Dawn, The Dinosaur Family's Cave...
When the Teratophoneus family awoke, they realized something. They were in a cave, it was freezing. and they could comprehend what was around them. They got up, one after the other.
"<Where...where on earth are we?>" The Alpha said to his family, who only seemed further confused "<What's going on? Why are you looking at me like...>"
He then noticed what his family did. Rather than grunting or roaring, he was forming words, and he understood them. They then began to panic as it sunk in, as they didn't know what to think about their new knowledge, and at the fact that they could think at all. With there newfound sapience, they could do more than any previous dinosaur could, and so decided to also name themselves for simplicity's sake. The eldest son, Hiro, soon noticed a mammalian stench in the air, and he reeled back from the awful smell.
"<Ugh, bats! Bats live in this cave!>", he said to his father, Fuso, although they could all hear him. They were terrified of bats
"<We'd best get moving before they get back.>" but his mate wasn't having it.
"<Out there? In the cold? Think of the children; they're not strong enough.>" Kongo said, worrying.
"<You're right,>" he said, looking out of the cave."< It is too early for us to get going. We'll wait until the sun gets high enough, though the bats are still...>"
The youngest male, Scout spoke up, "<Shhh!!! Something's coming!>"
They started hearing hoof-steps. They had never heard hooves this small-sounding before, so they didn't know who or what they belonged to. Something small, clearly, but perhaps something dangerous. They retreated deeper into the cave, ignoring the smell, feeling that the danger was far worse. The father stayed at the back of the retreating group. Then they heard the squeaking.
The youngest female, Mogami, spoke up, "<Does... Anyone else hear that?>"
They did not panic, as they did not want to risk the potential predator finding them, until the oldest female looked up. She saw an entire colony of bats on the ceiling.
"<umm....guys?>" Bright Eyes said. Everyone looked at her and she pointed up with her claw.
"<Well that's just->" Fuso was cut off by the sound of his youngest son's panicked roar filling the cave.
"<Everyone run! Run for your life!>" unfortunately, that woke the bats, who began to swarm, searching for the exit. The dinosaurs, also trying to flee, ran with them... right into the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
Dawn, about 300 meters away from the cave...
"Sweetie Belle, what in Celestia's name are you doing out here?" she said to herself, coming out just before dawn to see the sleeping... creatures; she found the young ones quite cute when they slept.
An orange blur jumped onto her, and she held her hooves up to shield her face.
"Please! Please, don't kill me! I’m still young!"
"Shut up, Sweetie Belle. I'm not going to kill you. Though I sure as hell feel like it!" an angered scootaloo said. "What are you doing out here?!"
"Well, I, um..."
"Hurry up, Scootaloo, we're running out of time!" Nyx came out of the bushes with Apple Bloom.
"New question, what are you all doing here?!" sweetie bell, said alarmed at the sight of her friends.
"well, we're here to find ya'." Apple Bloom said.
Then they heard a loud roar from within the cave, the swarm of bats flying out , and the creatures, running out with them. All they could see, however, were six pairs of legs coming right at them.
The foals and the dinosaurs looked each other in the eyes, and the CMC screamed first. The dinosaurs were yelling too, but to the ponies, it came out as a roar. Both parties ran off into the vegetation, hoping to hide from the other. The dinosaurs were easily lost in the forest because of their camouflage. The ponies... not so much. Their multi-colored fur did the opposite of hide them. Mogami came out slowly to see them.
"<Hey! What are you doing?!>" Fuso yelled at her, "<get back here now!>"
"<It's okay. Trust me.>" she replied.
She walked over, much to the dismay of her family, and attempted to speak to them.
Little known fact about pegasi: their wings aren't simply magical; they are slightly avian in origin, just like gryphons, and so the resident pegasus was able to understand the dinosaurs slightly. Not that she knew that, of course.
"<Hello? Are you alright? We didn't mean to scare you like that.>" mogami said.
Scootaloo couldn't believe her ears, there was a creature of unknown origin trying to comfort her, and she could actually understand it! she turned around to reply.
"<Yes... We are fine... it's just that somepony decided to pay you a visit to see how you were.>"
"<Oh, well, it's quite alright. It was my brother who started off the bat swarm, making us flee. Wow, it's freezing out here! You know anyplace we can go to get warm?>" she asked
"<Actually, I do, but nopony knows that you all exist yet, so it might be hard to explain it without her seeing you all.>" Scootaloo said.
"<I will talk with my father about it. I'll come and find you once he decides, most likely at night though.>"
"<Alright, we'll be leaving then.>" scootaloo said.
And with that, the pony and dinosaur turned their separate ways. Scootaloo turned around and noticed her friends gaping at her.
"What?" She asked.
"Oh, nothing." Sweetie Belle said, "Except for the fact that YOU JUST STARTED ROARING AND GROWLING FOR NO REASON!!!"
"Hey, calm down there, Sweetie." nyx said. "What happened just now?"
"Well, it said that it needed a place to stay. I was going to bring Fluttershy out here to let her see them, but I don't know what she will do afterward." Scootaloo said.
"well, why don' they go back to their cave then?" Apple Bloom asked.
