//------------------------------// // A Helper Indeed // Story: Wyvren // by DeadlyPegasister //------------------------------// Dear Spirals, I wish for you to come visit Canterlot immediately. I have a simple matter to discuss with you. I'd hope for you to be here soon, but whenever you have time, come. This matter is important, so be here as soon as possible. Please, do bring your friends, the bearers of the elements. Love, Mother. "What could this mean, guys? She says it's simple, then says it's important! Ugh, Mo-o-o-om! Why can't you be more understandable!" "Hmm... Maybe it's a... a harmony problem? Should we all go?" "Well, it does say 'bring your friends, the bearers of the elements.', so I think it's a very important problem. We should head out tomorrow, start packing today. Bring your elements, just in case. See you tomorrow at the train station!" "Okay, uuh," a violet alicorn began to whisper, "Peni, Josie, Aqua, Flitter, Pom - Okay! Good, we're all here, we've got our elements in our suitcases-" The alicorn patted a brass suitcase, "and we're ready for anything! Let's go." She lead the five other ponies onto the train to Canterlot. Once they got to Canterlot, the ponies immediatly went to the castle. Princess Celestia was sitting in her throne, a new one sitting next to her for her sister, Luna. "Spirals! Oh, thank goodness you came-" "Mom, what's the important matter? Is it a harmony problem, a monster? We've got the elements-" "No, my little pony. Come, Luna and I will take you to her." "Her?" "Yes, Spirals, her. As in a female creature." "Who or what is 'her'?" "She is... well... I want to say a dragon, but I've never seen a dragon like this before." There was a small scraping sound as the eight ponies reached a door at the end of the corridor. Princess Luna opened the door, and on the other side sat a young looking dragon-esque creature. But unlike a dragon, this creature had hair almost like a mane, scales going up it's nose, pointed ears, and wings for arms. And like a dragon, she had fangs, claws, and a tail. Wide violet eyes stared up at the ponies. Suddenly, Peni burst out laughing. Celestia stared at her, confused. "Princess, I mean no disrespect, but this isn't any type of regular dragon! She's a rare dragon for Equestria, called a wyvren. The best way to tell is because of the wings, which closely resemble a bats, and the hair." "Wait, Peni, how did you know all that?" Spirals asked, dumbfounded. Peni replied almost smugly, "You know I'm a bookworm, and I saw a book called Dragon Species from Beyond Equestria one day." "B-But, sister, wasn't that one of... one of the books i-in OUR library?" "Yes, Luna. It was. But when Twilight received her castle, I sent many of the books from the library here to her. That book must've been one of them and I was uninformed. Thank you, though, Ms. Hearts. Now, Spirals, this little... What did you say she was, Ms. Hearts?" "A wyvren." "Thank you. This little wyvren will be your helper. Much like Twilight had Spike, you will have her." "This... THIS IS THE IMPORTANT MATTER?! You're giving me a HELPER?! Mom, I thought you needed help with something serious, not... this! Oh my Faust..." Spirals began rubbing her temples, obviously stressed. "Look, I'm not... I'm not saying I won't take her, but- Mom, you should've just said I was getting a helper in your letter. I don't have anything going on right now, but at least I would've known if I did I would be able to attend." "I'm... I'm sorry, Spirals. I hadn't thought that you'd come if I said you were getting a helper. I tried to be vague so you didn't think it was a monster trying to kill everypony or a tea party invitation." "Don't fret, dear sister. Now, Spirals." "Yes, Aunt Luna?" "Since you not only know the species but also the gender, what shall you name your new friend?" Spirals rubbed her chin, pondering names. Josie leaned over and said, "I don't know if it'll help, but I thought of Wicker." "That's a great idea, Josie! Wicker it is." Spirals put her hoof out to the young wyvren - who promptly jumped - and said, "It's okay, Wicker. I'm not going to hurt you. I want to be your new friend." "W... Wick... er. Wick-er!" "Oh, my gosh, that's the most adorable thing I've seen since I saw Junior for the first time," Peni said. "I agree," Josie said, "I really, really do."
