The Return of Midnight

Change Awakens

Princess Luna looked up at the stars and sighed. It has been 1009 years since I have seen him he just can't be alive, but I just can't shake this feeling that he is still out there somewhere. Luna let her head fall to the balconies' railing as she remembered the dreaded day that her childhood friend turned up missing and his mother dead on the floor of his house. She also remembered that was the first day she had ever felt hatred toward her sister. Celestia had said that the search was just a waste of time and who cares about one little peasant colt anyway. Suddenly Luna felt a powerful shift in the magic around her as if the stars in the sky around her were no longer under her control.

Meanwhile in the EverFree forest a set of purple and silver speckled eyes opened in the darkness and stars filled the whole forest shining more brightly than Luna had seen in over a thousand years. Luna swiftly took wing to deal with whatever or whoever had dared to take control of the stars from her. As she arrived in the clearing which the magic emanated from she saw a lone figure standing in the darkness surrounded by stars. "Reveal yourself!" shouted Luna at the stranger. "Step into the light at once!" Luna said and as she did so the stranger stepped forward slowly. As the pony came into sight Luna gasped! It couldn't be yet it was, there was no mistaking the shock of black untidy hair streaked with red and purple and the purple eyes of her childhood friend that she had thought dead long ago. "M-Midnight?" asked Luna still in shock that he was alive. The pony seemed to smile at this before collapsing to the ground. Luna ran to his side to see what she hadn't seen before. Hundreds of cut and puncture wounds all along his body from the wounds she knew that it was a hydra that had wounded him so maybe even more than one. Luna quickly picked up Midnight and set him gently on her back and flew back to the palace as fast as she could. Her questions could come later right now he needed medical attention and the best pony she knew for healing magic was her sister. It was 3:00 in the morning, but she hoped her sister would understand.

Midnight awoke to find himself laying on the softest bed he had ever lain on. As he heard muffled voices approach the door to the room he was in he quickly got up and stretched and walked to stand behind it. He wanted to land a surprise attack on whom ever his kidnappers were before they caught him so he could escape. Sadly he didn't think that they would open the door all the way. The door slammed open and straight into his nose. "Urg" Midnight grunted as the door hit him. Luna walked in and looked behind the door to see what the grunting noise had come from only to find Midnight standing behind the door rubbing his nose with his left fore hoof.

"What are you doing back there!" exclaimed Luna as she pulled him gently back to the bed and told him that he was in a spare bedroom in the castle as she changed his bandage wrapped around his torso . You see Luna had managed to carry him all the way back to Canterlot Castle hoping that her sister wasn't too sleepy to help, only to find her wide awake in her bedroom reading a letter. Thankfully Luna's sister had agreed to help her as long as she explained who the colt was. As Celestia worked to heal his wounds Luna told her about her old playmate from before her banishment. As Celestia listened she noted the many parallels between the colt she was healing and the one in Luna's story though the one in front of her looked to be eighteen years old not 1018 years old.

Luna finished changing the bandage and proceeded to ask him some questions like when his birthday was and where did he live. She finally came to the question she had been waiting for. "What is your name?" asked Luna.

"My name is Midnight Fire." answered the colt. Luna gasped. It had to be him it had to be her old playmate from over 1000 years ago, but how could he still be alive? Then Luna noticed the horn on his head noting that he also had wings on his back. Then she remembered that he had been controlling the stars and that Midnight had been a Pegasus pony last time she saw him. He couldn't be, but he was Midnight. Midnight was an alicorn.
