Episode 4: Cupcake Motivation

“It’s so hot!” Rainbow Dash moaned while wallowing on the floor of her bedroom. Instead of her usual attire, Rainbow Dash wore her usual t-shirt and leggings but not her jacket or her skirt. She reached for her phone and dialed Applejacks number.
“Hello?” Applejack answered.
“Hey Applejack. I was wondering if we can move our study session to my house?”
“Oh that’s too bad. And Pinkie Pie was going to make some cupcakes too.”
Rainbow Dash immediately jumped up and put her shoes on. “I’m on my way!” Rainbow Dash hung up her cell phone and ran out the door with her backpack to Pinkie Pie’s place. Once she reached the doorstep, Pinkie Pie opened the door.
“Hi Rainbow Dash! We were just getting ready to start,” Pinkie Pie said welcoming Rainbow Dash to her home.
Rainbow and Pinkie went upstairs to her room where the rest were waiting. “Glad to see you can make it,” Applejack said, “What made you change your mind?”
“I came for the cupcakes!”
“Well you can get your cupcake when you do some work.”
“Fine,” Rainbow Dash groaned as she took a seat next to Applejack.
The six girls worked in silence for about five minutes until it was broken. “What does this word mean?” Rainbow Dash asked Applejack.
“Rainbow,” Applejack said as she glanced at the workbook.
“No seriously. What does “arco iris” mean?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“I am being serious! It means Rainbow!” Applejack exclaimed.
“Oh, it means ‘rainbow’.” Rainbow Dash said.
“I would think you would know that considering that’s your name,” Applejack said sarcastically.
“Why don’t we move on from Spanish?” Rarity said breaking up the argument.
Once again, the six worked in silence until it was broken. “It’s hot,” Rainbow Dash moaned, “Why don’t we get some refreshments?”
“But we just started,” Fluttershy said.
“I know but I just thought if we had something now, we wouldn’t have to wait until later,” Rainbow Dash said.
“I don’t get it.”
“Rainbow Dash! Stop hampering!” Applejack snapped.
“I’m not hampering!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed.
“You don’t even know what that means, do you?” Applejack asked.
“Of course I know what it means. But just incase everyone else doesn’t know, why don’t you give a definition, two synonyms, an antonym, and use it in a sentence.”
“You’re pathetic,” Applejack said.
“It was worth a try,” Rainbow Dash said.
Once more the six worked in silence until yet again, it was broken. “Hey Applejack, can you help me with this math problem?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“I’m not helping you this time,” Applejack said as she got up from where she was seated.
“Please!” Rainbow Dash begged.
“You know what? I’m going to get a cupcake,” Applejack said trying to escape the room.
“Can I get one too?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“Not until you do one of the problems on your own.”
As Applejack left the room, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Sunset Shimmer followed.
“Can one of you guys get a cupcake for me?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“Sorry Rainbow Dash,” the four said as they left the room.
“How am I going to do this on my own?” Rainbow Dash asked herself. As she looked around the room, she spotted Sunset Shimmer’s book. “I know! I’ll ask Twilight.” Rainbow Dash ran across the room and pulled out the book out of the bag. She turned to an empty page and began writing.

Dear Twilight,
Rarity sells necklaces for $20 each. She sold 30 necklaces last month. If she put a 10% discount to the price of the necklace and sold 10 more, how much additional money would Rarity make?

Rainbow Dashed closed the book in hopes that Twilight would answer soon. Almost instantly the book began vibrating. Rainbow Dash opened the book and read the message.

I know that is you Rainbow Dash. I can’t give you the answer, you have to solve the problem on your own.

“How did she know it was me?” Rainbow Dash asked in shock. Rainbow Dash closed the book and returned back to where she was sitting. A few minutes later, Applejack and Sunset Shimmer returned to the room.
“Did you solve any of the problems?” Sunset Shimmer asked.
“No,” Rainbow Dash said in a flat tone.
“Rainbow, I know you only came for the cupcakes. I’m only asking you to solve one problem on your own and I will give you a cupcake,” Applejack said.
“Fine,” Rainbow Dash groaned. As she skimmed through the book, the floor began to shake. The lights flickered on and off briefly and then turned completely off.
“What was that?” Sunset Shimmer asked.
The three ran outside and met with the rest. The city was darker than usual and the street lights were off. The six waited outside until the power came back on. When they were back inside their phones began to make noises. “Looks like school is cancelled tomorrow,” Rarity said as she checked her phone.
“Does that mean the tests are cancelled?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“I guess so,” Sunset Shimmer said.
“Does that mean I can finally have a cupcake?”
“Yes Rainbow Dash. You can have a cupcake,” Applejack said giving up.
Rainbow Dash immediately ran to the kitchen and grabbed a cupcake. “Finally!” Rainbow Dash said stuffing the cupcake into her mouth.
“But that means you have to study all day tomorrow,” Applejack said.
Rainbow Dash’s eyes widened. “Please don’t make me.”
