//------------------------------// // Chapter 2: In Its Shadow // Story: The Dark Side Of The World We Know // by HopeForTheFew //------------------------------// Within a mountain in the Everfree Forest. Something crawled its way slowly through the mountain, black smoke was left as a trail as it moved. And soon, to soon, the being found its way out and stood tall as it began to walk, slowly towards the future. Towards the destruction it would inevitable bring. I awoke and got out from my bed and prepared. I knew the reason I was brought here and I knew what was coming. And so I grabbed the Brink Of Destruction and grabbed a some water that, to be frank was surprising that it wasn't septic. I did not expect to win, but it is a hope, one that I choose to hope in. The real reason for building that house on top the hill was do to the fact that I was bored and thought I would show off some of my power to he guards, but now I wish I had used my head and saved some of my power. But I could reclaim some of it. And so I did, I took the power that bound everything together and sucked it back up into my soul. With just that little power sucked up I felt stronger, and I was. And so I headed off. But before I left I told the guards where I was going and that they needed to tell the princesses that something was coming, a storm was coming. I was glad to see that they obeyed the command and thought to myself that they were good soldiers indeed. And with that, I headed off to destruction. The being walked out of the Everfree and headed to the small town known as ponyville. The creature grew a black smile and laughed as black smoke came forth from its mouth. It had waited so long, and now its time had finally come. Destruction had finally come. I walked through the town of ponyville while getting questions of all kinds from its residence. Then Twilight came out and began to furiously beg me to go back to my hole in the ground, I just waved her off, a determined look on my face. But before I left I told her to get everypony out of town and to the city of Canterlot, including all the Elements. She questioned this but I just looked at her sternly and she nodded her head as confirmation. I was at the edge of town and gazed down at the Everfree from atop of a hill. I saw my target and without any hesitation, I charged. Though, the surprising thing of all of it was the fact that music began to play which lifted my heart and made me smile. My time had come, destruction had come. The being within the earth stared at the creature on top the hill, it was similar to himself only was not pitch black and covered in smoke. The being smiled and licked its lips and opened his arms as in the greet the unwelcomed protector, then, all of the sudden, music began to play from somewhere unknown, which confused the shadow being but did not scare him. I continued my charge, as light began to shine forth from my mace (Which was part of its power if it was used correctly with a powerful light source.) and I lifted it high in the air. I took a large leap and smashed my mace into the creatures skull, it would have killed the beast if it wearnt for the fact that it all of the sudden turned to smoke and disappear. This caused me to look around franticly and before I knew It, I was struck from behind and was sent flying face first into a tree, the blow would have knock me clean out if it weren't for the fact that I brought my hands up to defend myself from the tree. The music got louder and louder with every second that passed by and strengthend my heart. I gazed up towards the shadow as it smiled menacingly, this turned what anger I had within me into rage as I once again charged, only this time, I used the light. Princess Celestia. Luna, Twilight, Shining Armor and all the residents of ponyville starred at top the hill as the being from space and an unknown shadow did battle against each other, at first it looked like the shadow was going to win without very much of a problem but then the 'Human' turned around and raised its mace high and charged, only this time, it raised the mace higher so that the light that came from the mace could shine upon the shadow. This gave Celestia an idea. I shined the light on the shadow and it tried desperately to cover its face from the light, but it was no use as I took another leap and smashed the mace into the creature, this time it actually did something and sent the creature to the ground screaming in pain. I stood back up and was ready to throw another hit at the creature but before I was able it lifted its hand and released two black beams from its hand that sent me flying backwards once again. I looked down at my stomach and was glad to see that there were no holes within me. Without wasting anymore time at looking at my belly I gazed upwards and was scared half to death by what I saw. I had told them to leave, to get out of here but instead I find them on top the hill gazing at the battle before them. The shadow creature seemed to notice this and looked at the top of the hill as well, it released a smile and started to walk slowly up the slope to the ponies. He noticed the ponies on top the hill and started to slowly walk to the top of the hill. However before he could make it very far, the large white Alicorn started to hover high in the air and