//------------------------------// // The Cellar // Story: Tome // by DeviousNights //------------------------------// Twilight Sparkle stood in the midde of a dark room, only illuminated by a single florescent light bulb hanging in the middle. Dusty books were strewn across the floor, some yellow stained pages tearing onto the floor. As she surveyed the room she noticed that very dirty bookshelves stood about 6 feet , books covering them. She noticed that there were many spaces in between books, more than likely being the ones on the floor. Her horn sparked, illuminating the room with a purple hue as she levitated a red book to her face. Inside were many illegible symbols and some words, which made no sense. She did, however, notice that two words were being repeated multiple times throughout the book. "Arc" and "Fire". In te book to the right of the page she was reading was a picture of what seeed to be a human in a robe setting something or someone on fire, with the book in his left hand. The picture had a giant red "X" splotched across it. The next page depicted basically the same thing, but this tie the flame came straight from the open book that the man was holding. Soon after closing the book, a certain purple dragon climbed down the stairs. "Twilight we're out of bubble ba-" Spike complained before noticing where they were was somewhere new to him. "Woah... how'd you find this place?" Spike mumbled, wide eyed. "I was reorganizeing the books in my room. I never touched them, considering they aren't mine. And when I pulled out a book named Tomes, the bookshelf slid to the side." She explaied, noww transversing the cellar quietly. She levitated a black book up to reading view. It had a certain marking on it, which it shared with the last book. She began to skim the book, again finding a common word, this one being "Nosferatsu". On the right page was a picture of someone in a hood holding his arms outwards as another person seemed to be covered in black flames. Spike shuddered. "Twilight, this is weird. I don't think we should be down here..." Spike said, gently tapping his index claws together. "Hold on Spike." She said as she levitated yet another book, this one, akin to the other ones, but colord a hue of yellow. This one, unlike the other had 4 phrases repeated. "Thunder" "Arcthunder" "Elthunder" and "Thoron". There were no pictures on the right, but there were numbers and more unknown symbols, which seemed to be like directions for using the spell. She looked them over, seeing the directions labeled one through four with the spells next to the numbers accordingly. She stacked all 3 books on top of each other and began to head upstairs, before looking back one last time. On the back wall hung a sword with a lightning bolt like shape, teeming with yellow electricity. The sword in it's entirety was also yellow, a large contrast to the bronze sword that hung right next to it, which looked like somewhat of a different contrast from the bright, electricity infused sword hanging next to it. Sparks began to coe from both swords as Twilight stared at the two in half curiosity, half scared. look. At this point, Twilight was legitimately terrified. She hurried up the stairs and used magic to slide the bookshelf back in place. She put her back against the bookshelf just in case something was after her. She sighed a worried sigh. "Twilight, what in the world was that?!" Spike asked, looking into the bedroom halfway. "I'm sure there's a logical explanation for all of this." She set the books onto her bed. "Come on. We have to tell Celestia. "Good idea!" Spike said, wiping sweat off his forehead. "I thought you might try out one of these." Twilight put a hoof to her chin. "It couldn't hurt to try one of these spells out." Twilight said smirking a bit, exited at what sorts of spells these may be. Twilight began to walk outside, but was stopped by Spike holding onto her hoof. "Don't do this Twilight! You don't know what those do!" Spike said panicking. Twilight rolled her eyes. "I'm just going to try to use one of these. It's not like it could destroy the town or something." Spike looked forward, raising an eyebrow as if looking at an audience. Twilight finally shook Spike off of her as she walked outside, sliding her double door open. At the top of the stack was the red tome. She decided to use this one, since it was on top. She levitated it in front of her, looking at the pictures, looking at what the man was doing and trying to mirror it with her own body. Ponies walking by her gave her weird looks as it looked like she was doing yoga in the middle of the morning. A few of them mumbled to each other and some just pretended not to see her. Spike walked in front of her. "See the spells are outdated, now we should just go to Celestia and-" "Spike get out of the way!" She said getting annoyed. Spike crossed his arms defiantly. "Not moving unless you stop." Twilight's eyes began to emit a black smokey hue. "Fine then! Arcfire!" She yelled as the book emitted a giant fireball, which proceeded to hit spike, creating a giant pillar. The flame sontinued to burn Spike before finally exploding, knocking Spike backwards into a wall, busting a hole in it. Spike was knocked unconscious. Ponies around the area stopped what they were doing and looked at Twilight in awe. She would never do something like this. Her eyes suddenly snapped wide open as the black hue disappated. She fell to the ground nearly unconscious, before looking at Spike's unmoving body. "S-spike..."