"I think it has something to do with the bats, I'm not sure. It told me why the bat swarm happened, but not why they ran out screaming.." Scootaloo replied.
"Right then, off to Fluttershy's then!" Nyx said, and they went off to town before anyone got up to find Fluttershy
"<Well? What happened out there?>" Fuso asked.
"<Well, they said that they might give us a warm place for the winter. Though the condition is that another creature needs to come out here and see us.>" she said.
"<No! Not happening! They might want to do something to us! Kill us, take you, something like that!" he said.
Kongo responded desperately, "<But, the we all need a warm place to stay for as long as this cold lasts! We will die if we stay out here!>"
Everyone in the family began to argue, and in the end the father said, "<Alright, stop! Let me think about it for a while, alright?>"
The family all agreed and let him think, then he got up and said, "<I've made a decision. It can come out here and observe us, but it mustn't bring anything with it.>"
Night, Ponyville....
Mogami weaved between the buildings, doing her best not to be seen or heard. She sniffed the air to find who she was looking for, and found her next to a building in a box.
"<Hey, you awake?>" she said to Scootaloo.
"<Yeah, I'm awake.>" she replied.
"<Good, I've got great news! my father says it's alright! Under one condition, though.>"
"<What would that be?>"
"<It cannot bring anything with it, ok?>"
"<Okay then! I'll bring her sometime tomorrow.>"
And with that, the dinosaur ran off into the night to return to her family.
Mid-morning, near a new cave....
Mogami led Scootaloo, who in turn, led Fluttershy to where the new cave was. They didn't want to return to the old one, due to the bats. When fluttershy arrived, Hiro was still asleep while Scout and Bright-eyes were play-fighting with each other. Mogami found a bone to gnaw on to pretend she had been there the whole time.
When saw the creatures, the only thing she could say was, "oh, my." She caught their attention immediately.
Bright-eyes and Scout quit playing mid-bite. Hiro sprung up into a prowling position, assessing the threat. He then got up slowly, growling all the while, showing off his numerous sharp, venomous teeth. he went to lunge, but his youngest sister stopped him before he could get a bite in.
"<No! She's here to come and see us, just how father said she could!>" she said to him as he was getting up.
"<But she violated the deal! Father said she couldn't bring anybody with her!>" he said snarling.
"<Anything, not anyone. How about that, hmm?>" she responded
Scout spoke up, "<You just got owned!>"
he turned around, growling, "<Oh, shut up, scout!>"
"<Whatever you say, boss.>"
"<Alright... Still mad about that loophole, and I'm fairly certain that she can understand us right now because of that expression she has>."
Then speaking to Fluttershy. "<You stay one day. My father might say different, but I've got my eyes on you, understand?>" she shook her head in acknowledgment. "<good. now I'm going back to sleep...>" and with that, he went to find a rock in the sun to sleep on.
"<Don't mind my brother, he's always that way around something new.>" she said to Fluttershy, "<Guess it's my father's raising.>" she went back to gnaw on the bone she found, and Fluttershy went to see their behavior. She had made plans to stay away for they day. Not much later, they heard a sound unfamiliar to them, but Fluttershy knew that sound all too well.
The sound of a timberwolf.
Fluttershy went to hide behind mogami, but she did not understand what was going on. To scare off whatever creature was out there, Hiro roared out into the forest, but only got more wolf cries in return.
"<Hmm.... I have plan. Everyone, in the cave. Scout, you stay with me. We will defend this cave, and only if we are certain we are beat, we call the parents. Understood?>"
"<Let's waste them!>" Scout said confidently.
"<Now that's what I like to see!>" after saying that, they prepared to defend their cave.
Out from the forest came about seven timberwolves, both snarling at the other group. seeing that neither side was backing down, they waited to see who would attack first. With their new insight, Hiro began to think of a plan. But that was soon rendered useless due to his impatient brother charging straight at them.
"<Scout! oh, Jenkins... Forget the plan, attack!>"
The timberwolves charged too, but they were meet with equal resistance. Scout rammed the first timberwolf and made it fall into a pile of wood. He bit the one closest to him, shaking it apart. To his surprise, another jumped on his back, biting his neck while trying not to get thrown off.
"<Argh! Help!>" he called out to his brother.
"<Don't worry, I've got you!>" he then rammed the timberwolf off of his brother.
"<Hey, thanks! Behind you!>" he said to his brother, who spun around and smashed his enemy's face with his tail. The timberwolf recoiled and growled at the two brothers. It then raised its head and howled for backup. Once reinforcements had arrived, the original seven timberwolves who had been there were now defeated, but not dead. They reformed and joined the additional timberwolves attacking them. The children were now facing a full twenty timberwolves.
"<Ok, this does not look good here, um...>" Scout said to Hiro, "<Fall back?>"
"<Fall back.>" and with that they ran back towards the cave. Seeing they had no chance of winning, with or without their sisters, they called for their parents. They continued to fall back into the cave as the timberwolves advanced. Then the ground shook, the wolves felt it as well, and began to look around to see what was coming. They saw a large reptilian tail swing between the trees and, out from the trees, walked Fuso. He took two steps and, upon seeing the situation, let out a roar that could be heard all the way in Canterlot.
