Chapter 1

Kaa in Equestia.

Chapter 1: What a way to meet someone… somepony, new.

In the jungles of India, on the highest tree, lies Kaa the Snake. Many times he tried to kill Mowgli after Shere Khan disappeared deep into the jungle. This granted Kaa a new chance to have Mowgli all to himself, but interfering bears, panthers, a female man-cub, and a surprisingly tough baby man-cub proved too much. Kaa wanted to be alone and relax. It was surprising that the humans, Bagheera, and Baloo proved to be too much. Kaa reassured himself many times that he fought tougher prey than them, though there is no shame in finding a new strategy.

“A new trick… Something better… Oh, who am I kidding? I am a failure. I am a shame to my forefathers. Oh, this is horrible. What's next? A little flying horse will become too much for me," Kaa said in self-pity.

A spontaneous portal startled Kaa as he began to slither, "What the-!?" A form began to configure from the far side of the portal. Kaa worried, was this, some kind of demon, a monster, his forefathers even? He was too scared to confront it and coiled up, concealing his face. Color began to show as the form advanced. It stepped off the portal, a yellow equine with a pink mane. Fluttershy.

Fluttershy saw the panicking Kaa before her, and blushed. The poor creature was scared, of course this was something he had never seen before. Fluttershy approached him gingerly, "Oh my, I'm so sorry about that. I didn't mean to scare you."

Kaa uncoiled to see a winged yellow creature with markings on its hindquarters. Kaa didn’t know how to react, was he imagining it? Suddenly Kaa remembered he said something about a little flying horse. And there it was, a little flying horse! Kaa couldn't believe his luck. There it stood, before him, the perfect prey. Kaa smiled sinisterly, this his chance to redeem himself to his forefathers was but a slither-length away. Kaa inched closer to the her, “Why, it’s no trouble at all, my dear. I have been so alone without a little, company.” He snickered as he examined Fluttershy from various angles.

Fluttershy smiled, not realizing the danger she was in, "Oh, it's no trouble. My name's Fluttershy, I'm from Equestria."

Kaa gazed in confusion, "Pardon? What jungle is ‘Equestria?’"
"Oh no, it's not a jungle, it's another world I’m from."

Kaa briefly gave a scornful frown, then resisted as to not scare off the visitor. "So, my dear, what brings you to this side of the jungle?"

"Well, that portal over there, Celestia's approval, and a lot of aid from Writing Glory, I was sent here to find a better interdimensional ambassador than... Um… the other ones. I was hoping you would know someone who would do well, Mr… umm, sorry, I didn't quite get your name."

Kaa said, as he slithered around Fluttershy, "I had been called ‘Kaa’ many times before."

"Oh, what a lovely name. Anyway, I came here to find a good ambassador for Equestria. Doing so might re-ignite Glory's dreams of interdimensional travel. So, like I said Mr. Kaa, you wouldn't happen to know someone well suited for being an ambassador, would you?"

Kaa only smirked, and wrapped around Fluttershy, squeaked. "I know someone who is about to turn very sleepy." Kaa tried to hypnotize Fluttershy as his eyes became a hypnotic swirling void, though Fluttershy displayed immunity as she continued to struggled to emancipate herself from Kaa’s binding. Fluttershy gave Kaa the stare, both exchanged their gazes for a while. Kaa with his hypnotic eyes started to twitch, his grin fell, and his hypnotic eyes shrunk. Kaa slowly unwrapped from the surprisingly enabled pony.

Fluttershy raised her hoof and grabbed the shocked snake. Kaa's mouth began to wiggle and whimper in fear, and his eyes grew to huge puppy-eyes filled with terror. Kaa didn’t realize what he was dealing with, Fluttershy gave a stern face, and a stare that said "I am not taking any nonsense from you," as Kaa quickly took note of her resilience.

