//------------------------------// // Failing the Exam (Edited by Gadgetphile) // Story: Twilight Fails Her Physics Exam // by goodponistories //------------------------------// It was a Sunday evening like no other for Twilight Sparkle. The air felt tight in her chambers and the lamp cast an almost dreary light on her forehead. Twilight was waiting for her annual test of the week. The test arrived at precisely 9:30 pm on Sunday evening and was to be completed by 11:00. There were 2 minutes left before the letter would arrive through her magic mail system, though she knew she was ready, she still felt a nervous felling in her gut. The subject this week was physics, the laws of what held everything together in a world of magic. Twilight was fairly good at physics and studied the laws frequently, however statistically it was not her best subject. She still knew she had absolutely no reason to feel afraid, yet she felt afraid. The clock kept ticking, time moved forward, and soon the quiz would arrive. Tik...Tok...Tik...Tok...Tik...Tok...Tik...Tok. The sound caused the already unsettling weight on twilight's mind to worsen. The suspense truly felt unbearable, but then there was a sound of magic, and the test had arrived. Twilight sighed, grabbed the golden envelope, and slowly opened it. She pulled the test paper out carefully and set it on her desk. Slowly preparing a pen that she loved to use for her tests, because of the stability, and quality of its writing. Twilight gave herself words of encouragement,"You've got this girl! No test is too difficult for you!" She smiled before looking at the contents of the test. Once she saw what was being asked the smile became a frown. She knew none of this, it was taunting, and looked to her like a bunch of scribbles. For once she was totally and utterly baffled. "What does this equation mean? How does mass effect magic? Who is Lokinstein? What is the effect of gravity on the acceleration of Pegasi?" She had more questions then answers. The next hour and 20 minutes was filled with groans, sighs, and huffs from Twilight. She spent most of her time guessing on questions she didn't know, and for the first time in her life was not confident she would pass. She slowly packed up her finished sheets and sent them to Princess Celestia, so she could find out how she did. Nearly minutes later she received the envelope back. She opened slowly hoping that she got anything that would be a passing grade. She slid the sheet out and then saw the red markings on the top. Her mind and heart stopped, she let out a cry of anguish. For the first time in her life she failed a test. The grade on the paper was a 34. Celestia's comment was,"Work harder next time. I expected more from you." Twilight cried an outburst of tears. She had failed, her mentor was mad at her, and she was ashamed at herself. She slowly cried herself to sleep. ____________________________________________________________________________ The next day, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie, and Apple Jack noticed something different about Twilight. She didn't talk to any of them while she was in the market, and cried when they asked what was wrong. So, all 5 of the mares got together to give Twilight a visit. Later that evening they all knocked on the door hoping to see Twilight feeling better. Twilight opened the door, looked at them with distraught eyes, and said,"Leave me alone please." She shot the door on her friends which only upset them more. They needed to know what was wrong with Twilight. Rainbow Dash flew at the door with all her might, she extended her hoof, and kicked the door down. Rainbow flew to confront Twilight in her library, "We are not leaving until you tell us what's wrong with you." The others joined her and looked at Twilight with concern. Twilight couldn't keep her composure as she told them her story. "I failed, so I feel like an idiot, and I am supposed to be smart not dumb. What is wrong with me?" Rarity came over to her and started to pet her mane in a comforting way. This was a difficult thing for all of them to approach with Twilight, she was all about showing her worth, and she suffered from her pride. It's not easy to tell your friend that something that matters to her so much, does not matter. So, the mares whispered between each other and developed their thoughts on what to say as Twilight cried on the floor. Rarity said, "Darling, we all have to make mistakes sometimes." She came over to Twilight and lifted her off of the ground. hugging her in a careful but loving embrace. "Yeah, Twi I have failed loads of times but I kept going." Rainbow Dash proclaimed. She flew over to join in the hug Rarity started. "Sometimes I make mistakes with my animals" Fluttershy said in her calm and caring voice before joining the hug. "Not all my parties have been a success, but I still smile." Pinkie yelled before joining in the four mare hug. "Twi, Its not about how ya fail, but about what you learn from your mistakes. I 'ave failed many times and I always learn something from the failure. If this bothers you so much then write to Celestia and tell her how you feel." She walked over and finished the group hug that brought them all together at this moment. Twilight had stopped her crying by now and was now smiling softly. It felt so good to know her friends thoughts, and to have the felling of their love as they hugged. "You are right, I need to not be so ashamed of mistakes and accept them. I am not perfect as my ego has lead me to believe. I need to learn more from not only my rights but my wrongs. Thank you girls for showing that to me." They hugged Twilight tighter with her words egging them on. "Umm, girls, you're kind of suffocating me." They all giggled and loosened their holds. ______________________________________________________ Dear Princess Celestia, I have talked with my friends about the failing of my test and came to a conclusion. One, I need to accept my failures, and learn from my mistakes. Two, that test was way too difficult for me to complete. Celestia, you have always been my mentor, and I know you have high hopes for me. That test was just too hard for me to do, as I tried my best, and even studied nights before. Please, make the tests a bit easier for me. I love you, and have always tried to be a great student, and I hope you think the contents of the letter are agreeable. Your Faithful Student, Twilight Sparkle Celestia read the contents of the letter and smiled, "Twilight, you will always make me proud. Never forget that" She slowly wrote back to her faithful student.