glow brightly. this confused him as he stood still but soon noticed what the Alicorn was doing. Celestia started to hover high in the air and her horn began to glow brightly. Then, all of the sudden the sun began to shine brighter and beams of light were brought down upon the shadow creature. However her light did nothing to the shadow as it covered itself in a black shield that the light could not pass through. The horrow of all of this was the fact that the shadow could still seem to navigate even with the shield in front of it. The shadow was floating now just above the ground and continued to climb the hill. Horror filled Celestia's eyes as she all she could do was hope that the creature could not attack while it was within its shield. Celestia doubted this however as the shadow creature pressed on it movements. Then, all of the sudden the Human being charged forth and slammed its mace into the black shadow shield and broke it. I slammed my mace down into the shield of the shadow creature and smashed it into a thousand pieces. However, when I struck the shield the creature spun around and struck me aside the head and sent me spinning to the side. It was angry, very angry. I struggled back to my feet and the music became even louder, so loud in fact that normally it would have hurt my ears, but not here, not this time. I stood up as tall as the creature. we starred at each other for quite some time but then the creature decided to break that stare by sending several black vines towards my chest to try and impale me. But he did not succeed as I grabbed his vines in my power grasp, the same grasp that I used to build the log cabin. The vines broke and the creature had a look of shock on its face and then anger, no not anger, absolute rage. The creature then shot forth two beams, the same beams that had struck me in the stomach previously, however I just lifted my mace to my chest horizontally and blocked the two beams easily. What the creature did next however I would not be prepared for. The creature teleported once again and I turned around to see if it had teleported behind me like before, however what greeted me was only the puff of shadow smoke and then I was hit from behind and shoved to the hard ground beneath me. The creature had teleported behind me and then teleported again to where it was behind me a second time and shoved me into the dirt. I tried to get up but in turn I was flipped over and what greeted me was flying fists to my head that sent me spinning beyond belief. I thought it was over then and there as the music began to fade and blood began to pool out onto the ground. However, it was far from the end as the music on the outside started to disappear. but new music became a reality on the inside. I felt myself slipping to the merciful grasp of unconsciousness. But I knew my mission, and I would NOT fail. With one heavy push I threw the creature off of me and I felt myself slip back into the real world and more music began to come from somewhere unknown. It grew in sound, and I grew in heart. I looked around and saw all the blood that my body had left on the ground. I looked up at the creature with pure rage in my eyes and I screamed in anger and pain. I picked up my mace as the creature stood up. I spat out blood from my mouth and raised my mace high in the air so that the creature could see the beam of light that was about to hit him. And, as I expected the creature hid behind a shadow wall and that was my chance, and I took it. I lowered my mace and ran to the shield. I raised my mace high once more and swung as hard as my body would allow me to swing. I smashed through the wall and crushed the creature beneath me. I swung time and time again, making sure that the creature was dead. However, it was not. All of the sudden the creature shot a vine forward which impaled me through the chest. I stopped mid swing as blood bean to fill my mouth. I backed away and the vine fell to the ground and disappeared into the creatures shadow. I gazed up at the creature as it began to stand up and it looked me in the eyes, and I smiled. The creature noticed this and was confused and to be frank seemed somewhat frightened, and it had a right to be. I raised my mace once more into the sky as the last rays of the sun powered the mace and magnified the light onto the creature. It screamed in pain from the unsuspected attack. And then It accord to me, if it could be hurt by light then maybe, just maybe. And so I tried it out, all the while blood continued to flow out through the hole in my chest. I aimed the mace at the creature who was now hiding behind a tree from the rays of the sun and I shot the laser through the tree. And indeed my experiment worked as the beam traveled through the tree and through the creature. The tree fell to the side to reveal a hole within the creatures chest as black ooze leaked out. I smiled as I saw the creature fall to the ground and melt away into more of the ooze. I laughed out loud as I heard hooves pound onto the ground. And then the music stopped, and so did I as I fell to the hard ground beneath me. And with that, I saw no more. But I did think one last thought. I had done my job, I had accomplished the mission. And then my mind went blank, and my body went numb as the cold grasp of death filled my body.
