Chapter 6: Sunset's Story

The meeting kept going smoothly, and it was good to meet my new family, even though after a month, it still was hard at home with my human parents stressed and emotional, made things dark in my house...but this meeting....helped bring light back in; now my sister Sunset Shimmer was going to tell a story, the story of how she and our mother Celestia reconnected after a long time apart due to A: The Anarchist Group, and B: Sunset's attitude due however her upbringing went away from Celestia's wisdom.
"It is, now to start it starts little over a year ago" Sunset said.
***A year and 1 week prior***
"Hey Sunset, wait up!" Rainbow Dash calls out running down the hallway of Canterlot High, backpack barely staying on.
"Oh, hey Rainbow; what's up?" Sunset asked.
"Just wondering what you're doing?" RD said.
"Just out and about, not sure what to do..."
"Really? Wanna just hang out?" RD asked.
"Sure, is anyone else joining?"
"Applejack, Pinkie, and Fluttershy," RD listed.
"Sounds good, what is for Lunch today?"
"Pizza today," RD replied.
"Mmm, my favorite!" Sunset replied licking her lips.
Soon Sunset and Rainbow arrive into the cafeteria where the aforementioned girls were waiting at a table, before reaching there many greeted Sunset with warm smiles and kind words; after Sunset helped take down the evil Sirens known as "The Dazzlings" her popularity was at an all time high and now she was respected and loved by the school.
"Oh howdy Sunset!" Aj said warmly.
"Hey Applejack, what's up?"
"Not much, except perhaps waiting for the friendship games...however I worry how we'll do...Crystal Prep always beats us," Aj said.
"Well who knows? Things may change...however if our powers help it may be cheating," Sunset chuckled.
"True! Our powers would soooo take down Crystal Prep!" RD said cockily.
"Now now Rainbow, let's simmer down; plus cheatin' is no way to compete against somebody," Aj chastised.
"Yeah yeah I know...just that it wouldn't hurt to have some kinduv edge over those guys," RD said looking disappointed.
"I know Rainbow, but playing fair is part of what the games are about," Sunset replied.
"I guess....still would be cool though...." RD retorted.
Lunch went on without a hitch, not much was said but it was great to hang with friends especially since she had none until the five human versions of Twilight's friends befriended her, then the aforementioned recent event she now had her first friends and the High School behind her; the girls were then in the quad during what was left of lunch when all of a sudden her backpack started vibrating?
"Huh....what is this?" Sunset said as she then opened her backpack to find the source, she came across....her magic book Celestia gave her!
"Well, apparently I am getting a message from Equestria," Sunset said opening the book.
"What does it say?" Fluttershy asked.
"It's from....." Sunset's words died in her mouth as she stared at the book, totally unsure what to do, as if basic motor skills just shut down.
"Uh...Sunset? You okay sugarcube?" Applejack asked looking concerned.
"Who's it from?" Rainbow asked, but then Rainbow decided to look over Sunset's shoulder and she too was lost for words at what she saw.
"Is it bad?" Fluttershy asked, noticing that tears began to flow from Sunset's eyes and down her cheeks.
"It-...It's from Celestia...but-...but-...she can't be serious is she?" Sunset said then asking through tear chalked eyes sobbing lightly.
"What do you mean?" Applejack asked looking perplexed.
"Aj, you have got to read this...." Rainbow said looking stunned.
"I'll read it Rainbow, and also...it is a letter from her to me, this is what it says," Sunset said drying her eyes before reading.
"My dearest Sunset Shimmer,
My former student I have failed you. In these past few years I've been worried about you. When you left from day one all I did was cried and blamed myself for everything. You were the only daughter I had left after I sent your brother to an alternate world. As well as my dear sister Princess Luna who was banished to the moon. I failed my family! I tried to stay strong even in my grief, but it makes my old heart happy once more when I heard they you were doing fine after Princess Twilight had reformed you. A weight lifted off of my shoulder as I waited for you to return to me some day soon. Everypony makes mistakes but as a ruler of a country I'm the one who should be blamed and punished no one else! This was my fault! I should have done better when I took you back after giving you away as a foal, please Sunset Shimmer my precious daughter, should you choose come home we can talk and I will tell you what I can.

Sunset's as well the others eyes were in tears, they had never seen such a touching, warm, heartfelt letter such as this; Fluttershy who was also in tears, naturally stood to place a kind hand on Sunset's shoulders as they all then looked at the letter written magically from another world.
"I-....I can't believe it....Celestia's....my mother??" Sunset said in a complete daze, "Why does she just drop this on me now?" Sunset asked in addition.
"Perhaps somethin' came up and she feels she wants to tell you when it's important" Rainbow said.
"That would make sense..." Applejack said.
"Hello girls!" Rarity calls out as she jogged over.
"Hey Rarity! You're not going to believe this," Rainbow said.
"What is it?" Rarity asked.
"Sunset is a princess too!" Rainbow said looking excited.
"How is she a princess?" Rarity asked.
"You know how Twilight said Celestia is the ruling princess in her world?" Rainbow asked.
