Parting Ways

Chapter 3
Parting Ways

Twilight had returned to Ponyville the next day after making sure that Cadence was alright, she was feeling better about things… until she got back home. She was met with Spike packing bags. “What are you doing, Spike?” Twilight asked in confusion.
“What does it look like?” Spike replied, the anger apparent in his voice.
“Is this because of the whole Sunset thing again?” Twilight asked certain that she knew the answer.
“I can handle the whole Discord thing and even that owl. But you cross the line when you put Rarity and your own sister in danger for a girl you hardly know,” Spike said trying while trying to close one of his suitcases.
“So you heard about that, huh?” Twilight said looking away with a look of sadness painted on her face.
“Oh I heard about it alright... I don’t know what’s gotten into you Twilight but you haven’t been the same since Sunset kissed you,” Spike stated while dragging his suitcase past Twilight.
“I don’t see why I have to defend myself here, Spike. We’ve known eachother since you were born, I raised you for Celestia’s sake!” Twilight said back without turning to look at Spike.
“Obviously I didn’t know you as well as I thought,” Spike replied and opened the door of the library.
“What is your problem, Spike, Is my happiness not important to you?” Twilight asked turning to look at Spike finally.
“It is, just not when you put everyone else in danger to achieve it. Cadence was thrown full force into a brick wall and Rarity was lucky enough to just get a really bad headache from the ordeal.” Spike replied with anger growing in his voice.
“I didn’t think…” Twilight started trying to defend herself.
“Yeah you didn’t, think of it, the great Twilight Sparkle made a ‘mistake’, how does that make you feel?” Spike asked in a condescending tone.
“Stop it Spike,” Twilight replied the anger growing in her voice now.
“No, you never do, no matter what the great Twilight Sparkle has to finish what she started no matter who she hurts along the way,” Spike yelled his anger growing to breaking point.
“Get out,” Twilight said through gritted teeth.
“What was that, something about Sunset not being worth it,” Spike replied with a laugh. That’s when Twilight snapped.
“GET OUT!” Twilight screamed and cast a spell that threw Spike out the door and made him skid along the ground. Twilight then used her magic to chuck his suitcase out after him. “I don’t care where you go, just so long as you never come back here ever again!” She yelled at him and slammed the door shut. Twilight then rested her back against the door and slid down it, Twilight started to cry uncontrollably. “Why does this have to happen, I just want to be with Sunset, so why does Spike hate me for it?” Twilight said aloud to no one in particular.
“It’s because he doesn’t understand it,” A voice said from all around her.
“What do you want, Discord!” Twilight yelled out of frustration. Discord then materialized next to her with a hurt look on his face.
“I simply came here to comfort you, I heard what happened with Cadence and Rarity and also had the misfortune of witnessing your bout with Spike.” Discord stated with a hint of sadness in his voice.
“Uh-huh, now what’s your real reason for being here?” Twilight asked not entirely convinced of Discords intent.
“I am hurt Twilight Sparkle, truly hurt. I truly want to make this whole friendship thing work,” Discord said trying to convince Twilight.
“Fluttershy put you up to this didn’t she?” Twilight asked knowing full well the answer.
“No she did not, I genuinely wanted to be here,” Discord replied and Twilight gave him a look that told him that she didn’t believe him. “Alright fine, she did but was I doing well?” He asked hopeful that he did.
“It needs work, Discord,” Twilight said brightening up a bit.
“Well at least your not crying now, I did something right,” Discord replied with a laugh.
“Yeah, I guess you did,” Twilight said returning the laugh.
“So, tell me about Sunset, I’ve heard Fluttershy talk about her… But she’s never actually met her, I want to hear it from you,” Discord said genuinely interested.
“You really want to hear about her?” Twilight asked suspiciously.
“Isn’t this what you girls talk about, I can be ‘one of the girls,’” Discord said and snapped his fingers. A wig appeared on his head that resembled Rarity’s hair except a lot more messy and then some pyjamas appeared on him. “See, now we can have one of those ‘slumber parties’ that I’ve heard so much about,” He added and did a twirl in his new pyjamas.
“Are those Fluttershy’s?” Twilight asked trying not to burst out laughing.
“Yes, but don’t tell her,” Discord whispered it trying to make it seem like a deep dark secret.
“My lips are sealed,” Twilight replied laughing now.
“See, I must have this friendship thing down now,” Discord stated with glee and snapped his fingers. Confetti flew out of Twilights books and a banner came down from the ceiling which reads Discord= best pony!
“You are ridiculous, Discord,” Twilight says wiping away the tears from laughing so much.
“So now do I get to hear about the girl who stole princess Twilight’s heart?” Discord asked and suddenly a bowl of popcorn kernels appeared in Discords hands.
“Alright, alright,” Twilight replied giving in to Discords ridiculousness. She took a seat across from Discord and looked up at the ceiling. “Although I hated her at first, she was just misunderstood. I wanted to help her even when I went up against her for the crown. I don’t know when it happened, but I found that I fell in love with her. When she kissed me it just felt right, do you know what I mean?” Twilight asked looking over at Discord.
“Of course I do, I have someone like that,” Discord said pridefully.
“Don’t tell me it’s Fluttershy?” Twilight asked hoping it wasn’t her.
“No, of course not… It’s Celestia, I mean have you seen her mane, mmmm,” Discord said and ate one of the popcorn kernels. “I even have a strand of her hair that I keep in my house!” He exclaimed clapping his hands together and ate another kernel.
“That’s… Creepy,” Twilight stated simply.
“But enough about my love interests, let’s hear more about yours,” Discord said and a small flag with Sunlight written on it appeared in his hand.
“Well, what more is there to say apart from her hair is amazing, it’s the perfect blend of red and yellow that flows beautifully, and those curves…” Twilight said then blushed as she remembered who she was talking to. “Wow, I can’t believe I just said that,” She added hiding her face in her hooves.
“Oh come on, do you really think that’s the worst I’ve heard. Wait until you hear what Fluttershy says about Pinkie Pie,” Discord says and then physically shivers at the thought of it. “She’s rather descriptive when she wants to be… I blame Ironwill for that,” He added.
“Don’t worry, you're not the only one that hated him,” Twilight replied.
“So, do I get to stay for the night?” Discord asked hopefully.
“Fine, but if you start snoring you are out of here,” Twilight said firmly.
“Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye,” Discord said and poked himself in the eye.
“Awesome,” Twilight replied.
“But I know what this is missing… Marshmallows!” Discord exclaimed and a rotisserie over a fire appeared on the floor. Twilight tries to tell off Discord but is too late, the floor catches fire from the flame.
“DISCORD!” Twilight yelled in frustration.
“Oops?” Discord says shrugging his shoulders.

