Enter! Petite mystery.

Sunset looked down at Ruby's pale crimson form, as the mare slept peacefully. She wondered why Ruby fainted anyway, maybe from the remembrance of that incident or because of her exhaustion. She didn't know and that made her worry. She brushed her golden hoof over Ruby's dyed pink mane gently, as to not wake the poor mare up. She then leaned down and gently, very gently, kissed Ruby on the lips, feeling her twitch slightly.

Purple eyes slowly open to meet Sunset's brilliant blue sea eyes. Her weak, stuttered voice followed shortly after. ''S...S-Sunset.....''

''Ruby? Your awake.....'' mumbled Sunset, as she gently hugged the mare. ''Thank goodness.''

''...What happened?'' mumbled Ruby, as she forced herself to sit up.

''You were talking to Trixie's mom and when you mention the incident, you suddenly fainted. I figured it was for exhaustion, but it might have been the memory of that....I sure wouldn't want to remember something like that.'' Sunset hugged her, trying not to hurt her marefriend in any way.

''...I see...''

''Don't worry about it much. Hey, I have a idea, why don't you and I go down to the library?''

''....L-library?!''

''Yes, library. I already know where it is, so how about we go? Rosie?''

''....Wait, are...you um...asking me...on.....a...date?'' questioned Ruby, curiously and slightly surprised by the nickname if her blush was any indicator.

''No!....wait.....yes....maybe?'' mumbled Sunset, getting quieter with every word spoken.

Ruby grinned and giggled a little at Sunset's shyness, and pecked her on the cheek, making Sunset blush a deep scarlet. This only caused her to giggle and grin more. She then said, with a teasing undertone to her voice. ''Well, then. Shimmer, how about we get on with that study date?''

Sunset blushed darkly and mumbled. ''Meanie...''

''Learnt from the best.'' Ruby smirked, almost evilly.

''...Your a demon...'' muttered Sunset, under her breath so Ruby didn't hear it.

''Let's go, then.''

The two got out of bed and wandered outside. Sunset left a note saying where they had gone, in case they didn't return before anyone woke up. They wandered through the city, it was pretty early as the sun had only just risen and so the horses and buildings were dyed a bright sunset orange.

The library wasn't a far walk from Trixie's parents' home, but they never made it as a sob filled scream was brought to their attention. The two ponies looked at each other and ran off to find the origin of the scream, using Sunset's tracking spell. What they found wasn't what they expected.

A little, very little and skinny filly was running from a large, full-grown stallion. Tears filled the filly's ruby red eyes, as she wordlessly mouthed the words 'help me'. She was coated in so much dirt and blood that the mares couldn't even see her coat color or her mane for that matter but to them, her appearance wasn't the problem.

''Leave her alone!'' cried Sunset, as she formed a fire shield around the small filly, noting that the child had stopped upon seeing the sea blue colored magic.

''Don't butt in.'' yelled the stallion. ''You cannot tell me how to treat my own daughter.''

''Your obviously scaring her.'' said Ruby, as she wandered next to the filly, hugging her as a fire shield evaporated. ''Your her father, aren't you? Parents are meant to care for their children, not scare them.''

The small filly looked up at Ruby, wondering why these strangers were helping her. The tears that stained her cheeks began to run dry as she began to understand that she was safer with them. Ruby looked down at her, whispering to the small foal. ''You will be okay now. I won't let him hurt you.''

Sunset shot a fire ball at the earth pony stallion, and said. ''Why are you treating your own daughter like this? Don't you understand that children aren't toys that can be threw away at any point.''

''If she had been born with a normal coat color, mane and eyes then I would have loved her. But no, she had to be born a albino. Albino's aren't right, their weird creatures. And it's her fault that my lovely wife died!''

''What your doing isn't morally correct.'' cried Sunset, as she shot a few more fireballs at him, which all hit him.

''Fine, do what you want with her. Drown her, bash her in the head. I don't care anymore, as long as that mentally retarded, albino coated demon is out of my life.'' said the stallion as he threw his knife, which he had tucked in his black coat pocket, at the filly and Ruby.

Ruby watched with shock, as the filly took the knife for her. The filly coughed up blood as she landed in Ruby's arms. The knife wound dug deep into the filly's chest, leaving Ruby in complete shock. Sunset growled, yelling. ''What the actually buck!? You could have just killed your own flesh and blood!''

''Enough about that, Sunny. We need to get this filly some medical attention.'' cried Ruby. Sunset glanced back at her, nodding. She reluctantly followed Ruby, who used telekinesis to carry the small foal. They ran as fast as they could with the dying filly in Ruby's magical grip, they were so glad that their new home wasn't too far away.

Ruby looked up at the filly, panting, as they finally made it back to the house. With a few tears dripping from her eyes, she whispered gently to the tiny foal. ''Please survive, little one.''
