the bedroom, Adagio giggled nervously.

"Remember when we promised Aria and Sonata that Sapphire and Cynthia could hang out together in the town's park?"

"Yeah?" Sunset said, nodding.

"Today is Saturday, the play date's today." Adagio said, grinning Sunset looked at Adagio with a puzzled look, until all of a sudden the memory came down like a pile of bricks.

"Oh yeah, now I remember, let's hurry up so we can be at the Canterlot park early, because we scheduled it at 10:00 AM, and it's only 9 AM." Sunset said, Adagio nodded. They both stretched their arms and got up from the bed.

"I'm going to make breakfast for Sapphire." Adagio said.

"Great, after I'm done taking a shower, I can bring out the picnic food." Sunset said walking into the bathroom, Adagio put on her casual clothes and went downstairs and looked at Sapphire who was tapping her feet impatiently, gritting her teeth.

"Mommy, when are we going to leave, see I put on my best clothes and everything!" Sapphire said spinning around, Adagio just laughs.

"Patience... We need to wait for your mother, besides you need to eat your breakfast." Adagio said opening up her cupboard and grabbing a box of chocolate cereal and a plate, pouring the sugary goodness into her bowl and also with milk, Sapphire eat her cereal as fast as she can, chugging the milk in the bowl.

"Finished..." Sapphire managed to say, with some bits of cereal left in her mouth, Adagio sighed, Sunset walked into the kitchen and Hugged Sapphire causing her to blush.

"Honey, I have to make the picnic that I promised Sonata, Aria, and Cynthia, then we can leave okay?" Sunset said with pleading eyes.

"Fine Mommy, but hurry up its 9:30 AM." Sapphire said pouting, Sunset just kissed her cheek, Sapphire sighed and left the room, turning on the T.V to watch her favorite cartoon.

"So what food do you need to pack?" Adagio asked.

"I bought some sandwiches and sugar cookies followed by a small Caesar Salad and a little something special for Sonata, good thing I did the shopping last week, or we would have been screwed." Sunset said pridefully, bringing the food items out of the back fridge, Adagio hugged the back of body.

"I love you so much Sunset, you always know what to do..." She laid kisses on her head and neck, smelling her natural fragrance, Sunset shuddered in delight.

"Aaah, thanks Adagio, you mean the world to me..." Sunset said returning the embrace, they packed all the food in their family picnic basket, Adagio grabbed the car keys.

"Sapphire, were leaving now!" Sunset yelled across the room.

"Yippee!" Sapphire exclaimed jumping on the couch.

"Come on were going to be late" Sunset said, copying her daughters actions from earlier.

They young family went inside their new Toyota Corolla. "Not the front Seat." Adagio reminded her.

"Aw mom, why not?"

"Because your car seat is in the back..." Adagio walked around and gently lifted her into the child seat, buckling her in. "Where's your Doll?"

Sapphire shrugged. "I didn't want to bring her today because I didn't want to get her hair dirty, so I brought my sand toys" She held the toys which were in the car.

"Okay" Adagio said quietly, closing the door and going to the passengers seat. Sapphire was always a tomboy, even though she dressed like a girl wearing skirts and putting on child perfume, Sunset went to the driver's seat and buckled in.

As Sunset drove to their favorite park in Canterlot, she began to summarize her life. She was a twenty-four-year-old with a beautiful wife who proposed to her five years ago, to which she tearfully accepted. A few months after, they needed a child, not one out of adoption. One made out of love. And there came Sapphire who had Adagio's hair and skin color and a combination of both her and Adagio's eyes. They knew as soon as she was born. Their lives would change forever, Sapphire and her mothers were heavily reliant on each other. She was definitely the best thing that happened in their lives.

They arrived at the park as Adagio opened Sapphire's door and carried her to the park, while Sunset carried the picnic basket. All of sudden Sapphire could see her best friend Cynthia playing in the sandlot, with her parents supervising her on the bench they were sitting in, Sapphire gasped and began to wiggle her way out of Adagio's soft grip. She finally succeeded and fell on the ground feet first, she ran towards Cynthia with jolting speed.