"Yes.....?" Rarity asked looking confused.
"Well she is her mom!" Rainbow said giving a 'you get it now?' gesture.
"Wha-??......" Rarity said looking stunned with her jaw hanging and eyes wide.
"It's true," Aj replied smiling.
"So...what now?" Rarity asked.
"Celestia said when she is ready, she can return," Rainbow said.
"That's just it....I'm not sure about that..." Sunset said.
"Why?! This is awesome!" RD said.
"Rainbow...it's not that, it's....not only did she have a secret about me....but she wants me to come back and expect me to believe her story?" Sunset asked.
"You read what she wrote, she's feeling bad enough already, she wants to start over and ask fer your forgiveness; she wants to make things right with you again...she forgives you Sunset, now she wants your forgiveness," Applejack said.
"I-...I-....*sigh*....Okay, okay; I will go back...after the Friendship Games," Sunset said.
"At-ta girl!" Aj said hugging Sunset.
"But...I am going to think this over....I have to think of some questions for her when I get back," Sunset said.
***Present Time***
"So...the Friendship Games happened already?" I asked.
"M-hmm, they did; after that I returned home and....*sigh*....it was one of the most beautiful welcomes I ever had," Sunset said smiling.
***After the Friendship Games***
After the Friendship Games, Sunset Shimmer soon was ready to head home, after talking with the Principal she was now heading back to Equestria after years of exile, but not before a tearful yet happy farewell from the friends she made in this alternate human world.
"I'll miss you guys, you helped me continue learning what I failed to learn years ago, before the other Twilight and you...well...you knew how I was. I can't thank you enough for everything girls!" Sunset said tearfully hugging all in a group hug.
"We'll miss you too Sunset, it was an honor to be your friend," Aj said brushing tears.
"I thought you cried on the inside Aj?" Pinkie said.
"These are happy tears Pinkie," Aj replied.
"At least Sunset you have something special to return to when you leave, so you will not be alone," Rarity said warmly.
"You will have a mom, a brother, and the other us's," Fluttershy said.
"That is something I look forward to seeing...I'm just...nervous," Sunset said.
"I reckon your mom is nervous too....havin' you back after a long time probably sounds scary to her as well," Aj said putting her hand on Sunsets shoulder.
"I guess....you know what yeah, it would sound scary to her too; thanks Aj I needed that," Sunset said hugging her.
"Good luck sugarcube," Aj said.
"You too; the same for you all girls!" Sunset said with 'pony' Twilight in human form standing by the portal.
"Hey, Twilight?..." Sunset asked looking uneasy.
Twilight put her hand on Sunset's shoulder then with a warm smile said, "You'll be fine, in fact...this will be very special"
"Thanks Twi" Sunset said as the two finally entered the portal for what would be for both the last time.
***Equestria***
The two finally entered Equestria and what Sunset saw was simple and yet the most beautiful sight she ever saw.
"Surprise!" Pinkie shouted as she fired her signature Party Cannon.
Sunset was speechless....she was inside Twilight's Castle, the decorations were elegant yet simple in design as there were streamers and confetti everywhere with a large banner reading,
WELCOME HOME SUNSET SHIMMER.
"Well? Sunset? What do you think?" Twilight asked.
"It....It's perfect..."
"There's more you know?" Pinkie said smiling ear to ear.
Then the doors to the room opened, revealing two Alicorn mares of majestic beauty, one of which was more than recognizable...she was familiar and as she approached in tears and baring the warmest smile anypony could ever see...it was a smile with a warmth you could almost feel as the elegant Celestia walked to Sunset Shimmer.
"Celestia...M-M-Mom?" Sunset said shakily.
Celestia looked like she had heard something that touched her heart, like somepony said 'I love you' as a foal would say to their parent.
"Sunset...My dear Sunset..." Celestia said, her eyes red from crying...still smiling warmly as she closed the gap.
"Welcome home!" Celestia said hugging Sunset, the two then said nothing as the just cried, held, and nuzzled each other for the first time in over 10 years.
"I am sorry...so sorry....I am happy to be back...Mom..." Sunset said.
"I too am sorry...I missed you so much...Daughter..." Celestia sobbed as she and Sunset hugged more; meanwhile Luna and the others could not help but be in tears as well at the touching reunion between Daughter & Mother.
"I believe...you and I need a talk, I have some questions to ask you," Sunset said brushing away tears putting on a serious face.
"Yes...we do....I promise I will tell you, everything," Celestia said regaining her composure; soon Celestia told her everything she needed to know, and then some.
***Present Time***
"And that, is how mom and I reconnected," Sunset said.
"That day was one of the most wonderful moments I have ever had...It was a proud day," Twilight said.
"That it sounds..." Blueblood said wiping away a tear.
"I agree," Cadence said she too brushing away tears, as well as everypony in the room.
"I feel Pinkie may pull something like that will she?" I asked.
"David....she will do that and then some!" Twilight said beaming, we all laughed at the common fact about the lovable party pony probably planning my welcome home party as we speak.
