No Matter What Happens

The Storm

The thunder roared as Celestia stared out of the large bedroom window. She smiled as she watched the rain patter down, streaking the glass, and blurring everything until it was just a mash up of colors. This downpour was long overdue, as it had kept being rescheduled, due to stuck up nobles complaining about their poor garden parties. Eventually, Celestia had given up trying to compromise, and set it to today. No ifs, ands or buts. She was happy it had finally happened, even if it did mean canceling that meeting with the Boloben nobles. Especially if it meant canceling the meeting with the Boloben nobles. Celestia was in no hurry to listen to several stuck-up stallions and mares complain about trivial matters. The last time they came, well the last time they came they had spent about 4 hours complaining about the quality of the old statues scattered around Canterlot. They had been convinced that they were too old and decrepit to still be standing, and that they should be knocked down in exchange for some better, more suitable art. For example, a 20 foot tall statue of the eldest son, Aura Boloben. She rolled her eyes as she remembered that particular frustrating afternoon.
She smiled and stood there, in front of the window, just enjoying this moment of peace. Time seemed to have halted. There were no ponies out and about unlike the normal bustle of a clear day, and most of the shops were closed. It was nice.
As she relished in the peacefulness, a particularly loud thunderclap shook the castle, and Celestia heard panicked hoofsteps running closer. As she turned around, the door burst open and a small blue filly with a light blue mane dashed in. She had a moon and stars surrounded with a splotch of black ink on her flank. A small pair of wings were tightly squeezing her torso and her ears were laid back. She ran up to Celestia and collapsed in a small heap around her back right leg.
"Luna?" Celestia smiled softly. Luna lifted her face to look at her, and just at that moment, another thunderclap rang out and she yelped. Celestia pried her off her leg, with some difficulty, and bent down. "What's the matter, Sister?"
Luna gasped for breath for a few seconds, and then, slowly, started to calm down. Then, she looked up at her sister and started to talk.
"Tia, can you raise the sun again? I don't like the thunder! It seems like it will never end!" Her eyes pleaded with Celestia.
A soft smile crept onto Celestia's face as she embraced her little sister in a hug. "Do you want to see something?"
Luna's face screwed up in a questioning gaze as she stared up at her big sister. "What?"
Celestia stood up and Luna soon followed. Luna followed her big sister as they walked through the familiar hallways. Randomly, flashes of light and loud claps would occur, startling her, and making her jump. Celestia brought Luna through the kitchen, around the ballroom, up a flight of stairs, and then through a maze of hallways that Luna couldn't seem to remember exploring. By now, Luna was less afraid of the thunder, and more curious as to where she was going.
They came across a tall flight of stairs, which Luna never knew was even there. Without saying a word, Celestia started climbing the stairs, and Luna quickly followed. After a long time, the stairs didn't seem to end. In fact, Luna was almost positive that they would go on and on forever, and Tia simply brought her there to take her mind off the storm outside.
To keep preoccupied as they climbed, Luna admired the stairway. The railing was a pale soft grey, and it was covered with tiny raindrops, engraved into it. As they climbed, she noticed that the grey was slowly turning into a dull gold, and the raindrops gave way to suns, scattering the railing.
After what felt like forever, they finally reached a door. It was a small door, and Celestia had to squeeze to get in. When Luna entered, the first thing she saw was an enormous part of the back wall covered with red velvet curtains. The entire room wasn't that big, it was quite small actually, but some cream colored pillars by each wall, and the tall looming ceiling with puffy white clouds speckled on it made it feel as if it was a brand new world, tucked away in some small corner of the universe.
The floor was a dull tile, and the tiny blue filly was amused at the tapping sound, made when she trotted in.
As Luna admired the room, Celestia headed for the curtains. She called her little sister over, in front of the of the deep red curtains and, using her magic, tore them down.
Piercing sunlight shone through, making Luna squint to see out. Then she gasped.
Out of the window, she could see the weather pegisi zooming around, and she could see the sun. They were above the storm!
Her big sister walked over and kneeled down besides her. With her eyes on the window, she smiled and started talking.
"No matter what happens, no matter how terrible life might seem, and no matter how much you might want to give up, there will ALWAYS be a bright side around the corner. Sometimes, it just takes time to discover it. And I will always be there to help."
Luna beamed as she watched the ponies outside, working hard to make sure everything went to plan, and a warm fuzzy feeling shone inside.
"Thanks." She murmured, and Celestia wrapped a wing around her. "I love you Tia." Luna smiled up at her big sister. Celestia smiled back.
"I love you too Luna. "

[ 500 Years Later]
"
Celestia stared out of the window, above the city, above the clouds, above any royal duties she was responsible for. A soft, grim, bitter smile adorned her face. A tear streaked down her white fur as she looked up at the shadowy silhouette on the moon.
"No matter what happens," she murmured, "I will always love you.
