//------------------------------// // Defying Death // Story: The White Leaf in the Forest // by Shadow Fantasy //------------------------------// A white light appeared. The black wolf ran from the light as if it were a bigger creature seeking to kill it. The white light went over to the corpse of the filly. "You poor, foolish thing, you should've never come out here." The white light turned into a human-like creature. It picked up the body like a baby. She moved strands of the filly's mane from the her face. The white creature walked with the body in her arms to another part in the forest. There, another bigger light that cast a red glow upon the area, casting ominous shadows, floated peacefully above the forest. "Father, this poor filly died to a black wolf at the castle.” "What do you want me to do about it?" "Please father, let her have another chance." "No." "Please, she is so young and didn't get to live long." "My answer is still no Evelyn. She died to her own foolishness therefore she must meet her fate." "Father, I will do anything you ask, just resurrect her from this horrid death." There was silence. It seemed to be infinitely long. Evelyn's father spoke at last. "You must take her through the forest as an earth pony. You can not use magic until you have successfully brought her back out of the forest. Only then you can use your magic again. You must start at the castle." "I will do it." "Now, you must know that resurrection never brings them back entirely and never always the same. She may look completely different than she does now. She will have no memory of anything. She will not be the same. I can however let her keep her name. What is it?" "I... I don't know." "The knowledge of not having a name and not remembering anything can tear a pony apart. We must, at the very least, give her one." "Dream Lily." "What is that?" "Dream Lily, that will be her name." "Dream Lily it is. I need your help Evelyn. Resurrecting the dead is not easy and I have become too old to do it on my own." "I will father." Pure magic began to orbit the filly gaining speed with every revolution. A red magic sphere formed around the filly, encasing her with the magic of the two spirits. The red sphere began to close in, forcing the white magic to get closer to the filly until finally it was absorbed. An explosion was created, making a flash that could be seen from Canterlot. When the smoke had finally cleared, a sleeping white filly was in the center of the remains of the explosion with a radius of 25 meters. Her coat was white with small patches of pale sky blue, her mane and tail was white with with faint blue streaks going down. "Quickly, she will wake soon. We don't want her to know who we are. Get to the castle. Remember your promise." "Yes father." The white forest spirit parted from the area. She went to the old castle. Her spirit form was now the form of a blue earth pony with a pink mane and tail. One eye was pink and the other was blue. The filly was waking up. "Where am I?" "Come quickly, we don't have much time." Evelyn grabbed the filly's hoof and began to run. "We’ve got to hurry before the black wolves come back." Evelyn sprinted out of the eroded castle with the filly quickly following behind. She turned around and saw the red eyes of the black wolf. Her pace quickened as they ran across a path. "Never look at their eyes, it will only make them more determined. Not just one, but every single one of them that exists will want to kill you ever y time you look at their eyes." A wolf jumped out of the bushes. Evelyn skidded across the ground right under it. The little filly froze up at the beast's presence. The black wolf was about to jump, "HEY!" A rock hit the wolf's head. Growling, the wolf turned around. A few more appeared from the ground and some even formed from the shadows. "Run Dream Lily! RUN!" Dream Lily obeyed. It started out from a fast walk, looking back at her savior, to a fast run, dodging anything in front of her. What were shadows would collect together, forming a creature purely made of darkness. Black wolves chased her. They got faster and faster. Dream Lily’s speed began to slow. Her legs ached and her lungs burned. Wind was picking up, slowing her down as well as making it hard to see. Dream Lily's faded golden eyes began to burn from the dust the wind picked up. She was about to give up until she saw light. The light must be the exit of this dark place. Dream Lily pushed herself as hard as she could but her legs were becoming too weak to continue. The wolves were howling and growling. She was so close, but so were the wolves. Dream Lily couldn't go on. 'No I must get there, I am so close I am not giving up now! I must go faster!' Dream Lily's thoughts were screaming at her to go faster. Something opened up. Lily began to go faster. If you would look closely, you would see a faint streak of white light behind the filly as she ran. All of her aching began to disappear. She was getting closer to the light, a second later she was blinded by it. She tumbled out of the forest. Wolves were howling and barking at her, but wouldn't get any farther than the forest boundaries. All the previous pain came back and twice as worse. Dream Lily passed out on the ground. She saw a village. Three figures were running towards her, but her vision blurred too much to make out what they looked like. She fell unconscious on the grass.
