//------------------------------// // ... a Phoenix // Story: Blood of... // by DiscordFan //------------------------------// A light orange girl with curled red and yellow hair and vivid aqua eyes and wearing a light aqua tank with a translucent bottom, simple jeans, black and brown boots, and a simple, leather jacket walked down to her apartment. Her name was Sunset Shimmer. She pulled out a key ring from her pocket and flipped through them until she found the one she was looking for. Smiling with satisfaction, she put the key in the apartment door's lock and turned the it. With a push on the door, she pulled the key out of the lock and walked into the white room with hard-wood floors. There was a television and cream love seat/small sofa. A shaggy, pale orange carpet was beneath a wooden coffee table, which was in front of the sofa. There was a kitchenette with a mini fridge and countertop with a few appliances. One more doors was seen on the wall, indicating a bedroom. Still smiling, Sunset Shimmer walked towards the bedroom door and opened it. Inside was a twin bed covered with an orange blanket and yellow sheets. Off the side was a door that led to an on suite. She slugged the backpack she was carrying onto the bed and flopped herself onto it. She closed her eyes and let out a sigh. Sunset had just been on the roof when something extrodinary happened. She smiled in bliss as she recalled the events. The appearance of the wrong reflection. She giggled when she remembered she threw her jacket into the wind, only to fall onto the roof of the apartment building. She opened her eyes as she recalled the sun shining on her, the magic surrounding her. The wings of fire and light. She sat up and frowned. Fire and light. Fire and light. Fire and light... Why did that seem familiar? That's when it clicked. Philomena. Princess Celestia's pet phoenix. She smiled but the frowned again. Why would phoenix wings appear in the human world? She looked at her backpack in thought. Maybe... She unzipped the backpack and rummaged her hand through it, searching for it. Sunset Shimmer yanked out a brown book with her cutie mark. She flipped to a new page, grabbed a pen, and began writing. She stopped before her pen struck the page. She realized the solution. After all, the Princess had discussed it with her before. It was what made each pony different. What gave them their color, their power. Their cutie marks. She quickly recalled the discussion. "So we all have some sort of monster's blood?" The little filly Sunset Shimmer gazed with curiosity at Princess Celestia. They were having a lesson. "Well," Celestia said, tapping her chin, "not necessarily a monster. Just a magical creature or object." The white alicorns trotted over to a balcony and pointed at the sky. "Example, I have the blood of the Sun itself. It's what allows me control of it." Sunset Shimmer's eyes widened. "Blood?" Celestia nodded. "Everypony has some magic blood." She fixed her gaze on Sunset. "You have magic blood. Very powerful magic blood, really." Sunset stared at the ceiling. Magic blood. Phoenix wings. Powerful magic. It all clicked. "I have the Blood of a Phoenix," she whispered.
