//------------------------------// // The Worst Birthday // Story: The Adventure of a Dream Walker // by StormSwirl //------------------------------// The early morning sunlight lighted up the whole Canterlot city. The morning breeze made this day so delightfull for most. Only for one it did not. The young cutie markless mare withholding the name Dream Walker. For the most parts, she wasn't really a morning pony. Or a day pony at all. Dream Walker was one of the clumsiest ponies you're ever going to meet and trouble seemed to follow her everywhere. Not making friends was a rather big flaw of hers, although 6 ponies known very well for their magical friendship ironically seemed to catch her attention. Even after she tried to remember all the lessons she learned through hearing about their adventures, she still sucked with the whole friendship thing. And I mean alot. Again, going back to the morning. Dream Walker woke up in her naturally empty house and went out of her bed. She brushed her teeth and mane and fixed herself a sandwich for a later brunch. Now what she needed is to not be late again. The clumsy unicorn made her way out to start her unusual day. What's so unusual about it? Well the most unusual part for now must wait. The pony didn't even think about having her luckiest day today. Actually, all she could think about now is to see her three only friends that accepted her as one of them... Well, almost... Dream headed directly to the library to leave some books and then she would go to the "Tasse de thé" fancy cafè to meet up with her small amount of friends. Still better than nothing, right? The unicorn was so excited to meet with them and see what they are up to! Why? Because it was a special day for her. Can you guess what? No? Her birthday, how come you forgot? Anyways, back to the story... As the walking disaster was getting to her destination she saw her friends sneeking carelessly out the café and whisppering things, looking around for may somepony see them. One of them saw Dream Walker and with a surprised and slightly worried expression notified the others as they all quickly started running away with scared expressions on their stuffy faces. With not knowing what to do, Dream chased after her friends and knowing a shortcut, she went in another direction . As the other three stopped to look around and seeing that nopony was chasing them or anything they relaxed a bit.... Untill they turned around to see that Dream was right in front of them, startling the living angels right out of them. -"Can somepony explain what is going on here?"- the dark blue unicorn asked. One of her so called friends, a unicorn sporting a white coat and blue mane stepped backward and with even more scared expression than before giggled nervously: -"Oh, nothing! Nothing's going on whatsoever!" Dream Walker didn't believe that even for a second. What was happening with her friends? -"Seriously, why are you all so obnoxous all of a sudden?" What if... they were running from her!? And didn't want to be her friends anymore!? Oh, no, no, don't panic, they just... made a surprise for my Birthday, that's probably all! A purple pegasus with the same purple colouring of her mane stepped forwards: -"W-well the thing is...that you don't... quite fit in... with us... or anypony else whatsoever..." Oh, no -"....R-really? Y-you mean... I'm no longer your friend??" Dream Walker could only stay still at that moment, thinking about this whole situation. They don't like her. They don't like her a bit! Tears started slowly dripping out of her eyes. They don't care about her. Feeling uncomfortable seeing their ex-friend cry, the three mares stepped forwards. One of them tried to touch Dream: -"Dream Walker, are you oka-" -"NO!"- screamed out loud the dark blue unicorn. "No, I'm NOT okay!" With more tears dripping from her eyes she ran away. Where? Away. Well, for now at her home but still away from those so called friends of hers. The young mare went in home early today. She tried her best to distract herself from everything. Read a book, play a game, eat something, read some more, even think about what one of her idols, the Princess of Friendship, might do. When you think about it, what will everyone else do? As the sun went down and it became night, the filly immediately went in her room and quickly jumped in the bed covering herself with the blankets. She couldn't stop thinking of all her failed attempts to make friends, or at least, to make them stay. Like the time she accidentally ruined a friend's party, and another time she cooked a meal for two mares she thought she had things in common and accidentally started a fire! Now the mare couldn't see a reason why those three ponies left her. Not fitting in? Was this actually a good reason? Was it possible that she actually fitted in well, but the rest didn't? No, no way it was that. They were right. Dream never fitted in. Maybe because of her lack of a cutie mark? Maybe when I get my cutie mark finally, it will be something about loneliness or clumsyness... Will I ever make a true friend? Will anypony ever like me for who I am? Or am I going to screw up at everything... Psh, my name should be "Screw-up Disaster Blank-Flakenstain" instead of this so unrealistic to me ironic joke.... I hate my life. I suck at almost everything. Why... A tear drop fell from her eye ... Why can't I be... like them... Ponies to search on my honest opinion like the Element of Honesty... to believe in me bringing them the win like the Element of Loyalty... to accept my thoughts and opinions like they would with the Element of Generousity... to be kind like the Element of Kindness... or for me to bring fun like the Element of Laughter... And the Element of Magic and Princess of Friendship? Oh, it would be impossible to match her in her knowledge of friendship... Dream started crying and after a bit, the sadness tired her and she fell asleep.