"Sapphire!" Sunset called, "don't surprise her!". Sapphire ran to Cynthia and hugged her from behind, nuzzling her ear aggressively. The five year shrieked with joy.

"I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!" Sapphire said in an embrace with Cynthia.

"We saw each other two days ago..." Cynthia mumbled with a grin on her face, Sapphire rubbed her neck giggling.

"Yeah, but it felt so long for me." Sapphire admitted, Sunset and Adagio walked over to Aria and Sonata.

"Hey Guys, your finally here!" Sonata said cheerfully.

"Heh, sorry. We kind of overslept..." Adagio said blushing. It is very hard to be musicians and mothers at the same time, Aria smiled and walked over to Adagio, placing her hand on her shoulder.

"Its okay... at least were here together." Aria said, Sonata eyed the Picnic basket, she licked her lips.

"What are we waiting for, lets eat!" Sonata said jumping. Aria just laughs to what her wife.

"Cynthia and Sapphire, were about to eat the Picnic food, aren't you guys going to join us?"

"No were not hungry, we'll eat later" they both said in unison.

"Okay... Suit yourselves you two..." Adagio shrugged, the two pair of mothers walked on top of a small humpback hill with a single tree on top of it. Adagio placed a white checkered blanket on the grassy area while Sunset grabbed all food from the basket.

"This looks so delicious!" Sonata said with her mouth watering.

"Yeah, you girls really out done yourselves." Aria said nodding with agreement.

"Well... I actually bought this from the grocery..." Sunset said laughing.

"It still looks so good, It was so nice of you to buy all of this for the picnic, THANK YOU THANK YOU!" Sonata said with gratitude.

"All right guys lets dig in!" Adagio said, grabbing a fork.

Meanwhile with Cynthia and Sapphire.

Sapphire waved at Cynthia from the top of the slide. Cynthia smiled and waved back from the swing set. The pair of mothers were still eating, they saved some food for their daughters if they ever came back.

The morning sun was starting to warn up the whole park causing Cynthia to sweat and wipe her small forehead. Sapphire saw this and began to worry, she slid down and faced her.

"Are you okay, you don't seem to fine." Sapphire said.

"I'm okay, its just really hot here, If only I could drink from the fountain, but the water tastes so bad..." Cynthia said groaning.

"Hold on, I'll be right back." Sapphire said going to her mom's for help.

Sonata was munching happily on the taco with extra ranch that Sunset gave her because of her obsession for tacos, it wasn't much later that they were interrupted by Sapphire.

"Mommy," She said. Can I have my juice?"

"Sure." Adagio pulled out one juice box.

"May I please have two of them." She asked. I'm um, extra thirsty."

Adagio looked at her with a puzzled look, but shrugged it off. "I'm okay. You realize if you waste them, me and mommy aren't buying more." Adagio verified.

"I know mommy, I'll drink them." She gave Adagio a smile before she left.

"She's so adorable" Aria thought.

Sapphire ran down from the hill and gave Cynthia the juice box.

"Here you go, one for me and one for you." Sapphire gave her the refreshing beverage.

"Thanks Sapphire, your the best." Cynthia said, smiling softly.

"Don't mention it..." Sapphire took her hand. "Let's go sit on that tree that has a shade on it." Sapphire said while walking both of them to the cool area away from the hot sun, they sat on different sides. They sipped their juice boxes for a few minutes until they were finished till the last drop, the two sat there for a few minutes, until Cynthia interrupted the quietness.

"Sapphire, have you ever thought about what's going to happen when we grow up?"

Sapphire looked at her with an inquisitive look. "What do you mean Cyn."

"Well, we aren't going to be kids forever... Sooner or later we're going to have jobs, what's going to happen then."

"I already know what I'm going to do, I'm going to become a huge musician celebrity like our moms." Sapphire said confidently, Cynthia sighed quietly.

"And..." Suddenly a bright light popped into Sapphire's mind, "You know what?" she sat up, a bright smile as happier than the warm glazed sun. "You can sing with me!"

"What?" Cynthia shook her head defiantly. "Me? No, I'm not made to sing."