Spike walked to the border between Ponyville and the Everfree Forest. They don’t need me anymore. None of them want me around anymore, what that door showed me in the crystal empire was true… I was always destined to end up alone, Spike thought to himself. “Goodbye Ponyville, this is the last time that we’re ever going to see each other. Goodbye Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie, Applejack and Rainbow. I’ll miss you all, but I can’t stay here anymore. Not with her, and I don’t want to be around for the next situation she gets you guys into. So goodbye… I’m out,” Spike said finishing his monologue.
“Spiky!” Rarity yelled after him. “Wait!” She added trying to catch up to him. “Where are you going?” she asked with concern in her voice.
“Anywhere but here,” Spike replied simply.
“You're coming with me and we’re going to talk to Twilight,” Rarity said trying to reason with Spike.
“No I’m done trying to talk to her, I’m sorry Rarity but I’m not sticking around to see what she does next!” Spike yelled rather harshly.
“Spike, please don’t go. We need you,” Rarity said holding out a hoof towards Spike. He simply swatted it away which made Rarity back up in shock.
“Like you need me, I was always the mascot wasn’t I. Nothing more,” Spike replied and turned away. “Don’t try and find me, Rarity. Just pretend like I never existed… It’ll be better for all of us,” he added as he made his way into the Everfree Forest.
“Spike!” Rarity yelled after him, the tears growing in her eyes.
I’m never looking back, the old Spike is dead now, the new Spikes journey begins...