Fluttershy spoke seriously and loudly, "don't, ever, do that, again." Kaa nodded, "Good." Fluttershy let the frightened snake free of her hoof. "I'll go somewhere else then." Fluttershy walked away, but before she could take off she heard soft sniffling. She looked at the crying pile that was now Kaa. Fluttershy felt remorse, but knew she was only defending herself from the snake. Kaa was a snake, and was doing what came naturally to snakes. After all, there is no such thing as an herbivorous snake. All snakes eat meat, and he was no different or an exception to the rule.

Fluttershy thought she shouldn't have been so rude to Kaa, self-defense aside. She walked towards the hurt creature, who didn't notice. Fluttershy gave a gentle nuzzle on him. Kaa was nervous, yet felt no hatred or foul feelings from the calm, smiling little horse before him. Fluttershy looked at him compassionately and gazed with a mother's love. Kaa felt love from the pony. No one showed him love before, he was used to be hated upon and beaten up, but this creature before him was being kind and forgiving. Loving and tolerant.

Kaa was lost, this was different than something he normally encountered in the jungle. Aside from the obvious she wasn't running away like most creatures. Kaa gave a small smile, suddenly Fluttershy gave Kaa a hug, and he returned it… or at least tried to with his tail, as he lacked arms or legs.

They both broke, Kaa looked away from her at the ground, "May we start over and forget that, uh, oversight?"

Fluttershy nodded, "Yes, by the way I'm Fluttershy. As I said already, I am looking for an ambassador, and I was hoping if you know anypony- excuse me, anyone who is willing and able to put in the effort."

Kaa looked back up at Fluttershy mournfully, "I have to be honest, Fluttershy, I don't know anyone. I have no friends... A heavy price to pay for being a predator. It's a sad, lonely life."

Fluttershy felt sorry for the snake, wished there was something she could do, when suddenly she was struck with a simple, effective idea. "Kaa, I could be your friend."

"You….. Want to be my friend," Kaa was awestruck.

"Why yes. I am very good with animals, and animals from other dimensions are no different, whether they talked or not."

Kaa smiled wider, "Of course. I'm ok with this."

Fluttershy saw the portal shrinking and forced herself to speak, "I'm sorry, Kaa, but I have to go now, and Celestia said I'm only allowed to be on another dimension for so long, until the portal closes. I may have to leave soon.” Kaa’s lonesome frown returned, “But it doesn't have to be like this… I suppose, you could… I mean, if you want to… come with me?" Kaa smiled again and nodded! "I thought you liked that." Fluttershy grabbed Kaa again and wrapped him around herself. Fluttershy wasn't slowed down, as she was able to reach the portal without any trouble.

Meanwhile, back at the portal room…

Celestia, Luna, Writing Glory, and the rest of the mane 6 waited for Fluttershy. Celestia was growing a bit impatient. She had doubts that inter-dimensional travel would be safe. "I knew we should've sent a professional guard first. Fluttershy is taking too long."

Twilight said to herself, "I hope she's ok..."

Writing Glory gazed around, seeing worried faces of everypony, "Guys, I can assure everypony here, that Fluttershy is fine! I sent her to a world where animals talked, and she's good with animals, right?" everypony nodded in agreement.

"But what about the time she couldn't win over the royal garden pets?" Rainbow Dash challenged.

Celestia shook her head, "Sometime after the Gala I helped her with that, I translated to the animals of Fluttershy's apology and intentions. She didn't realize that they were imported and couldn't understand what she said."

Applejack shrugged, "Well, let's all hope she makes it out alright." A series of bleeps and boops are rung through the room.

Writing Glory said triumphantly, "Okay, sweet, that means she's coming back, and she's got an ambassador!" Celestia was worried nonetheless, "Celestia, I promise that I am confident that Fluttershy will bring a good ambassador."

Fluttershy came forth with Kaa still wrapped around. Kaa looked terrified as he slid down from Fluttershy, and fainted. Fluttershy announce contently, "I'm back everypony!" Everyone looked at the fainted snake.

Celestia looked with concern at Writing Glory. Writing Glory said, nervously laughing, "Well, at least, he didn't attack us."