"Oh come on Cynthia, you can be my sidekick, we'll make a great team if we sing." Sapphire said, holding her hand and twirling hand.

"You really think so..."

"I know so, we could be even better than our moms!" Sapphire said with a reassuring voice, Cynthia pondered the idea.

"Just you and me, best friends singing together!"

Cynthia was beginning to like the idea, after all. She's literally known Sapphire since she was an infant, she never did leave her to an astray path. Usually telling her good advice on what to do and what not to do. Despite the fact that she was older than Sapphire.

"That's actually a spectacular idea."

"See, I told you would come soon or later..." Sapphire said grinning.

"But where will get microphones" Cynthia said.

"Just leave that to me." Sapphire said with confidence.

Later that Midnight...

Cynthia asked Adagio and Sunset if they could stay the night to which they happily accepted, after placing Sapphire and Cynthia in bed. The young mothers went to bed, Adagio wrapped her arms around Sunset's waist and spooned her, Sunset moaned in delight as she turned off the lamp. In the other room, Sapphire left her bed and went to Cynthia's bed, lightly tapping her shoulder.

"Wake up Cyn..." Sapphire said quietly. Cynthia tossed and turned around facing her.

"W-what, can't you see I'm trying to sleep here." Cynthia said with a low growl.

"I have the microphones..." Sapphire bragged and brought out two of them out of her pocket, Cynthia eye's widened like saucers.

"Where did you get them!?"

"Found them in the basement, I told you that I'll get them."

"But where will we go to sing."

"I found a big black box thing in the basement that we could hook on to it." Sapphire said.

"Let's Go!" Cynthia said as she got off of the bed and followed her downstairs, both being very quiet not waking Aria and Sonata up from slumber, they arrived in the basement and Sapphire turned on all the lights.

"How does this work?" Cynthia said, tapping her microphone, Sapphire pondered for a bit.

"We have to connect the microphone wires to the big black box, I think its called an amp." Sapphire said.

"Okay... Let's see if we can plug the wires to the right hole."

Moments Later...

There was a huge crackling noise so loud that it woke both Adagio Dazzle and Sunset Shimmer from their peaceful sleep.

"What the hell was that?!" Sunset yelled out.

"I don't know, but it sounds like its coming from the basement." The couple wore their clothes and headed downstairs, Adagio grabbed a bat from the closet and rushed downstairs, and what they saw shocked them.

They saw Sapphire and Cynthia trying to plug their microphones in, but failed miserably due to placing it in the wrong audio hole.

"What are you guys still awake, I thought we put you to sleep, and why do you have our microphones!?" Sunset gasped, Cynthia and Sapphire both looked at each other, tears were rushing down their faces.

"W-w-wanted to be like you guys, when we grow up, we have to something with our lives..." Cynthia said, bursting into tears, Sapphire did the same, Adagio and Sunset were shocked at what they were seeing from both of the young girls, especially from Sapphire who never liked to cry in front of them, Sunset felt pretty bad questioning her daughter and Cynthia, so she picked up Sapphire and wiped her tears, Adagio said the same to Cynthia, even though she wasn't related to her. She still felt the need to take care of her like a mother.

"Aww, were so flattered that you want to follow in our footsteps." Sunset said cooing, Adagio nodded in agreement.

"Re-rly". Cynthia said whimpering.

"Of course, but you guys are too young to be singing. You probably don't even know what song to play, you guys have a long way to go and we don't feel like we should deprive you of your childhood, and I know Aria and Sonata will agree with us" Sunset kissed her daughter's cheek.

"Besides, it takes a lot of hard work and hours of dedication. So please, give me the microphones. Okay?" Adagio pleaded with the two young girls.

"Okay..." Cynthia and Sapphire said in unison, Adagio and Sunset both placed them on their beds again and kissed them Goodnight. All that night Sapphire couldn't sleep, she was too focused on her mother's words, she looked at the window the night was filled with beautiful stars staring at her, she clenched her pillow and after a half an hour, she began to fall asleep. Dreaming about the famous singer she would become
alongside Cynthia.
